Several Jobs That Will Be Automated By Artificial Intelligence(AI) And Robots
Translator
Image recognition software and voice recognition software are bringing some major advances to language translation. Applications like Google’s Word Lens can translate words from signs and documents in real time and there are a lot of translation apps that allow you to type in a word or phrase and will translate it for you.
Some will even speak the phrase for you and raw word-to-word translation will be fully automated soon.
Fast food workers
Automated ordering booths have already made their way into a few McDonald’s restaurants around the world, and cooking positions could be removed next. The booths probably can’t handle customer service problems well, so televideo systems could bring in an office employee to deal with complaints.
Field technician
New advances in the Internet of Things could make this work abandoned.
Low-cost sensors combined with high availability cellular/satellite communications and cloud technology are being started to automate and alarm these sites, and can be checked and maintained from a desktop or mobile device.
Sales representative
But, e-commerce is changing how we make purchasing decisions, especially those where there isn’t much differentiation (区分度) among the major competitors.
If you’re selling a high-differentiation product or a high-price, low-volume(体积) product, you have some job security, but if you’re selling a high-volume, low-differentiation product, you better start polishing your resume, said Doug Camplejohn, CEO of Fliptop. “These kind of product sales are all moving online. ”

In a survey of 1,400 educators, most of them believe that classrooms of the future will be centered on personalized learning. This student-centered way will allow children to choose their own pace (节奏) and learning goals based on personal interests, all of which can be guided by artificial intelligence (AI), chatting robots (chatbots) and video-based learning.
AI in education specially focuses on telling what a student does or doesn’t know, and then develops personalized courses for each student. Chatbots are also quickly becoming a key tool in the next generation education. Designed to simplify the exchange of ideas and information between students and computers, chatbots provide a lot of benefits. Although video-based learning may not necessarily be considered as creative as AI or chatbots, 98% of the educators view it as an important part of personalized learning experiences. Some schools report bringing video teaching into their courses in some way, but even higher demand for video-based learning may come from students in the near future.
The new classroom learning style is completely different from the traditional learning style and is considered to be a great change in how students get information. However, research has shown that children will keep getting information from books besides screens. Obviously, low-tech schools are more likely to believe that human interaction is important when it comes to keeping children interested and excited to learn.
Although we may not be in the age of online teachers, the benefits of technology as a teaching aid are true. However, what’s more important is that these aids are helping keep students rather than technology at the heart of education.

The growth of technology for educational use has changed the way in which people learn and receive education. This is particularly true for languages, an area in which the explosion of mobile apps and interactive software has provided choices to a range of people who were previously unable to receive foreign language education.
Von Ahn says that when he founded DuoLingo he decided to find a way for people to learn a language for free. Free use of languages was something he had a personal interest in addressing: he grew up in Guatemala, where he was surrounded by people all trying to learn English, half of whom were failing to do so and a lot of whom could not afford it.
One of the big changes caused by tech is the change in language learners. Languages have long been connected with the rich people, but now people from less rich backgrounds are finding affordable ways to learn.
Von Ahn says an unexpected result of DuoLingo being an app is that it’s attracting an unlikely type of user. DuoLingo was designed (设计) to be like a game, and what the company has found is that many users aren’t even necessarily diehard language fans, they’re just looking for an educational way to kill some time.
“They’re still procrastinating from something else, but at least it’s somewhat useful.” says Von Ahn, “The truth of the matter is that learning a language takes months or years. We have to find a way to keep them interested and that’s where the gamification came in.”
1. What can we say about DuoLingo after its launch?A.It is used by entire US schools. | B.It costs 30 dollars to download. |

The 20 warmest years on record have been in the past 22 years, according to the World Meteorological Organization(WMO). If this situation continues, temperatures may rise by 3℃-5℃ by 2100.
Scientists say we should try and stop this and not allow the average global temperature to rise by more than 1.5℃. Even a 2℃ rise will be bad for us all. Now, half a degree doesn’t sound like much, but it could make a big difference to the planet. A 2℃ rise will mean that all the coral reefs(珊瑚礁) will disappear, but a 1.5℃ rise means that there will still be some. Also, 18 percent of the insects on Earth will disappear if the temperature goes up by 2℃, compared to 6 percent disappearing at a 1.5℃ rise. Thirty-seven percent of people will be affected by dangerous heatwaves at a 2℃ rise. That’s twice the number compared to at a 1.5℃ rise.
So, what can we do? Scientists say that carbon(碳) will have to be taken out of the air by machines and stored underground and that these devices already exist. They also say that billions of trees will have to be planted. People should buy less meat. Of all the foods we eat, beef has the biggest effect on climate change because it produces a high amount of greenhouse gases to raise cows. Also, someone suggested not buying new clothes too often, because the fashion industry is a major source of the greenhouse gases that are overheating the planet. And, of course, use transport that doesn’t bur fossil fuels(化石燃料), like electric cars. It’s also better to walk or ride a bike.

Grand Canal
Considered to be the main street of Venice, the 2-mile-long Grand Canal is one of the city’s most popular and highly photographed attractions. If you’re hoping to hire a gondolier (贡多拉船夫) for a romantic (but expensive) row along the canal, plan to pay between 80 and 120 euros for the ride. Many others suggested hopping aboard the vaporetto (水上巴士), or the public water taxi, for a much cheaper experience. Vaporetto Line I travels down the Grand Canal. Travel experts strongly recommend purchasing a Venezia Unica City Pass if you don’t plan on walking the entirety of your trip due to the high cost of one-way fare.
Rialto Bridge
Several centuries ago, the Rialto Bridge was the only way to cross the Grand Canal. There are now four major bridges that cross the canal, but the Rialto Bridge is by far the most famous. The bridge is a design work of Antonio da Ponte. Predicted to fail by critics, the bridge still stands and is considered an engineering wonder.
Campanile di San Marco
This particular bell tower was built in the early 20th century, as a reproduction of the 16th-century one, which was used by Galileo Galilei to set his telescope. It also served as a stage for tight rope walkers during the Flight of the Angel celebration. Today’s bell tower, with a 324-foot height, is used for sightseers who want to have a full view of Venice. To avoid crowds, travelers say it’s best to go early in the morning or late in the evening.
St. Mark’s Square
St. Mark’s Square, or Piazza San Marco, is considered to be the heart of Venice. As the largest square in Venice, St. Mark’s Square is the only “piazza” in the city. It’s strongly recommended that visitors visit the square either early in the morning or late in the evening simply because of the crowds. The restaurants and shops in the square are very expensive. It’s recommended that visitors walk a few streets away from the square to find more reasonably priced meals and souvenirs.

Netizens have embraced the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) personality test, using its distinctive combinations of letters to define and classify themselves and others, sparking the formation of active online communities. Initially designed as a self-assessment tool to outline personality types and preferences, the MBTI has found enormous popularity in China.
The MBTI categorizes individuals using four pairs of characteristics: introversion (I) (内向) or extroversion (E) (外向), sensing (S) or intuition (N), thinking (T) or feeling (F), and judging (J) or perceiving (P). This leads to distinct four-letter combinations, like “ISTJ” or “INFP.” The values “E” and “I” have especially attracted public interest. Those who exhibit extroversion (E) characteristics are now humorously described as outgoing, talkative, wild, and socially skilled. They are often playfully called “social gangsters” due to their strong social skills. In contrast, those with introversion (I) are shown as quiet, reserved, reflective, and socially anxious.
Among the playful teasing, these eight seemingly simple letters have promoted deeper self-awareness and even developed a sense of friendship on social media platforms. Individuals discover their strengths and humorously acknowledge their odd behavior. This newfound self-awareness not only aids in understanding their fundamental values but also offers a way to deal with the common unease that bothers today’s youth. Many find comfort in thinking, “My ongoing anxiety, over-sensitivity, and self-doubt come from being an INFP. Such characteristics are typical for this personality type; thus, I’m perfectly normal.”
Netizens often humorously note: “In everyday life, during social events, I switch between introversion and extroversion. At work, I initially act extroverted but gradually become more introverted. When I see someone I like, I’m extroverted in my head but in reality, I’m all introverted. Haidilao Hotpot restaurants, known for their fancy birthday celebrations, sometimes make customers feel awkward. Their typical birthday song goes, “Say goodbye to all worries, and embrace all joys.” It’s a show meant for the extra-social. So, if an extrovert is invited to such a celebration, they might humorously exclaim, “I can’t take it! I’ve become introverted in the face of even more extroverted individuals.”

The groundbreaking(开创性的)study suggests that staring at a phone screen may distract(使分心)dinners from how much food they are actually eating. "It may prevent the correct understanding of the brain over the amount of food ingested(摄取)," said researchers who filmed 62 volunteers eating alone.
The men and women, aged 18 to 28, were invited to help themselves to a choice of food—ranging from healthy options to soft drinks and chocolate—until they were satisfied. In three trials, the volunteers were recorded eating no distractions, using a smart phone or reading a magazine.
On average the volunteers ate 535 calories without the distraction of a smart phone but 591 when using a mobile. Those in the sample who were classed as overweight ate 616 calories while using their phones. When using their mobiles, the volunteers also consumed 10 percent more. They also eat more when reading a magazine.
"Smart phone use during a meal increased calorie and fat intake," said Marcia Gilberto, a lead author of study carried out at the federal University of Lavras in Brazil and University Medical Center Utrecht in the Netherlands. He added: "Tablets and smart phones have become the main "distracters" during meals, even early in childhood, so it is important to pay attention to how this may impact food choices."

Some people experience significant increases in their depression symptoms at night. Nighttime depression can also create or worsen insomnia, by keeping you awake longer or making it more difficult to fall asleep.
There are a number of causes that can contribute to increased depression at night. One commonly suggested reason for the increase is the lack of distractions (干扰). During the day, it’s a little easier for some people—especially those with mild or moderate depression—to keep themselves busy. Work, school, or social activities act as a distraction during the day. But at night, when you settle down to sleep, there’s nothing but you and your thoughts.
Researchers have looked into other things that could be increasing our nighttime depression symptoms. According to 2013 research on animals, bright lights (especially blue and white) at night can not only keep us awake, but may also increase symptoms of depression. In the study, even having a TV on in a dark room increased the animal’s cortisol levels and created changes in their hippocampus (海马体), both of which can increase depressive symptoms.
It’s also thought that if your circadian rhythm (生理节律) is disrupted, your depression may be triggered or your symptoms could increase in severity. One 2009 study found that increased artificial light can significantly disrupt our circadian rhythm, causing or increasing mood disorders like depression.
Fortunately, there are a number of ways you can cope with depression that occurs or increases in severity at night. For depression symptoms, regardless of the time of day they show up, you should maintain the treatment plan prescribed by your doctor.

So, if I say I am beside myself with joy, I am filled with joy! However, I can also be beside myself with sadness, anger, or any other emotions. The expression is useful and simple, but queer. It sounds as if someone has become two people. How can you be next to yourself? Being “beside yourself ” is technically impossible.
In American English, you can simply say “I’m beside myself ” to mean you are very upset. For example,if you have a bad quarrel with a close friend, you might be beside yourself. You might shout, write an angry letter to your friend, or just go somewhere by yourself and cry.
Here’s another situation. A high school student applies to several colleges. If all her applications are refused, she could be beside herself. She might stay up all night worrying about what to do next.
If a person becomes seriously ill, he could start talking in a way that does not make any sense. The patient may also start behaving strangely, walking around the room—back and forth. A doctor might say, “He is beside himself.”
We have another expression that is very similar to “being beside yourself”.We can also be “out of our minds”. We use this expression in the same way we use “beside oneself ”. So we can be out of our minds with fear, with love, with happiness,or with any other emotions. And just like “beside oneself”.we also use this expression on its own without a specific emotion. So, if someone says or does something crazy—like learning how to ride a motorcycle on a dark, rainy night, you can simply say, “She is out of her mind!” You could also say the person is crazy or has lost her mind.
1. What does the underlined word “queer” probably mean?A.Easy. | B.Difficult. | C.Common. | D.Strange. |
A.Excited. | B.Unhappy. | C.Relaxed. | D.Frightened. |
A.By asking some questions. |
B.By telling some stories. |

D.By listing some data. |

【推荐2】Bees and France have a long history together. In the 1800s, Napoleon Bonaparte chose the bee as a symbol of France. In the same century, in 1845, the beekeeping school of Luxembourg Gardens in Paris was started. At that time there were around 2,000 beehives in the city. After that the numbers went down for some time, but beekeeping has become popular again recently. Now there are over 700 hives in Paris. Some of these hives are actually on the roofs of famous Parisian buildings and hotels and restaurants.
City bees make three to five times more honey than country bees. This may be because there are no pesticides in the parks and gardens in Paris. French beekeepers in the countryside lose up to 40 percent of their hives each year because of disease, pesticides, and other causes. However, beekeepers in the city lose less than five percent.
“That's interesting,” you might be thinking, “but isn't there a lot of pollution in Paris?” In fact, pollution does not seem to influence the honey. Parisian honey was tested for 30 kinds of pollution and none were found.
As for the taste, Parisian bees have many kinds of flowers and plants to choose from. In the countryside, however, there is usually only one type of plant. The flowers in Paris give the honey a special taste. But Parisian honey is quite expensive. One pound costs about USD 65.
Beekeepers in Paris face some small problems. For example, if there are too many hives in one area, the bees might not have enough food. So beekeepers must work together and spread out their hives. Another problem is bees in restaurants. One beekeeper had to take his hives away from the roof of a restaurant after his bees started drinking from the flowers indoors. However, technology can be used to check on the hives, with cameras and microphones.
Paris isn't the only city with beehives on its roofs these days. Berlin, Tokyo, London, Washington D.C., and San Francisco also have beehives. So, the next time you're in these cities, look around for some local honey.
