Walking Is Not Enough
All of us need to exercise. However, not everyone has the time or desire to join a gym. Everyone can walk, though! But how can a person with an inactive lifestyle walk for exercise? The key is to set an attainable goal. Just by doing daily chores, an inactive person probably already takes around two thousand steps per day. For exercise purpose, the aim should then be to walk more over time. A popular exercise goal for people these days is ten thousand steps per day.
Reaching a certain number of steps is not enough, however. Casual, slow walking does not really exercise the heart. It does not burn many calories, either. Health benefits result from at least thirty minutes of daily moderate-intensity exercise.
The intensity of a workout only needs to be enough to increase a person’s heart rate. Simply walking fast can do that. Keep in mind, though, that such fast walking needs to continue for at least ten minutes. Five minutes of fast walking six times a day will not benefits one’s health. Three 10-minute sessions can total thirty minutes per day. And that daily goal should be met five times per week.
Dr Vicki Harber is a researcher at the University of Alberta in Canada. She says, “People might not pay much attention to the pace or effort invested in taking those steps.” With a ten-thousand step daily target, Harber recommends that about one-third of those daily steps should be at a faster pace.

Exercising is a free time activity that helps people to feel good in many aspects of the health definition.
The best known part that exercising improves is the physical part. The physical effect of exercising is that every part and system of our body is in continuous movement. There are many parts in our body that benefit from exercise, but one of the most important parts that exercising helps is the blood circulation system. For example, when you exercise, muscles move, and to move, muscles need oxygen in the blood, so the heart has to pump blood at a faster speed to keep the muscles moving. This trains your heart and lungs giving you more strength for the future.
Another part of the definition of health is mental health. This is one of the aspects that makes people exercise. Exercise distracts and relaxes you for a while because in your exercise, you are getting rid of many feelings, such as stress. Many people feel that after exercising, all the problems and pressures of their lifestyle disappear or at least are forgotten for a while. While exercising problems of our lives can be solved because you are calm and relaxed, and it s just much easier to think clearly.
The social aspect of health is helped with exercise because many of the sports are and can be made with someone else. This makes stronger relationships because you meet people that like you and share the same things. I think that this makes you feel more secure and learn about human relationships.
Exercising is an activity that touches the three aspects of health. By exercising you could improve the functioning of your body, be calm in your mind, and meet new people which make a healthier life. All in all, exercising enables you to get the satisfaction of doing something that helps you to live a healthy life. This idea causes many people to think of exercise as a drug. You should try it. Exercise, and be healthy.

Both low and high Body Mass Indices(BMI, 体重指数) are related to an increased risk of death from various causes, according to a new study recently done by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine(LSHTM).
The study, led by LSHTM researchers, looks at how BMI is related to the risk of death in general, and from a full range of different causes. A total of 3.6 million people and 367, 512 deaths were included in the analysis.
BMI is a value from an individual's weight and height. The team suggests that a BMI of between 21 and 25 kilograms per square meter is related to the lowest risk of dying from cancer and heart diseases. In general, both low and high BMIs are related to an increased risk of death.
Obesity(BMI of 30 or more) is related to a loss of 4.2 years of life in men and 3.5 years in women with overweight related to a higher risk of death from cancer and heart diseases, as well as deaths in other major kinds including respiratory(呼吸的) diseases, liver disease, and so on. Low body weight is also related to a higher risk of death from a wide range of causes including heart diseases, respiratory diseases and Alzheimer's disease. “We found important connections between BMIs and most causes of death examined, showing that body weight relative to height is linked to risk of a very wide range of conditions(长期疾病), ” said lead author and professor at LSHTM, Krishnan Bhaskaran.
The study has been published in the magazine The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology. However, the authors also admit limitations of the study, including that there was no information available on the diet or physical activity levels of people included in the study so it was not possible to look at the interplay(相互作用) between BMIs and these related factors.

Parents, teachers, and anyone who regularly deals with teenagers know how difficult the adolescent years can be. Adolescents have always been known to do wild — even dangerous — thing. Now, brain-imaging technology allows scientists to study the physical development of the brain in more detail than ever before. Their discoveries have led to a new theory of why teens act the way they do.
Recently, scientists discovered that though our brains are almost at their full size by the age of six, they are far from fully developed. Only during adolescence do our brains truly “grow up”. During this time, they go through great changes, like a computer system being upgraded. This “upgrade” was once thought to be finished by about age 12. Now, scientists have concluded that our brains continue to change until age 25. Such changes make us better at balancing our impulses (冲动) with the need to follow rules. However, a brain that is still developing does this awkwardly. The result, scientists claim, is the unpredictable behavior seen in teenagers.
The studies confirm that teens are more likely to take risks and behave in extreme ways. Fortunately, the news isn’t all negative. As brain scientist B.J. Casey points out, the teen brain inspires such behavior in order to help teenagers prepare for adult life.
One way the brain does this is by changing the way teens view risks and rewards. Researchers found that when teens think about rewards, their brains release more of the chemicals that create pleasure than an adult brain would. Researchers believe this makes the rewards seem more important than the risks and makes teens feel the excitement of new experiences more keenly than adults do.
Research into the structure of the teen brain also found that it makes social connections seem especially rewarding. As such, teens have an intense need to meet new people. It, therefore, connects social rewards with even more pleasure. In this way, the brain encourages teens to have a wide circle of friends, which is believed to make them more successful in life.

Shyness is partly a result of genes a person has inherited (经遗传得到). It’s also influenced by behaviors they’ve learned, the ways people have reacted to their shyness, and life experiences they’ve had. The examples other people set can also play a role in whether a person learns to be shy or not. If the parents of a shy child are overly cautious or overprotective, it can teach the child to back away from situations that might be uncomfortable or unfamiliar.
Many people want to reduce their shyness. But people who are naturally shy also have gifts that they might not appreciate in themselves. For example, because shy people may prefer listening to talking, they sometimes become really good listeners. People who are shy might also become sensitive to other people’s feelings and emotions. Because of their sensitivity and listening skills, many people with a shy personality are especially caring toward others, and interested in how others feel. People often consider them the finest friends.
Overcoming shyness takes practice. People who are shy tend to give themselves fewer chances to practice social behaviors. It’s no wonder that people who shy away from socializing don’t feel as socially confident as people who are outgoing—they have less practice! The more you practice social behaviors, the easier they get,and the more natural they feel for you.
Take slow, steady steps forward. Going slow is OK. But be sure to go forward. Stepping back from any situations that might trigger you to feel shy can reinforce shyness and keep it at a level that’s hard to get past. Build confidence by taking one small forward step at a time. Also, it’s OK to feel awkward. Everyone does sometimes. People who are shy are often afraid to feel awkward or uncomfortable. But don’t let that keep you from doing what you want. You might feel awkward asking your friends for help. That’s perfectly natural. Whether your friend says “yes” or “no” is out of your control. But not asking at all means you’ll never get the help. So go for it anyway!
