Highly Effective Study Habits

For students, sometimes it’s not easy to concentrate on studying. If you want better grades, you need more effective study habits. The key to effective studying isn’t studying longer but studying smarter.     1

Plan when you’re going to study.

Successful students schedule specific times when they are going to study—and then they stick to their schedule.     2     Even if you can catch up with your studies, creating a weekly routine will enable you to succeed in your education in the long run.

Set a specific goal for each study.

3     You need to know exactly what you need to achieve during each study session. Before you start, set a study goal that supports your overall academic goal (eg. memorize 30 vocabulary words for an upcoming exam).

    4

As your most difficult assignment or subject will need the most effort, you should start with it first. Once you’ve finished the most difficult work, it will be much easier to complete the rest. Believe it or not, this will greatly improve the effectiveness of your study sessions.

Practice by yourself.

Practice makes perfect. You can practice by yourself by testing yourself with either practice exams, or flash cards. If a practice or old exam from a course is available, use it as a guide.     5

We’re confident that if you develop the habits above, you’ll see a great improvement in your academic success.

A.Improve your study effectiveness.
B.You should study regularly all the time.
C.Start with the most difficult subject first.
D.Studying without direction is not effective.
E.You can begin studying smarter with these study habits.
F.Such exams help you understand what to expect in the future exam.
G.Students who study without a schedule usually do not perform so well.

【推荐1】When you’re planning scheduled activities, knowing what to expect can help you feel mentally prepared for what’s to come. But sometimes, despite how much time and effort you put into planning something, things go wrong and everything falls apart.     1     Following are some strategies that can help you cope when things don’t go as planned.

Start by finding alternatives.     2     For instance, if you’re waiting on someone who’s running late, think about what you can productively do in the meantime so you’re not sitting idly by until they arrive. Is there work or a call you might be able to catch up on while you’re waiting?

Besides, you can benefit from working on flexibility. If something changes in your schedule, take a moment to assess how it affects you and whether you can realistically manage the change in plans. Rather than reacting immediately or assuming the worst, calmly and logically work out whether or not you can accommodate the change. You might find that you are in fact able to cope with it.     3

4     People often try very hard to do things perfectly. However, chasing perfection can be a losing battle. It’s often more helpful to have realistic expectations and to be willing to adjust them depending on the circumstances.

What’s more, don’t forget to seek support. If you feel you’re struggling with something difficult, it can be helpful to seek the support of your colleagues, friends, or family members.     5     They can also help you find solutions, or simply provide moral support while you’re facing something difficult.

A.Observing the circumstances is also vital.
B.It can also help to adjust your expectations.
C.But no need to beat yourself up if you can’t.
D.Don’t be panicked if this really stresses you out.
E.They may be able to offer different perspectives.
F.You must be realistic about the difficulty of planning.
G.You can deal with the change by looking for different solutions.

【推荐2】Senior high can be a very hard time for students. These tips can help keep high school stress at a minimum before it becomes too hard to handle

Get organized. By becoming more organized, you can reduce your stress level. Make a daily schedule of all your activities. Another way to become more organized is by getting your supplies and desk in order. Arrange your notes and assignments by topic or date so you can easily find information.

Don’t put off. Delaying doing your schoolwork will only make you more stressed. If you get an assignment that is due in a month, and you don’t have any other assignment to finish, go ahead and begin working on it.

Exercise. Performing some sort of physical activity for thirty minutes three times a week will largely lower your stress level. Taking the time to exercise will help get your mind off the stress in your life.

Get plenty of sleep and eat healthily. You need between seven to eight hours of sleep per night in order to rest your mind and body so they can perform well during the day. Eating well-balanced meals will provide you with enough energy to finish your daily activities.

Take a positive attitude. If you are always negative, then stress will control you. By looking at things in a positive light, you will not only reduce your stress, but you will also feel better about yourself.

Realize that it’s okay to say “no”. If you already have a full schedule, don’t attempt to add anything else to it. If your friends want you to go out at the last minute but doing so would conflict with your schedule, don’t feel bad about turning them down. They will understand. They have been stressed before too.

【推荐3】Almost every human being loves their passions. There are so many ways to go after and build such passions. Some of these come easily and automatically, such as when we were young and everything was new. Those new things made our passions rise. That first day of school, seeing old friends and new friends, could be a quick and huge hit on the passion button.

In my book How to Ignite Your Passion for Living, I make the point that, from my experience, passion can start to fade a bit as we age. But, thankfully, passion can be manufactured. All you need to do is put something together in an unusual, better, or at least new-to-you way.

One of the keys to manufacturing passion is to set difficult goals and work towards them. I clearly remember when I was 27 years old, I set a goal of making $ 1 million for myself by the time I hit age 30. What a huge turn on that was for me. It really boosted my passion. I was one year late in hitting that goal, but having that huge and exciting goal really kept me and my passion going.

From about age 25, your brain produces less and less dopamine and serotonin, the hormones (荷尔蒙) that help you feel good and fan the flames of passion. Although a child’s body are full of these hormones, we need to work on stimulating our system to produce more of these hormones as we age. We can do this by eating the right foods, exercising, and, most importantly, setting the right goals that keep us going after them.

Passion for living comes and goes. Our big challenge then is to figure out what our passion is, what turns our lights on and gets us excited. When we figure that out, we can do it more and more. And it’s always a good idea to write down our goals that keep our passion going so it will stick in our brain, pushing us to go after the goals.

1. What can we know from the first paragraph?

2. What does the example in the third paragraph suggest?
A.Passion will become less as we age.B.Passion is something to make money.
C.Passion should start as young as possible.D.Passion is sometimes the product of a great goal.
3. What does the underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refer to?
A.Our passion.B.Our challenge.
C.The goal.D.The idea.
4. What is best title for the text?
A.How to Set GoalsB.How to Stimulate Passion
C.What Is PassionD.What Makes Passion
