The FIFA World Cup Trophy is arguably one of the most iconic prizes in the sporting world. So far, two different trophies (奖杯) have been used in the history of the FIFA World Cups.
The Jules Rimet Trophy was the first trophy awarded to the winners of the FIFA World Cups. Initially, the old trophy was originally named “Victory”. However, this trophy was renamed “the Jules Rimet Trophy” in 1946. This change was made to honor former FIFA president Jules Rimet, who voted to organize the first FIFA World Cup in 1930. French sculptor Abel Lafleur designed the trophy in 1930. The trophy was 14 inches in height and weighed 8.4 pounds. It was comprised of a winged representation of Nike and the Greek Goddess of Victory.
Uruguay became the first champion and kept the trophy in 1930. The trophy was eventually retired when Brazil won the World Cup final for the third time in 1970. Following their success in Mexico, Brazil was allowed to keep the trophy permanently. However, the original trophy was stolen for a second time in 1983. It was never recovered, and it was claimed that it had been melted down into gold bars. Following the retirement of the Jules Rimet Trophy, FIFA needed a new cup. Eventually, Italian artist Silvio Gazzaniga’s design was selected as the new World Cup trophy.
The modern FIFA World Cup trophy describes two human figures holding the earth on top of their heads. The base of the trophy has “FIFA World Cup” engraved (刻). Furthermore, following every World Cup, the name of the winning team and the winning year is also engraved at the base. The trophy weighs 13.61 pounds. Unlike the Jules Rimet Trophy, the winning nations and future winners don’t get to hold the original trophy anymore. The new regulations state that it remains in FIFA’s possession. Instead, winners are given a gold-plated bronze replica (青铜复制品) provided by FIFA.
The new trophy can hold up to seventeen names and years and is likely to be retired following the 2038 World Cup.

Finally, many great players come from the same kind of neighborhood — a poor, crowded area where a boy’s dream is not to be a doctor, lawyer, or businessman, but to become a rich, famous athlete or entertainer. For example, Liverpool, which produced the Beatles, had one of the best English soccer teams in recent years. Pele practiced in the street with a “ball” made of rags. And George Best learned the tricks that made him famous by bouncing the ball off a wall in the slums(贫民窟) of Belfast.
All great players have a lot in common, but that doesn’t explain why they are great. Hundreds of boys played in those Brazilian streets, but only one became Pele. The greatest players are born with some unique quality that sets them apart from all the others.

It was like history repeated itself because 28 years ago, in 1994, China finished the World Championship with silver medals in Australia as well. On the way to the top stage, they defeated traditional women’s basketball powerhouses including France and Australia.
Actually, the road to the success was quite tough. On the one hand, Chinese top scorer Li Meng, who suffered from a fever, was absent from the final. Earlier in the group stage, China lost to the United States 77 -63, when Li scored 21 points, more than anyone else on the court. On the other hand, the aggressiveness of competitors produced 13 steals for USA and forced 19 turnovers out of China. Moreover, there was always a defender following Han Xu closely to stand in the passing route between Han and her teammates. It was very difficult for the Chinese guard to pass the ball out against such defense, not to mention to feed Han for an open shot.
Faced with challenges, girls didn’t give up. They worked together to compete against the “powerhouse”. Li Yueru led China with 19 points and 12 rebounds, which made Li the first double-double in a World Cup final since 2013. Meanwhile, Chinese player Wu Tongtong scored 13 points before being helped off the court with a leg injury.
“We tried our best to win today. Though we didn’t make it, we feel that we showed our best and hope to get better results in the future, ”Li told Xinhua.
Saturday’s loss was not the best result for China, but it could be a good lesson for their players, head coach Zheng Wei and every other involved with Chinese basketball development to learn so they can do better in the future.

You cannot wear a tie if you work with machinery. So wearing a tie became a sign that you were a man who used your brain to make a living, rather than your hands. It showed you were serious. It showed you were a professional. It meant that everyone who wanted a job in business had to wear one. It was just impossible to take seriously a man who didn't wear a piece of colored silk around his neck. This is how millions of people came to be wearing ties across the world. They are part of the uniform of business.
“Ties offer a point of indifference,” says John Milne, head of the British Guide of Tie Makers. “They give a chance to say something about their own personality.”
So if you happen to meet a man with a very brightly colored tie, there is a good chance that he is the office joker. There is also a good chance that he will be wearing brightly colored socks.
Is there a future for ties? The signs are not promising. Tie wearing seems to be rare among the new bread of entrepreneurs(企业家) in the Internet and new technology industries. Many political leaders, including British Prime Minister Tony Blair, now go without ties. This shows they are men of the people—but not the people wearing ties.
Up until around 1960, it was common for men across the Western world to wear hats as part of their business uniform. That changed with the election of John F. Kennedy to the presidency of the United States. Kennedy never wore a hat in fact his nickname was “hatless Jack”. Seeing that the most powerful man in the world did not have to wear a hat, millions of other men decided that they did not have to, either. Hats simply vanished across the Western world. Perhaps “tieless Tony” (UK Prime Minister Tony Blair) will have the same effect as “hatless Jack”.

Columbus landed near the north coast of Jamaica on June 20, 1503 with only two of his four ships. At first, the natives welcomed Columbus and his crew, providing them with food and other supplies, and welcoming them with open arms.
This arrangement didn’t last very long. Over the next several months Columbus’ crew repaid the generosity of the natives by frequently stealing and cheating them. As a result of this, by January of 1504, the native people decided to stop supplying the Europeans.
Without the significant source of food or means to leave, Columbus’ crew were in serious trouble. Luckily for his crew, Columbus had certain lunar knowledge. He predicted there would be a total lunar eclipse on the evening of February 29, 1504. He also knew what time it would occur.
Armed with this knowledge, which Columbus chose to gamble would be extremely accurate, he called a meeting with the chiefs of the nearby tribes shortly before the eclipse was to take place. In this meeting, he told them his god was angry with them for ceasing to give him supplies. As a result, his god would take away the moon as a sign of his anger and subsequently punish them for their actions.
Luckily for Columbus, the predicted lunar eclipse took place more or less on schedule. The Indians observed this and were so astonished and frightened that with sad scream that they came running from every direction to the ships, promising they would diligently supply all their necessities in the future.
Columbus agreed to take their case before his god and went into his cabin to “pray”. Columbus knew the moon would stay completely in the Earth’s shadow for around 48 minutes, so he waited for the proper time for the moon to begin to appear. Shortly before this took place, he came back out and told the natives that he had asked his god to forgive them and god had agreed. The moon began to reappear and Columbus no longer had trouble getting the provisions he needed.

There have been about 200,000 figures and symbols carved into the rocks over a time period of approximately 8,000 years. Valcamonica's pictures show various scenes and are connected through common themes like magic, war, navigation and agriculture.
The rock drawings discovered in Valcamonica were the first prehistoric symbols of their kind recognized anywhere in the world. UNESCO first recognized the drawings in 1979 when about 140,000 were discovered, however, since then many more have been uncovered.
These drawings are spread all across the valley. The carvings began to taper off during the Iron Age and fewer appeared after that. The last period has been attributed to (归功于……) the Camunni people. Still there are drawings that have been identified as being from the 19th century. Many of these were created using the technique of engraving (雕刻).
Some of the figures discovered in Valcamonica have been superimposed (叠印) without any order, but in most cases they appear in logical orders and also explain the relationship between each picture or symbol to tell a story.
The first known modern report of the rock carvings was in 1909 when Walther Laeng happened upon two decorated rocks in Capo di Ponte. Scholars only took interest in the drawings in the 1920s. More rocks with engravings were soon found in the areas nearby and research into their history began. In the 1930s comprehensive study campaigns were undertaken.
It was after the Second World War that the cataloging and mapping of the engravings began. This task was taken up by various teams of experts from Italy and other countries that were led by Laeng. In 1955 preservation work on the rocks began.
In 1968, a large series of conferences were held where scholars from all over the world met to discuss the rock drawings, which give us some idea of what various societies of the past might have been like.

Our research team at Griffith University’s Cities Research Institute partnered with Neuron Mobility to conduct a survey of Townsville tourists between 2020 and 2021.
We analyzed the visiting e-scooter users’ travel and spending behaviors. Though their e-scooter hire costs were identical (一样的) ,the visitors who rode the e-scooters the most spent most money in Townsville.
The active e-scooter users completed average 11 e-scooter trips, covering nearly 26 kilometers each while in Townsville. Many of these trips would have been completed by walking if e-scooters were unavailable. But they would have taken longer to complete each trip on foot, thus limiting the total number of destinations visited. Some other trips wouldn’t have occurred at all. One user commented, “We enjoyed being able to travel to areas that we would not normally have been to or were too far to walk in a reasonable amount of time.”
Many of these users said they did not need to use a car thanks to the e-scooters. This meant they were able to travel along the streets in Townsville without being trapped in the already busy roadways.
Across all the e-scooter users surveyed, most had never ridden an e-scooter before, but 91 percent reported they could ride it easily. Confirming the positive effect of e-scooters on both city image and visitor experience, 93 percent said they enjoyed travelling within Townsville. Besides, of all the visitors, active users spent more money on restaurants and cafes than the conditions without using e-scooters. Light users also spent a greater amount of money, mainly on shopping and services.
Henry, an-scooter user said, “The weekly pass was extremely cost-effective. I highly recommend it and I will use e-scooters again.” In fact, tourist cities like Townsville that adopt e-scooter sharing are promoting their image and tourism economy.

He’s a storyteller, only the stories he tells aren’t made of words; they’ re fashioned of wood and metal. Forsland spends his time building custom guitars-and the stories behind the instruments are just as important to him as the superb quality and sound of his creations.
Born and raised in central Alberta, Forsland has spent most of his life building things, ranging from custom furniture and houses to skateboards and surfboards. He became a professional luthier in 2014. The quality of Forsland’s JOI Guitars has attracted interest from professional musicians, like Guns N’Roses guitarist Slash, who hired him to make a guitar.
Every custom guitar Reuben Forsland makes begins with conversations and connections. “The focus is to create a guitar that inspires the player to make an emotional and spiritual connection,” said Forsland. For Slash’s guitar, Forsland went to great lengths to find a source of inspiration. Once he found out Jimi Hendrix was one of Slash’s heroes, Forsland spent six months tracking down Pete Sikov, the owner of the Seattle house Hendrix grew up in. “I asked Pete if he was open to the concept of using some of the wood from the house for Slash’s guitar, and he was good with that,” said Forsland, who has since completed four guitars using some of that wood.
Forsland’s focus these days is on making the world’s first traditionally built guitar from hemp wood (麻木), a wood material made from hemp fibres.“It absorbs four times more CO2 in its lifetime than the same area as a forest,” Forsland said. He supports environmental sustainability with the same passion he brings to making guitars. That’s why he chose Earth Day as the perfect time to launch his hemp wood guitar officially. “Although this guitar can’t save the environment, it’s a piece of the conversation about what can be created with a sustainable product in today’s marketplace.”

Set in Chang' an, China's ancient imperial capital and the world's most magnificent metropolis during the Tang Dynasty, the 48-episode series revolves around how detective-turned-prisoner Zhang Xiaojing and Li Bi, head of Chang'an's anti-terror department, teamed up to stop a terrorist attack on the eve of the Lantern Festival. The events in the drama series take place within a span of 24 hours.
Shot in the ancient Chinese city of Xi' an in Shaanxi Province, this popular TV drama has made the city a tourist hot spot. Thousands of tourists have been flooding into this city to experience the magnificence and glory of its scenic spots that have been portrayed in a fascinating manner in the TV serial. "In the first week of this month, online enquiries about flight ticket bookings to Xi'an recorded a 130-percent year-on-year peak," said Ctrip, China's largest online travel agency.
