I used to play football when I was a little kid. Okay, let’s face it. I was never really a little kid. I was so big that I got to play football a whole year ahead of my friends. Our football league didn’t have an age limit, but it had a weight requirement. If you were heavy enough, you got to play. I was heavy enough at the age of eight.
The only problem was, by the time I turned ten I was too heavy. You had to weigh a certain amount to start playing, but if you weighed too much they made you stop. Not playing would be just fine with me. I would be happier sitting at home reading a book.
Dad was one of the team’s big sponsors and friends of the coach, so I figured I would let him down and that quitting wasn’t an option. I went, day after day, and week after week... until I was eleven and weighed more than two hundred pounds. I thought that would be the end of it, once and for all.
However, my coach came up with a bright idea to help me lose weight. The very next practice he presented me with a T-shirt made out of a black garbage bag. “Put it on,” he said, pointing out the holes for my head and arms. “Start running around the practice field.” “Koop going, Fireplug (消防栓),” other players would shout. “Fireplug” was the new name they gave me. Although no one ever explained it to me, I figured it had something to do with me being shaped like it.
Every day in practice, I had to run in that stupid garbage bag. My short fat legs weren’t exactly comfortable, and often I’d trip and fall. The other players would laugh. At that moment, I asked myself, “Why? Was I being punished for something? Wasn’t the running, sweating and pain enough?” I suddenly realized that I’d been knocking myself out for something I didn’t even want to do in the first place!

No matter how hard the sailors and passengers worked at the pumps, the water was still rising. The ship was sinking fast. There seemed to be no hope. But the captain told them not to give up hope. He said that there was hope so long as the ship remained above water. He promised that if they didn’t give up hope, he would land them safely. The captain’s powerful will moved them all. In the end he did land them safely.
After they landed, John found the captain to show his appreciation. But to his surprise, the captain said to him that he was the boy of 30 years ago who bought a geography book in his bookstore. Chocolate has come a long way through history, and one of the reasons is the Ferrero family, the creators of the worldfamous Ferrero Rocher chocolate treats. The history of this family business starts back in the 1940s, when Pietro Ferrero and his wife, Piera, transformed a pastry shop into a factory. There, Pietro and his son, Michele, let their creativity lead them to form the building blocks of the company.Eventually, Michele took over the operation and set his sights on making the best products possible.
Michele's efforts paid off.He turned his father's creations into globally sold and consumed products. One of their most successful products, Nutella, had become a staple food in many homes. The third generation now runs the company.Michele's sons, Pietro and Giovanni worked side by side as managing directors for ten years until an accident resulting in Pietro' death.Still inspired by his family and their hard work and determination, Giovanni is guiding Ferrero into the future.
While staying true to the Ferrero motto of “work, create, and donate”, he is making sure his family's business is an example of success in the past, present, and future.

While waiting to pick up a friend at the airport in Portland, I had one of life-changing experiences. It happened only two feet away from me.
In order to find my friend among the passengers, I noticed a man walking toward me carrying two light bags. He stopped right next to me to greet his family.
First he smiled at his younger son, about six years old, as he laid down his bags. They gave each other a long hug(拥抱). I heard the father said, “It’s so good to see you. I missed you so much!” His son smiled shyly and replied happily, “Me too, Dad!”
Then the man stood up, cupping (捧着) his eldest son’s face in his hands and said, “You are already quite a young man. I love you very much, Zach!” Then the father gave the son a warm hug.
At the same time, the man’s baby girl was squirming(来回扭动) excitedly in her mother’s arms. The man said, “Hi, baby girl!” as he gently took the baby from her mother. He kissed her face. The little girl felt satisfied in her father’s arms.
After that, he handed the baby to his eldest son and gave his wife the longest and warmest hug. He gently said, “I love you so much!” They looked at each others’ eyes with big smiles on their faces.
At that moment, they reminded me of newly-married couples, though it couldn’t be possible by the age of their sons. Full of admiration, I asked, “Wow! How long have you two been married?”“Almost 10 years in total,” the father replied.

When asked how long he had been away from his family, he said it was only two days.

We have that one person in our life who constantly tries to make us a better person. That person sacrifices his time and energy for the pursuit to put us in the right path and not let us wander away into dangerous waters. I have had the experience of having such a person who managed to change my life for better.
I picked up the habit of smoking right after my high school. From wanting to have first-time experience with holding a cigarette, I started developing a minor addiction towards it. In company with friends who smoked, I started smoking regularly and became heavily addicted to smoking. I used to secretly smoke in the house so that my parents wouldn’t find out. There were days when I used to smoke a full packet of cigarettes, which changed my life.
I was proud of my brother, but he was also a chain-smoker and had started suffering lung problems because of the heavy smoking. He quit smoking because of the regular chest pains and other complications which started developing. Since he faced a lot of health problems, he started understanding the bad impacts of smoking.
He knew I had become badly addicted to smoking. Since he was very close to me and loved me, he started asking me to quit smoking. I never listened to him. He used to hide my packet of cigarettes or throw them in the bin.
Despite his regular pains and problems, he made it his aim to make me quit smoking. However, on one particular day he complained of severe chest pains so we rushed him to the nearby hospital. His condition worsened in the hospital and the next day, he was declared dead. We were in great shock and the whole thing seemed unbelievable. I missed my brother a lot and was frequently reminded of his repeated warning to me to quit smoking.

Good morning! My name is Sarah Williams. It’s an honour to be here and to share with you the story of how music has had an impact on my life.
Have you ever faced a time when things looked dark and you had no hope at all? Two years ago, I was told I had a serious disease which was difficult to cure. My body ached all the time and thus I thought I didn’t have much longer to live. I was very afraid and I felt so alone and discouraged. Then one day, I had to go through a two-hour medical treatment. The doctor wanted me to relax so he had me listen to some music, and one of the songs was “Happy”. The song made me feel so much better that from then on I began to listen to music all the time. John A. Logan said, “Music is the medicine of the mind.” And it’s true. Music helped me recover.

Although I am a girl, I can say I am a true fan of soccer games, for it is definitely one of the best ways to get away from my tiring work temporarily and have fun. Therefore, the moment I got the news that there would be a game between our home team against the Team from London City, immediately I booked a seat at the front row, wishing to have a fantastic weekend.
I had a great mood when I got seated in the stadium. However, as the game began, I spotted that in front of me sat a guy, who looked quite nice. But maybe his idea of having fun was nothing like mine, or most normal well-behaved fans, such as standing and yelling, non-stop, as loud as he could. He yelled at the coaches, at the players, at the London City’s fans, and even at the officials present, always at the top of his lungs.
He kept his action for the entire 45 minutes and never showed any sign of tiredness. Obviously he was so absorbed in the game that he failed to notice he was ruining the experience of hundreds of others.
With him yelling by me, my ear drums almost got broken, for his mouth was so close to my ears. For a while, I even thought of shouting back at him and stopping his yelling. People around were turning to look at him, and I could read their thoughts, “Is he never going to stop?” But He seemed blind to those looks.
At half-time, I escaped by walking for a few minutes outside the stadium. I was thinking of seeking an empty seat in the student section across the stadium, but to my disappointment, the seats were all taken. I had no choice but to go back to the guy.
To make matters worse, when returning to my seat, I missed my steps and fell heavily on the stairs. As I was struggling to stand up, a pair of huge hands helped me from behind.
