I know what you’re thinking: pizza for breakfast? But the truth is that you can have last night’s leftovers in the morning if you want to.
I know lots of women who skip breakfast, and they have a ton of different excuses for doing it. Some say they don t have time, others think they’re “saving” calories, still others just don’t like breakfast food.
But the bottom line is that eating in the morning is very important when you’re trying to lose weight. “Eating just about anything from 300 to 400 calories would be better than nothing at all,” says Catherine Brooking, MS, RD, who developed the super-easy eating plan for this year’s “SELF CHALLENGE”. And even pizza can be healthy if it’s loaded with vegetables, and you stick to one small piece.
Breakfast is one meal I never miss, and the same goes for most weight loss success stories. Research shows that eating breakfast keeps you from overeating later in the day. Researchers at the University of Southern California found that breakfast skippers have a bigger chance of gaining weight than those who regularly have a morning meal.
So eat something in the morning, anything. I know plenty of friends who end up having no breakfast at all,and have just coffee or orange juice. I say, try heating up last night’s leftovers — it may sound crazy, but if it works for you,do it! I find if I tell myself, “You can always eat it tomorrow,” I will put away the leftovers instead of eating more that night. Try it and you may save yourself some pre-bedtime calories. And watch your body gain the fat-burning effects.

As he spent 108 minutes in orbit, the Russian astronaut consumed a tube of beef-and-liver paste (糊状物) with a side of chocolate sauce. His American counterparts (同行) enjoyed equally unappetizing cuisine during their trips to the moon, but pureed (做成泥的) meat gave way to freeze-dried meals by the time the space shuttle first launched in 1981. Today, astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) also enjoy fresh fruit and vegetables sent from home.
An increasingly appealing space diet has ensured astronauts get more of what their bodies need. Life aboard the ISS, for example, is hard—a six-hour spacewalk can burn more than 2,000 calories—so it’s essential that astronauts consume enough food to do the job. And over time, zero gravity weakens the heart and other muscles, requiring anyone living in it to exercise regularly. “Flavor is the primary driver for most decisions surrounding food intake,” says Robin Tucker, an assistant professor of nutrition science at Michigan State University.
Floating freely can weaken the sense of taste and smell. Providing a variety of seasonings (调味品) helps with that. NASA also makes sure the Space Station has crew members’ favorite snacks. The menu includes goodies, like the occasional pizza during resupply flights.
However, deliveries won’t be possible on a month’s long trip to Mars, and refrigerators and freezers require too much room and energy to be practical. Given that vitamins and minerals in packaged meals slowly break down, NASA is researching how astronauts might grow vegetables. It also has experimented with something like a 3D printer that would combine powdered starch (粉状淀粉), protein, and fat with micronutrients, oil, and water to make tasty food. As humans go ever farther into space, such ideas will ensure they eat something healthier, fresher, and more acceptable than wet and sticky stuff squeezed from a tube.

Processed foods are designed to make you overeat.
Processed foods often contain artificial ingredients. If you’re looking at the label on a box of your favorite junk food, there are probably a bunch of ingredients that you can barely pronounce.
Many processed foods are high in carbohydrates (碳水化合物) and low in nutrients and fiber. Not all carbohydrates are bad, but processed foods are often packed with refined carbohydrates. They can cause your blood sugar to increase very quickly. On top of that, processed foods are typically much lower in nutrients and the fiber is often removed.
A.Processed foods may raise your health risk. |
B.Some processed foods aren’t bad for you at all. |
C.All processed foods are loaded with added sugar and fat. |
D.At the same time, we have also gained a host of health issues. |

Honey is actually sweeter than sugar is, which means, in theory at least, that you could enhance flavor equally with a smaller quantity of honey. But honey actually has a higher calorie count. It may have more minerals, which looks better on a label but, in reality, these are such trace amounts that they don’t offer any real advantages.
Honey’s reputation as a medicine is not wholly unfounded. Some honey does indeed have antibacterial properties. One byproduct of enzymes in honey is hydrogen peroxide, a powerful germ killer. Plus, honey’s texture and consistency are good for keeping wounds clean, and bad for bugs that might want to infect them. Honey is moist and its gooey consistency mean it can easily spread over and stay over wounds while keeping the tissue from becoming dry and fragile. The sticky substance means bacteria can not accumulate and multiply easily. It is particularly well-known for fighting bacteria like staph, salmonella, E. Coliand certain bacteria that can infect the gut and cause ulcers.
However, scientists can only say this for sure about Makuna and Malaysian Tualang honey. We don’t know yet whether local home grown honey has the same potency-or safety. A hot cup of tea with some honey stirred in certainly sounds like it would make you feel better. But it’s difficult to say for sure that it will.
When you have a cold, contact with warm water (from tea) may help to bust up phlegm(痰)that blocks your airways. But some suspect the real secret to the qualities of a cuppa is in the honey. There are studies that suggest that honey does work as well or better than cough suppressant(抑制性的) drugs like Robitussin.
Most of these, however, were considered by the academic world to be widely misinterpreted by the media. One of the findings that seemed to have given the honey trend some additional legs came from a study that said there was “no difference”, statistically speaking, between honey and one particular cough suppressant.
