The Three Peaks Challenge is an event in which people climb up the highest mountains of England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours. A 3-year-old boy has become the _________ person ever to complete the challenge. Jaxon Krzysik took on this challenge with his dad to raise money for children with brain injuries. He tried his best to finish the task in memory of his _________ Ralph Rowlands.

When Jaxon first went to school, he wasn’t very _________. That changed after he met Ralph. They spent so much time together and grew very _________. “Ralph made Jaxon feel comfortable. He made my son laugh and come home with a _________ on his face every single day,” Jaxon’s dad said.

Jaxon wanted to do something for Ralph. Then he _________ the Three Peaks Challenge with his dad. Altogether, Jaxon walked 23 miles, completed 20 hours of walking, and managed to raise £1, 350. About 100 years ago, two workers looked for metal in a mine (矿). They were surprised to find an amazing place there. It was a cave full of huge white crystals. This cave is in Mexico. It is about 300 meters under the ground. It is part of the Naica Mine. There is much treasure in the mine, such as silver, gold, and of course, crystals. These crystals are like large swords. They are the world’s largest crystals. They are as big as pine trees. They have a long history. They were born about 400,000 years ago.

The environment of the cave is terrible. It is very hot, about 40℃—60℃. It is also very humid (潮湿的). Walking in the cave is like walking in the Amazon Rainforest where it often rains. People can stay no longer than 20 minutes there because the air is very thin and it is very hard to breathe. So it is difficult for scientists to do scientific research in the cave.

Where do crystals come from? There is lots of SiO₂ in nature. It can be in water, liquid rock (岩浆) or air. When it is hot and humid, it comes together to become crystals.

Nature is like a great magician. It is full of magic. It makes so many beautiful wonders on the earth. And it gives us many surprises that we can’t imagine sometimes.

I love going to my grandfather’s house because there are a lot of green trees and clear water all around. I have a number of friends there as well. We have great fun together. One day an incident (意外事件) happened and I will never forget it!

I like playing in the fields. One afternoon I was walking through one of the fields when I noticed something lying curled up on the ground. It looked like a snake. And it was right in front of me. I felt nervous and afraid. I stood still (静止地) for a moment, not knowing what to do. I was afraid that the “snake” would notice me and bite me. I slowly moved and ran back home to tell my grandfather and other people in the village what I saw. Then they came with me to see the “snake”. To my surprise, the “snake” was still lying in the same position. It hadn’t moved at all.

My grandfather and some other people went close to the “snake” and suddenly they laughed loudly. My grandfather told me that it was not a “snake” but a whip (鞭子). He lifted it up and gave it to me. I took the whip in my hand and felt so stupid. Then I found some of my friends laughing heartily. Later I learnt that my friends had planned to play a trick on me by putting the whip there. They had meant to make me “an April Fool”.

A friend gave me a book about flowers and trees. For some reason, it was special in my heart. Maybe that was because I lost all my things in a fire or he handed the book to me with love.

Some weeks later, I had a burst tire (爆胎) at the worst time of the day. I had my two babies with me but no spare tire.

Soon I noticed three young men in a boat on the river. “Hey, boys! Could you please give a lady and her kids a ride to town?” They looked at me as if I was joking. But it didn’t take long before they realized I was serious. Then one of them made a phone call to someone.

Soon, a middle-aged man stopped a car near me and asked if he could help me. I felt sad because I had no money to offer the kind person. During our journey to town we got to know each other. I learnt he was a kind gardener.

I brought my special book at all times, and I didn’t want to part with it. But because of the man’s kindness, I was able to go to town with my babies safely. So I put the book under his seat quietly at last.

It was a book full of love and thanks. I wished the man happiness and luck every day.
