Before graduating college, Jackie began to look for a job. She aimed at a famous company, but the _________for such jobs was very strong. Cindy’s story is not uncommon, but help is always there. All schools in the UK now have to follow strict bullying polices（政策）. There are many charities and organizations giving support to young people, such as Bullying UK and Childline. So remember one very important piece of advice: If you are being bullied, don’t put up with it—tell someone.

Working as a vet (兽医), I met a family who taught me an unforgettable lesson. They came to my clinic (诊所) with their dying dog, Coco. I examined Coco and found she was old and had a serious illness. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Coco, and euthanasia (安乐死) would be best for the dog.   

On that day, their little boy Eric seemed so calm (镇静的), petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if Eric understood what was going on.

The little boy seemed to accept Coco’s death without any difficulty. We sat together for a while after Coco’s death, explaining that animal lives are shorter than human lives.

Eric, who had been listening quietly, said, “I know why.”

He said, “People need a lifetime to learn how to live a good life—like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?” The 6-year-old continued, “Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”

I’d never heard a more soft-hearted explanation as to why animal lives are so short. It has changed the way I live. I see every day as the day that my life could be easily taken away, so I try to live my life to the fullest.

Your parents always tell you that a good education is the key to a bright future. The promise you made to finish your schooling will be completed after high school. Another few years in some college classrooms just doesn’t sound too attractive. So what are your choices? Let’s see, Choice One—You can live with your parents and do nothing. Or Choice Two—You could get yourself a job. Of course, there are other choices, but for this little discussion, we’ll just suppose that they aren’t related(有关的).

OK, so Choice Two is obviously(明显地) going to be more useful. You will finally enter the real world. Well, hopefully high school will help to give you some kind of an idea of what type of job you like. If not, then it will be a good idea to speak with an expert working in the field you would like to enter. Gaining knowledge can be good by helping you find the job that you will enjoy doing. Another reason is to get some valued things before working. Internships(见习) or volunteering is usually a good place to start.

If you are ready to begin a job after high school, you will save money from college cost and happily making a living in your chosen jobs. From another point of view, jumping into the workforce(劳动力) is sometimes the only way to see for yourself if you are ready to work a 40-hour week. If you decide that full-time work is not what you are ready for, then this may advise that you should go back to a university and get a certificate（证书）.
