The year 2022 is a big year for sports in China. That’s because it holds not only the 24th Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, but also the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.

On August 6, 2018, the official emblem(会徽) for the Hangzhou Asian Games came out. It will be the third Chinese city to hold the Asian Games after Beijing and Guangzhou in 1990 and 2010. Called “Surging Tides(潮汐)”, the emblem includes six parts: a Chinese fan, the Qiantang River, a tidal bore(怒潮), a running track, the Internet icon and the glowing red sun of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).

To make the Beijing Games a great success(成功), Chinese people worked hard to prepare. Beijing built a great number of roads and stadiums(体育场), including the famous National Olympic Sports Center and Olympic Village.

For the 2022 Asian Games, Hangzhou has already started building 33 sports venues(场馆). The themes(主题) for the Hangzhou Asian Games are “green, smart, economical and civilized”.

If you are a visitor, you may look for the post office in a foreign country. Can you imagine(想象) how those people will tell you the way?

In many places, people usually say “Sorry, I don’t know” when they can’t tell you the way. However, in Mexico(墨西哥), the people think “I don’t know” is not polite(有礼貌的). They usually give an answer, often a wrong one.

So you must be careful of their habits(习惯) when you are asking the way in a foreign country.

Rat and Mole are at home all day. Mole is bored. He says, “I want to visit Badger.” But Rat tells him, “Badger lives in the middle of the Wild Wood. It’s a long way to go in winter.”

But Mole still wants to go. When Rat is asleep, he puts on a coat and goes into the Wild Wood. It is cold and the sky is grey, first it is fun. But then it gets dark. Mole sees strange little faces in the wood. The faces have sharp teeth. He hears strange noises and he is afraid. Poor Mole runs and runs through the wood. Then he sees a hole inside a tree and he hides there.

When Rat wakes up at home, he calls, “Mole, Mole!” but Mole doesn’t answer. And Mole’s coat isn’t there. Rat thinks, “Mole is visiting Badger. Oh, no! Mole is in the Wild Wood!” he puts on his coat and puts a gun in his pocket. He goes along the path to the Wild Wood. He sees the strange faces with sharp teeth. But they see Rat’s gun, and go away. Rat calls and calls, “Mole, where are you? It’s me—Rat.”

At last, Mole answers. “Rat, I’m here! In the tree! I am very frightened!” he says in a little voice.

“Don’t worry, Mole,” says Rat, “Let’s go home now!”

But Mole is very tired. He wants to sleep, so Rat sits and waits. While Mole is sleeping, it begins to snow. The snow is white and it covers all the paths.

Later, Mole wakes up. Then the two friends set off through the white woods. Everything is different with the snow and soon Rat and Mole are lost. They walk for hours but they cannot find the way home. They are tired, and cold, and hungry.

Suddenly, Rat sees a sign in the snow. The sign says, “Mr Badger”.

“It’s Badger’s front door,” says Rat. He is very excited.

They ring the doorbell. “Who is it?” calls Badger.

“Oh, Badger,” cries Rat. “It’s me, Rat, and my friend Mole, and we are lost in the snow.”

Edith Nesbit, the writer of The Railway Children was born in London in 1858. Her father died when she was only four years old. She grew up with two sisters and three brothers in a house in the country. The children had many happy adventures as they explored(探索) the gardens, forests, and the railway tracks near their home. When Nesbit was fourteen years old, she began to write poems.

Nesbit got married at the age of eighteen. They were poor and she began to write stories to get some money. Many of her stories in The Railway Children came from her own childhood. It was set in an ordinary family which went through great changes in London. The story mainly talked about the lives of three children: Roberta, Peter and Phyllis. They helped people around them with wisdom and kindness.

The Railway Children is one of her most famous stories and one of the most popular children’s stories in England. It was first published(出版) in 1905. Since then, it has been translated into many different languages and made into plays and movies.

My dad decided to try to help her. He brought paints, brushes and p    84     to her room. He put paper o    85     the wall, put the brush in his mouth and began to paint. He didn’t use his hands at all. Only his head moved. My dad told the girl, “See, you can do a    86     you want to do.”

My dad would cry every time he told us this story. He would say, “Sometimes love is more powerful than doctors.”
