Visiting Xi’an was once Leah’s dream. It came true when she went to China along with her two friends last year.

In Xi’an, she enjoyed many kinds of food and watched some traditional shows. All of them left a wonderful impression (印象) on her. Now, Xi’an is like her second home. Since Leah came back to America, she has been missing Xi’an very much.
Leah’s 20-day stay in Xi’an was a great experience. It was a chance to increase her understanding of Chinese culture. Leah said. “The Chinese people are all friendly. High-speed trains, Alipay, shared bikes and online payment are seen as the new Four Great Inventions of China by young foreigners, according to a video survey (调查) by Beijing Foreign Studies University. In the video, young people from different countries along Belt and Road Routes (一带一路) were asked to name great inventions that influenced their lives in China. The following is what they said from 4 young people of them.
Justin I’m from Romania. China is really a great country and its high-speed railways are very fast, easy and tidy. It takes me only about 4 hours from Beijing to Shanghai by train. It saves a lot of time and it’s cheaper than the airplane. I wish we would have high-speed trains in our country someday. | I’m from Nepal. I always go out by bike. Bicycle-sharing system (系统) allows people to borrow a bike from point “A”and return it at point “B”. It’s not only cheap but also a low-carbon (低碳的) and healthy way of life. I like it very much. |
My life in Beijing is quite different from that in India. Here in China, I seldom take money with me when I go out. I can pay for almost everything by Alipay. It’s really amazing. However, in India, if you don’t take the wallet with you, you’ll get into trouble. | You can find many wonderful things that we don’t have in Thailand. We don’t have Alipay or other online payment apps. I can buy almost everything without stepping out of the doors in China. If only I could bring these technologies to my country! |

A rooftop garden is a garden on the roof (屋顶). Putting a garden on your roof is a nice way to turn an empty (空旷的) space into something pretty and relaxing.
Rooftop gardens are not a new idea. About 2,600 years ago, people in Ancient Mesopotamia planted rooftop gardens. There were similar gardens in Ancient Rome and Ancient Egypt. They had these gardens for a very important reason. The enemy army usually tried to destroy (摧毁) the city’s food, so the people in the city kept their gardens on top of their walls. That way they could go on growing food.
Today, rooftop gardens are still beneficial. If there are a lot of plants on a rooftop, they make the whole building cooler. As a result, people in the building use their air conditioning less, so they can use less electricity. One study said that if every roof in Tokyo had a garden, the city would save more than a million dollars a day on electricity.
Rooftop gardening is harder than normal gardening. Here are a few tips. First of all, build a fence (篱笆) around your garden if you don’t want the wind to blow plants off your roof! Also, remember that rooftop gardens get more sun. If you have a plant that shouldn’t get too much sun, remember to put it in cool places sometimes.
27. Ancient people had rooftop gardens to ________.A.grow food | B.save money |
C.make the city more beautiful | D.live an interesting life |
A.unbelievable | B.truthful | C.strange | D.helpful |
A.A fence can stop the plants from blowing off. |
