Today, many children spend a lot of their free time playing games on the Internet. In the UK, 99% of kids aged 8 to 15 play video games. They spend almost 14 hours gaming a week. This information tells us that the benefits and dangers of video games must be carefully considered.
For many people, video games are fun. They have bright lights, funny cartoons and exciting stories. Everywhere you look, you can see children playing these games. They play on buses and trains, in restaurants and even at school.
Video games are educational, too. They make kids think in a creative way and they have to move their hands and eyes quickly. This can improve the way that a child’s brain works. What’s more, video games make children use their imagination. The player has to do many creative things, like drawing, telling stories and building things. Video games are also good for children to learn about technology because they can learn how computers and other devices work while they play.
However, a recent study suggests that video games can also be bad for children. First, children can download many games for free. This means that parents often don’t know if their children are playing violent (暴力的) or scary games. Second, many children spend too much time playing games on computers and this can lead to health problems. Third, if children spend too much time playing games instead of doing homework, they can have problems at school and get bad grades. Finally, video games can affect children’s social skills. If children spend too much time playing video games by themselves, they might not learn how to play with their friends.
In conclusion, it seems clear that video games have some advantages and some disadvantages. Parents should know what games their children are playing and how much time they spend on them. Parents should also make sure their children get enough exercise and spend time with other children.

There might not be anything cooler in the whole ocean than a coral reef (珊瑚礁)! Did you ever wonder how a coral reef forms? Tiny animals called coral polyps (珊瑚虫) are responsible for the formation of coral reefs. The coral polyps attach (依附) to rocks or other hard surfaces. When they die, they harden. Then new coral polyps grow on top of them. This makes the reef expand. In fact, coral reefs are always growing. They grow about 1-2 cm per year.
Coral polyps eat algae (海藻) and other tiny animals. The algae get their food from the sun. Because sunlight can only make a way into shallow (浅的) water, the algae and coral polyps live in shallow water. This is where coral reefs generally form.
Coral reefs live all around the world. The biggest one is called the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is located off the northeast coast of Australia. It is 2,300 kilometers long. It can even be seen from outer space! Every year, the beautiful Great Barrier Reef attracts many scuba divers and tourists, about 2 million visitors per year.
Coral reefs are an important part of our planet. First of all, they are a home for many animals. They also protect shorelines (海岸线) against storms and floods. They can even provide us with the natural resources we need to make some kinds of medicine. However, many coral reefs are dying. Pollution and over-fishing are the main causes. And since coral reefs take a very long time to grow, they cannot grow fast enough to take the place of the damage (损害). As a result, the coral reefs around the world are starting to disappear. Some scientists predict that some day soon most of the coral reefs will be gone. That is why we have to take good care of them.
25. Where do coral reefs generally form?A.In the deep water. | B.In a quiet place without tiny animals. | C.In shallow water. |

Artificial intelligence (人工智能), or AI in short, is the science of giving computers and machines ability to think and work like humans. AI scientists and engineers have made a lot of cool technologies.
AI is rapidly catching up with the human ability to read faces. As a result, facial recognition (识别) is used a lot in the world. Chinese police use this technology to identify criminals (罪犯). Once they caught a criminal when he attended a concert. I also checks the ID of ride-hailing (网约车) drivers and lets people pay for things with a smile.
AI is also used in self-driving cars, which are believed to be the future of driving. Most drivers may wave or nod at passers-by to let them cross the street, but self-driving cars don’t have this ability. Carmakers are testing a light signal system to help them “speak” to humans. The system can show what self-driving cars will do. For example, if a driverless car is yielding (让路), it will flash two white lights side to side. A rapidly flashing light tells passers-by that the car is about to speed up.
Service Robots also show you how powerful AI is. Imagine this —you come back home from school and your robot housekeeper is waiting for you at the door. After dinner, he teaches you to play the piano, just like a real music teacher. Such thoughts will soon happen in the real world. In the future, more and more service robots will become good home helpers.
AI is so powerful that it can help human beings and even replace us in many jobs.
29. What does the underlined word “identify” mean in Paragraph 2 probably mean?A.To come to realize and tell who is who. |
B.To take somebody to the police station. |
C.To let somebody know his mistakes. |
A.waving to them | B.speaking to them | C.flashing lights |
A.Robots as ride-hailing drivers. |
B.Facial recognition for payment. |
C.Light signals for self-driving cars. |
A.People use AI in many different ways. |
B.AI will take the place of human beings in all jobs. |
C.Self-driving cars will be able to talk like humans. |

Known as the birthplace of kites, Weifang in Shandong province has a long history of making kites. According to local artisans (工匠), Weifang kite-making can be traced back to 2, 000 years ago. At first, they were often used by the army for measuring distance and communication purposes. During the Ming Dynasty (1368~1644), kites started to be popular among ordinary people as entertainment.
Yang Hongwei, 58, is an inheritor (传承人) of the Weifang kite-making technique. Born into a kite-making family, Yang often saw kites with bright colors and different shapes in her grandfather’s workshop. “Every time I see these beautiful kites, my boredom and negative feelings go away,” said Yang. Having a special connection with kites, Yang learned the skills from her grandfather at the age of 16. After practicing the skills for 10 years, she started her own shop in 1992.
On Yang’s kites, people can see not only common patterns like butterflies and swallows (燕子), but also some prints telling Chinese myths, legends and history. Though the idea was cool, the process was not easy. She said that she spent much effort and time checking historical records or discussing the details with experts. “It’s time-consuming,” Yang added, “but when I explain the stories on the kites to foreign customers, I feel a sense of great achievement.”
In her spare time, she also travels to different countries including Germany, Australia, the US and New Zealand to tell people about Chinese stories seen on kites and the traditional ways of making kites. “I’m an inheritor of the culture. It is also an important job of mine to spread the heritage around the world and onto the future,” she said.
57. Where is known as the birth place of kites?58. What were the kites used for at first?
59. How does Yang Hongwei feel when she sees the wonderful kites?
60. How long has Yang Hongwei had her own kite shop?
