Things like these are called electronic waste, or ewaste. Dealing with them is not an easy job. Every time an old computer breaks down, it needs to be dealt with safely. What is worse, at present, broken computer parts are usually buried. It may be hundreds of years before they really go in the earth.
Many places in China are polluted by e-waste. Guiyu in Guangdong Province is one of them. This town is named as “the ewaste capital of the world”. It has to deal with 1.5 million kilograms of ewaste each year, from which it makes 75 million yuan. But it comes at a cost. An environmental group has found the air, the earth and the rivers in Guiyu badly polluted.
Luckily, the Chinese government wants the country to change the situation. This year, China passed a new environmental protection law. Computer companies like Lenovo and Dell will be asked to take back their old computers. Hopefully, the problem with ewaste will be solved in the near future.

According to a survey by Tesco Mobile, a UK telecoms company(电子通信公司), the “dream job” of young people aged between 16 and 25 in the UK is a video blogger( 视频博主), or “vlogger”. The survey, carried out among 1,002 people, found that as many as 40 percent of them put “vlogger” as their number one choice on a list of ideal careers.
This change is undoubtedly the result of the Internet and social media(社交媒体). They have made it so much easier to reach audiences worldwide, without having to choose the job as actors in the traditional way.
“In years gone by, the biggest stars were trained by the Hollywood Studios; now, anyone with a computer camera can become an icon,” a Tesco Mobile spokesperson said. “Vloggers are the big stars of today because they are normal people interacting(互动) with their fans about everyday life.”
However, what people see is only the bright side of being a vlogger and they fail to notice the fact that only those who are successful can achieve fame and wealth. For every success there are a hundred others who have never been known.
This is why although vloggers are in fashion now, some young people chose to follow careers that don’t necessarily earn them fame, but allow them to make good use of the Internet to share their hobbies.

Taken as a whole, Earth is mainly blue. That is because of the amount of water it has that covers the surface.
So, how much of Earth is water? About 71% of Earth’s surface is covered in water. Of that 71%, the oceans hold 96.5% of the water. This water found in oceans is all salt water. The remaining 3.5% of the water is fresh water, which can be found in lakes, rivers, glaciers (冰川), and in the ground. Fresh water is what people use for farming, raising animals, drinking, and daily activities such as taking showers and washing clothes or dishes.
Does the amount of water stay the same? For the most part, yes. Water on Earth is part of a closed system. That is, water is always moving and changing forms between ice, liquid, and gas. The form of the water changes all the time, but the total amount of water on Earth remains the same.
If Earth is not necessarily running out of water, why are people worried? Why do we need to think about saving water? First, humans can only use fresh water, which is only 3.5% of all of Earth’s water. Second, of this 3.5%, only 1% is available for human use. Most fresh water is found in glaciers far from where anyone lives. Third, the amount of water that is useful for humans is being used faster than it can be cleaned and put back into the environment.
Now, knowing the facts about water, it is our job to make sure we use Earth’s water in a good way.
1. Where can 96.5% of the water on Earth be found?A.In oceans. | B.In lakes. | C.In glaciers. | D.In rivers. |
A.The amount of water becomes smaller. | B.The amount of water stays the same. |
C.The amount of water keeps changing. | D.The amount of water becomes larger. |

B.Most fresh water is found in the ground easily. |
C.Humans can’t use 2.5% of the fresh water freely. |

But some US cities have rules about who can go trick-or-treating. For example, in the cities of Meridian, Mississippi and Bishopville, South Carolina, kids above the age of 12 cannot go trick-or-treating. Why were these rules created? Something that is just for young children. Others point out that teenagers lose interest in trick-or-treating at a certain age anyway, and would prefer to go to a party with their friends instead.
I don’t quite remember when I stopped trick-or-treating. It was probably when I was in my early to mid-teens. So I guess these laws wouldn’t have bothered(困扰)me. But then again, I’m not sure if it’s “right” to stop older kids from trick-or-treating, especially if they work hard to put together a creative costurne.
And there could be some bad effects as well. Experts say that trick-or-treating has been welcomed in the US because it helped to cut down on teenage vandalism(破坏公物)in the past. If kids are busy getting candy, they won’t have time to play any tricks.

How are you? I have a good time living in my new neighborhood. There is a sports center in it. It's just in front of our house, so my father often goes there to swim. There is also a park in my neighborhood. It's not far from my school. I like to spend time there with my friends after school. But my favourite place is the zoo. To get there, I usually ride my bike for ten minutes.
On Friday evening, my parents and I usually eat out. There are three restaurants near my home. Mr. Green's restaurant is our favourite. Mr. Green is always friendly. The food is cheap and delicious. Lots of people like to have dinner there.
Can you come to see me when you're free? I'll show you around my neighborhood.

Michael

He was more than ten years old and was wearing one blue glove and one brown glove. His coat was too small for him.
As he walked away, I saw his shoes, which were too old to wear. I rolled down(摇下)my window and called him over. He stopped and turned around to look at me. I asked him if he needed some money. He replied, “No. That’s okay.” The parking area was wet. I could tell that his feet were cold because he kept moving his weight from one foot to the other. “Please,” I held out a five-dollar bill(纸币). “It’s not much, but when the money is shared, it is much more useful,” I said.
After hearing my kind words, he took off one of his gloves and reached for the money. His small hand was red and cold. He smiled and went away after saying “Thank you.” to me. That smile made me feel warm from the bottom of my heart in the cold winter.

You can not completely (完全) enter another country if not leaving your home behind. When you are abroad, do not always speak on your mobile phone to people at home or spend too much time on the Internet.
If you want to learn the language, you have to practise it. Because practice makes perfect.
If you have made a choice to study in a foreign country, forget your pride (骄傲) and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. It is natural for anyone to make mistakes when learning a new language. This is how we learn.
Be 10 times more polite than usual. People are more likely to be helpful and patient if you are nice and polite. If you are staying with a family, make sure to clean the room and make your bed, and always be polite when talking to them.
Try to get into the local society. School is important, but the cultural experience is also very important. We all like to get good grades and do well in school, but we can not fully understand the culture only in the classroom.
Do not waste your time. Everyone has bad days when they miss home. These days will pass. Remember that you are one of the few lucky people. Go and learn about the world and, most importantly, have fun.
