It might be fun to use your smartphone, but be careful. Too much screen time may be harmful to your health.
First, it is bad for your eyes. A researcher called Sarah Hinkley says the problem comes from the blue light that the screen gives out. Looking at a smartphone for a long time can cause eye strain(劳损), headaches and dry eyes. So it is a good idea to take a break every 15 minutes when you are working at a computer or using a smartphone.
Second, screen use can do harm to children’s brains. A new study shows that using screens too much can affect(影响) how children’s brains grow. If children use screens for more than one hour a day, they might have lower levels of white matter in their brains. White matter is a key to the development of language and reading skills. So it is wise to cut down the time of children using all kinds of screens.
Third, using screens too much will affect your sleep. According to a study, about 95% of the people between the ages of 13 and 64 use electronics before bed, especially the young people under 20. Doctors say that the light from those electronics at night may make you excited before you go to bed. Then it’s hard for you to get enough sleep. So you’d better turn off smartphones, TVs, and all other screens an hour before your bedtime.
To keep healthy, doctors and researchers strongly advise that you shouldn’t use screens for long hours.

Qian Bosi, 14
Parents should respect and protect their children’s privacy (隐私). Photos can show their kids’faces, places they’ve been to and other information. In these cases, parents can accidentally violate (侵犯) their kids’ privacy when sharing photos online. It’s not safe. Some people might use the photos for bad things. It’s hard to imagine what could happen. Parents should be more careful about this. Li Meiying, 14
Some parents like to share embarrassing photos of their kids online. For example, sometimes their kids are sleeping or crying in their pictures. But most kids don’t want these photos to be shared online. They may not care when they are little babies, but as they grow up, they might be upset about it. So to avoid hurting their children’s feelings, parents should ask for permission (允许) from their kids before sharing their photos online. He Meixi, 14
In my opinion, there’s nothing wrong about parents posting pictures of their babies online. It shows that they love their children – they just want to share pictures of their kids with their friends. Doing chores is good or bad for children.
So many parents don’t know if they should give chores to their children. But I have no trouble with that. I tried to ask my children to do some simple chores when they were only three years old. They had two chores at first.
Making Me Coffee
This needed them to count out 8 spoons of coffee beans (豆) into a coffee grinder (研磨机); then grind them for 20 seconds (they had to count slowly to 20). Next, they should pour the coffee grinds into the basket; count out 8 cups of water and pour it into the machine.
As you can see, there was a math exercise behind. As they grew older, the chore (making coffee) would become more difficult.
Cleaning the Dishes
Cleaning the dishes needed three steps in our house. I let one of my children brush the dishes. The other one washed the dishes with water carefully. And I would dry and put away the dishes. Through the cleaning, they could learn how to work together. In order to make the chore interesting, I even wrote a song called “Keep the Washing Going!” My children always felt excited when they sang the song with me.
At 11 years old, they now do chores such as cleaning the floors, taking out the rubbish and giving the dog a shower every day. What makes me happy is that they can have fun when doing chores on their own.

For nature lovers, there will soon be new places to visit. China has announced the list of its first five national parks.
National parks are large areas of public land. They are designed for the protection of ecosystems. They give a safe home to local plants and animals. They help keep the air and water clean.

It also helps to improve the visitor’s language ability,” said a teacher during a school meeting last term. “Students who wish to learn more about foreign cultures or to get foreign experience should join this kind of holiday. I am sure you won’t be disappointed.”
After this special meeting, I always thought about this kind of holiday. Last month, I had a chance at last to go on such a holiday with some of my schoolmates and we went to London, a place where I had wanted to go since years ago.
As we were still young, we had a group leader who planned things for us and looked after us. After we got to London, we went to stay with different families. I was lucky that my host family was a white couple who had a daughter about my age. They treated me as a daughter of their family during my stay there. They were interested in me and I learnt a lot of things from them, too.
The holiday was filled with activities every day. After breakfast, a local teacher would come to take us in his car. Then we would have classes or go on a sight-seeing trip to different places of interest like the Big Ben, the London Bridge, and the Buckingham Palace. We would go back to our own homes after the activities.

During the Warring States Period, the Qin army marched (进军) on Handan. Seeing that Handan was in danger, Prince Pingyuan asked for help from the state of Chu. He wanted to pick 20 talented people to go with him. However, he could only find 19 people who were good enough. Then, a man named Mao Sui volunteered.
Prince Pingyuan looked at Mao Sui with doubt, "How long have you been here with me?" "Three years," Mao Sui answered."I hear that a person with talent is like an awl (锥子) in a cloth bag. Its sharp point will soon pierce (戳) through the bag. You've been here for a long time, but I haven't seen any of your achievements. Maybe you don't have any talent."said Prince Pingyuan."What I'm asking you now is to put me into that bag. If you do that, I will pierce through it. But not only the point—the whole awl," Mao Sui said confidently.
Impressed, Prince Pingyuan allowed Mao to join his team, and Mao proved very helpful. Now the phrase "Mao Sui recommending himself" is used to describe someone who volunteers to do a task.
However, there is a fine line between self-confidence and arrogance (傲慢). It's important to believe in yourself, but a strong ego can harm your career and relationships.
