Almost every Chinese person can recite (背诵) the two lines of the famous poem, "Every grain on the plate comes from hard work ". But sadly, many of us don't actually get the real meaning of these lines: Don't waste food.
A CCTV program reported that the food Chinese people throw away every year is enough to feed 200 million people for a year. Do we have too much food? Of course not. According to the UN World Food Program, there were 925 million hungry people around the world in 2011, especially in developing countries. Six million children die of hunger every year.
Chinese people are well-known for being friendly and generous. Many even feel that they lose face if their friends have eaten all the food on the table. Luckily, a lot of people have realized the importance of saving food. What should we do in our daily lives to waste less food?
▲ Don't order too much in a restaurant. Only order as much as you want to eat. If you cannot eat all the food you ordered, take the rest of it home.
▲ Don't leave any food in your bowls while having meals.
▲ Don't buy too much food, especially for vegetables and fruit.

Show your power by setting a new record
Did you break any records (创下纪录) last week? Nov 14 was Guinness World Records Day. On this day, the Guinness World Records company encourages people around the world to set new records. For example, last year on this day, a boy from Xiamen named Que Jianyu set a record for the fastest time to solve (破解) a Rubik’s cube (魔方) while upside-down. His record time was 15.84 seconds.

One day, after I had given her dinner, she started crying for mum. She was so young and really needed mum. So I dressed her up, put on her shoes, carried her on my back and walked out. Soon she fell asleep.
About half an hour later, I found that she had lost a shoe while sleeping. I took her off my back and put her down. I knew we needed to find that shoe, for our mother couldn’t afford new shoes. I had to go back to find it, so I told my sister to wait right there.
A man heard it and stopped me just before I walked off. He asked me, “Are you leaving your sister here to find the shoe? What would you do if she is not here when you return?” I didn’t know how to answer that question. He continued, “It’s OK if you can’t find the shoe, but it is not OK to lose your sister”. Then he sent us to mum’s workplace by taxi .

The competitors vary in age, from teenagers to adults. Peng, 36, an associate senior editor (副主编) of a poetry magazine, is one of the most familiar (熟悉的) faces of the show. He can recite around 1,000 poems.
With a master's degree in literature, Peng is always the hot favorite to win the prize, but, surprisingly, he's lost two finals in a row-the second season he lost to a 16-year-old high school student, Wu Yishu, and in the third season he was beaten by deliveryman (送货员) Lei Haiwei.
He cried after losing the season three final, “I realized that if I compete and fail again, at least I've tried, but if I don't sign up, that means I'm more of a failure because I'm afraid of trying. Therefore, when season five came around, I decided to give it another go,” Peng recalls.
The season five final came down to Peng and 11-year-old Han Yaxuan-again he was facing a much younger rival. This time, though, there was to be no mistake and victory was finally his.
“I want to tell people who have a similar experience that, even though you go through all kinds of misfortune (不幸的) or difficulties, as long as you are brave enough to look up, there will always be a light in the sky to guide you out of the darkness,” Peng said in his speech. “Thousands of years later, all of our shadows will vanish, only the beauty of poems will last.”
