Experts say this park has the greatest number of arches of any similar geographic area in the world. Arches are formations that look like half a circle above an opening or hole in a rock. Arches can also appear as curved bridges between two large rocks.
Scientists say the area began forming almost two thousand million years ago. As time passed, the area filled with material left by rivers. Other rocks buried the area. Then great pressure deep in the Earth created huge mountains.
A soft rock called sandstone began moving under this pressure. The sandstone moved upwards when it met other, harder rocks. These sandstone structures continued to grow for about one hundred fifty million years.
Arches developed from thin rock walls. They resulted when pieces of sandstone fell away from the formations. Scientists say water is the most important element in creating arches. Water destroys the chemicals that keep rock particles together. The rock breaks as the water freezes and expands. Then the wind blows away the loose rock particles.
Scientists say that most arches seen today developed within the past million years. But they say the land formation continues to change slowly over time. New arches form. Older ones fall away.
The rock formations in Arches National Park are mostly a deep red color. Rocks get their color from minerals. The red color is the result of iron oxide or rust (铁锈).Scientists say the presence of iron in the rock shows that the weather was hot and dry when the rock was first formed.

This is China’s Shenzhou XIV mission, the ninth manned spaceflight(载人航天飞行)for China, according to China Daily. The astronauts will stay 400) kilometers above the Earth for six months. During the Shenzhou XIII mission on Tiangong, astronauts tested many key technologies. This was to help the proper “construction team(施工队)”, the Shenzhou XIV crew, to complete the building of Tiangong.

Once completed, the station will form a T-shaped structure.
The crew will also enter the two space labs for the first time. They will install equipment(安装仪器) and do scientific experiments. They will also do two to three spacewalks. We can also look forward to fun lectures given by the astronauts!
When their mission is completed around the end of this year, the Tiangong space station will become fully operational. The crew will meet another three astronauts from the Shenzhou XV mission. The six astronauts will work together for five to 10 days inside Tiangong, before the Shenzhou XIV crew fly back to Earth in December.

In this challenge, young competitors must write Chinese characters by hand. To prepare for the competition, the competitors usually spend months studying dictionaries.
Perhaps the show’s popularity should not be a surprise. Along with gunpowder (火药) and paper, many Chinese people consider the creation of Chinese calligraphy to be one of their primary contributions to civilization. Unfortunately, all over the country, Chinese people are forgetting how to write their own language without computerized help. Software on smart phones and computers allows users to type in the basic sound of the word using the Latin alphabet (拉丁字母表). The correct character is chosen from a list. The result? It’s possible to recognize characters without remembering how to write them.
But there’s still hope for the writing brush. China’s Ministry of Education wants children to spend more time learning how to write.
In one Beijing primary school we visited, students practice calligraphy every day inside a specially decorated classroom with traditional Chinese paintings hanging on the walls. They look up at the blackboard often to study their teacher’s examples before carefully attempting to reproduce those characters on thin rice paper. “If adults can survive without using handwriting, why bother to teach it now?” we ask the calligraphy teacher, Shen Bin. “The ability to write characters is part of Chinese tradition and culture,” she reasons. “Students must learn now so they don’t forget when they grow up,” says the teacher.

Some may use this freedom to share less time with certain friends or family members, but the new technology will also let them communicate more with those they care most about. I know this from personal experience.
Email makes it easy to work at home. I spend most weekends and evenings at home. My working hours aren’t much shorter than they once were but I spend fewer of them at the office. This lets me share more time with my young daughter than I might have if she’d been born before email became such a practical tool.
The Internet also makes it easy to share ideas with a group of friends. Say you do something fun — see a great movie perhaps and there are four or five friends who might want to hear about it. If you use a telephone to call each one, you may tire of telling the story. With email, you just write one note about your experience, at your convenience, and send it to all the friends you think might be interested. They can read your message when they have time, and read only as they want to. They can reply at their convenience, and you can read what they have to say at your convenience.
Email is also an inexpensive way to communicate with people who live far away. More than a few parents use email to communicate with their children at college every day.
We just have to keep in mind that computers and Internet offer another way of communicating. They don’t take the place of any of the ways.
1. The use of email has made it possible for the writer to________.A.spend more time at the office | B.spend much less time working |
C.have more free time with his child | D.work at home all weekends and evenings |
A.The user can send much more information than the telephone. |
B.The user can keep the communication as personal as possible. |
C.The user can communicate with the friends faster than the telephone. |
D.The user can send messages to a group of people almost at the same time. |
A.方便 | B.信心 | C.自由 | D.忙碌 |
A.Email is not an expensive way to communicate with people far away. |
B.Computers and the Internet make communication more convenient. |
C.Email makes it easier for people to live at home and work at the office. |
D.Computers and the Internet are useful tools to keep good friendship. |

It brings the nation together to explain why it's so good to move, highlighting the role that physical activity plays in helping us lead healthier and happier lives.
Physical inactivity has been listed as a leading cause of illnesses. However, according to a report by ukactive, adults in the UK spend eight times longer watching TV than exercising. That's why National Fitness Day wants to open a national conversation about the advantages of physical activity, both to the individual and to society as a whole.
Being more active helps improve our physical health. It is also good for our mental health. Held yearly during the European Week of Sport (taking place every year from September 23 to September 30), National Fitness Day made more than four million people active on the day last year, from school classes to workplaces across the UK.
In 2020, thousands of clubs, parks, sports centers and gyms will open their doors to welcome everyone to get active. If you manage to come out of your house, go to an open space like a garden or a park where you will be a lot safer. If you live quite some floors above in your building, try to find a place near a bulky object such as a bed. Curl up (蜷缩) and sit on the floor and make sure you are not near a window, fireplace, gas stove and so on. Remember don’t use lifts or escalators.
Some people say you should stand on a doorway. That is not true. If the doorway jambs (侧壁) are weak, they might fall on you. Also if people want to pass through that door, you may stop them. Leave all doorways free.
Another important thing to keep in mind is that you mustn’t climb down the stairs during an Earthquake. If the tremors (震动) stop, after a few seconds, just climb down the stairs as quickly as you can and move out of the building, but don’t run.
Earthquakes usually destroy gas pipes and electrical wires. Turn off the main gas. And don’t light candles or lighters and create an even bigger disaster.

The leaf said, "The wind just told me that one day it will pull me off!" When the tree heard this, it swung all over and promised the leaf, "You will not go till you want to."
The sunny days of the autumn came. The little leaf saw all the leaves around becoming very beautiful. Some were yellow, some were red, and some were in both colors. The little leaf asked the tree what it meant. The tree said, "All these leaves are ready to fly away, and they have put on these beautiful colors because of joy."
The little leaf wanted to go, and grew very beautiful in thinking of it. When it was very bright in color, it saw the branches (树枝) of the tree had no color in them. The leaf asked, "Branches, why are you brown?" "We must keep our working clothes on. Your clothes are for holiday, because your tasks are over," said a branch.
