After watching my mother deal with our family of five, I can’t understand why her answer to the question, “What do you do?”, is always, “Oh, I’m just a housewife.” JUST a housewife? Anyone who spends most of her time in preparing meals, washing and drying clothes, keeping the house clean, playing the part of a taxi driver to us kids when it’s time for school, music lessons or the dentist, doing volunteer work for her favorite charity, and making sure that all our family needs are met is not JUST a housewife. She’ s the real Wonder Woman. Why is it that so many mothers like mine think of themselves as second-class or something similar? Where has this notion(观念) come from? Have we males(男性) made them feel this way? Has our society made “going to work” outside the home seem more important than what a housewife must face each day?
I would be very curious(好奇的) to see what would happen if a housewife stopped working. Dishes would pile up. Food in the house would run out. No meals would appear on the table. There would be no clean clothes when needed. The house would be filled with rubbish. Walking and bus riding would increase. Charities would be in great need of help. I doubt if the man of the house would be able to take over(接手). Oh, he might think that he can do just as good a job, but how long would that last? Not long, once he had to come home each night after work to more household duties. There would be no more coming home to a prepared meal; he’d have to fix it himself. The kids would all be crying for something to eat, clean clothes and more bus fare money. Once he made the kids quiet, he’d have to clean the house, go shopping, make sure that kids got a bath, and fix lunches for the next day. Once the kids were down for the night, he might be able to crawl(爬行) into an unmade bed and try to read the morning newspaper.
No, I don’t think many males are going to volunteer for the job. I know I don’t want it. So, thanks, mom! I’ll do what I can to create a national holiday for housewives. It might be called Wonder Woman Day.

Ally’s father died last summer. It wasn’t fair, Ally thought. Dad was young and had never been sick. Why had his heart suddenly stopped? Ally sank slowly into her father’s favorite chair and looked at his picture on the bookcase. Ally smiled. “I miss you, Dad,” she said softly.
She felt a hand smoothing her hair and looked up. “Why don’t you come outside with me, Ally?” her mother asked. “The birds are nesting(筑巢) in the woods. By this time last year you’d already taken dozens of pictures.”
But her mother must know birdwatching wouldn’t be the same this year. How could it be? Ally wondered. Ever since she could remember she and Dad had been a team, searching the woods for the special wood warbler. “I’ll be out in a while, I promise,” she answered.
After her mother left, Ally reached for the photo album she and Dad had put together. On the cover was a photo of a tiny orange bird with blue-gray wings and black eyes. Dad cut it from a local newspaper. Ally smiled, remembering the excited look on Dad’s face when he showed her the pretty bird.
“I can’t believe someone spotted(发现) this little guy way up here in New Jersey,” he said. “Wood warblers are usually found in the south, not this far north. I bet if we search real hard, Ally, we’ll see this little guy together someday.”
Ally closed her eyes. She loved thinking about the times she and Dad had spent searching the woods for the little bird. They’d never spotted the warbler, but her father had an amazing way of making each outing seem special. He was her best friend, and when they were together Ally felt comfortable, as she did when she had her favorite blue sweatshirt on. …

When I was younger, I thought sound was very important to us as humans, so I said, "My ears, Mommy. "She said, "No. Many people are deaf. But you keep thinking about it and I will ask you again soon. "
Several years passed before she asked me again. Since making my first attempt, I had contemplated(仔细考虑)the right answer. So this time I told her, "Mommy, sight is very important to everybody, so it must be our eyes. "She looked at me and told me, "You are learning fast, but the answer is not right because there are many people who are blind. "
Over the years, Mother asked me a couple more times and always her answer was, "No, but you are getting smarter every year, my child. "
Then last year, my grandpa died. Everybody was very hurt. Everybody was crying. My mom looked at me when it was our turn to say our final good-bye to Grandpa. She asked me, "Do you know the most important body part yet, my dear?"
I was surprised when she asked me this now. I always thought this was a game between her and me. She saw the confusion(迷惑)on my face and told me, "This question is very important. It shows that you have really lived your life. "I saw her eyes well up with tears. She said, "My dear, the most important body part is your shoulder. "
I asked, "Is it because it holds up our head?"
She replied, "No, it is because it can hold the head of a friend or loved one when they cry. Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometimes in life, my dear. I only hope that you have enough love and friends so that you will have a shoulder to cry on when you need it. "
Then and there I knew the most important body part is not a selfish one. It is care for the pain of others.

Yellow became the color of school buses in the USA in 1939. Dr. Frank got the good idea. He said it was easy for people to see yellow buses and the black letters on them in early morning or late afternoon. That would make children safer.
There are not many school buses in Britain, and they are not yellow. They have trackers(追踪器)on them. The trackers let parents know where the school bus is and whether their kids are on the bus.
Kindergarten(幼儿园)is a difficult time for some kids. It’s the first time for them to go away from their parents. To make kids love their school, Japanese kindergartens and schools have colorful buses. Robots Are Now Teaching English! Get ready. Robots are about to invade our classroom. From Korea to Japan to the United States, schools are putting English-speaking robots in front of their students. In Korea, robots are the new teaching assistants in a number of preschools and kindergartens. The young students say that the robots are fun, but are these children really learning anything? I don't think a computer will ever be able to do what a teacher does. A teacher has to be able to respond to students as individuals (个体) . | |
Sara says: In my opinion, schools should spend money training human teachers rather than buying robots. Research shows that children learn more from real speakers than from recorded conversations. Keiko says: I don't think you can learn a language without real human interaction. After all, robots cannot think as humans do. Hassan says: Robots might be able to help people learn a language, but I don't think they should replace teachers because robots are just machines without human feelings. My middle school gym teacher introduced me to micro-habit in the form of weight lifting. He said, “Imagine weightlifting as stacking up pieces of paper. Every day you lift weights, just pretend like you're adding a piece of paper to a pile. On the first day, you start with one single piece of paper. After a month of weight lifting, you could have as many as 30 sheets of paper stacked up. After several years of keeping up with weight lifting, you are going to have a serious pile of paper!”
The idea has stuck with me ever since, and I have tried to develop a number of micro-habits. These micro-habits have shaped the way I live and have helped me do things I wouldn't have been able to do otherwise.
The first habit I started with was reading. I have never been a big reader but decided I wanted to start reading more to learn new things. At first, I began reading one page a night before bed. Just one page, that’s it! Anyone can read a single page of a book. No matter what, I would read before bed every single night. What I found was reading the page of the book wasn’t what was important, but rather forming the habit. It’s nearly impossible to make an excuse not to take a minute for reading a page of a book. Thus, the habit begins to form. Sometimes it is a struggle, but remember — it’s only one page. Finally, by adding only five minutes at a time, I am able to increase the total amount of reading from five minutes to forty-five minutes per night.
The beauty of micro-habits is that they’re so simple, you can’t say no to them or make any excuse not to follow through with them. As humans, we often overvalue what we think we can complete, but then we give up the moment reality. Micro-habits are all about preventing you from giving up due to something being too ‘hard’. When practicing consistently, you can do something without even having to think about it. Micro-habits you probably already fixed into your daily life include brushing your teeth, taking a shower, making a morning cup of coffee, etc.
Pick something you want to do and improve on. Then find out the micro-habits you can start today to help you reach your goal, and eventually achieve your dream.

B.why micro-habits are beautified |
