Animals are part of the earth. But many of them are in danger. What should we do to help save them? In fact, it’s not as difficult as we think.
Be a vegan. Going vegan means that you don’t eat, wear or use anything that comes from an animal. Just by going vegan, you’ll save the lives of more than 100 animals every year. Is that great? So do it now!
Don’t watch animals for fun. Animals live for their own reasons (原因), not to bring us fun. Lots of animals are against their natural living places. And people will never allow them to play with their family or do anything they want to do in the wild. To stop these, never go to a zoo, movie or circus that uses animals.
Volunteer(志愿) at your local animal reserve(自然保护区). The animal reserve is always a great help to animals. Whether you walk dogs, clean their houses or put up notices of saving animals, you are helping them. Call your local reserve and ask if it needs any help. You can make a big difference in the life of some animals!
Tell your friend. Share with your friends why you want to help animals and ask them to join you. The more help with animals there is, the better they get!

It means to treat the child as really one’s equal, that is, to show him the same consideration, the same kind of confidence one shows to an adult. It means not to affect the child to be what we ourselves want him to become, but to be affected by the impression of what the child himself is; not to treat the child with cheating, or by force, but with the seriousness and true love suitable to his own character.
Not leaving the child in peace is the greatest problem of present methods of training children. Parents do not see that during the whole life, the need of peace is never greater than an inner peace under all outside liveliness in the years of childhood.
But what does a child experience? Corrections, orders, interference (干涉), the whole livelong day. The child is always required to leave something alone, or to do something different, to find something different, or to want something different from what he does. He is always guided in another direction from the true inner will that is leading him. All of this is caused by our so-called enthusiasm in directing, advising, and helping the child to become the same model produced in one assembly line (流水线). Understanding, the deepest characteristic of love, is almost always absent.
To bring up a child means carrying one’s soul in one’s hand; it means never placing ourselves in danger of meeting the cold look on the face of the child. It means the truth that the ways of injuring the child are limitless while the ways of being useful to him are few. How seldom does the educator remember that the child, even at four or five years of age, has already had a sharp feeling! The smallest mistrust and unkindness, the least act of injustice, leave wounds that last for life in the heart of the child. While, on the other hand, unexpected friendliness and kindness make quite a deep impression on those soft senses.

Some animals don’t fly away. They make some changes (改变) for the winter. Red foxes (狐狸) usually eat fruit and it is their favourite food. But in winter they change and eat small animals such as mice.
Some animals eat little or no food in winter. Before winter comes, they eat, eat and eat. Then they get fat. When winter comes, they take a very long sleep. Black bears do this. Before the sleep, black bears make warm beds with leaves and grass. They can sleep for about seven months without food!

The Wildlife Park has lots of different animals and birds. Some are native(当地的) to Australia and can only be found there. There are more than 500 animals there, including kangaroos(袋鼠),koalas and crocodiles(鳄鱼).They are kept in their natural environment. I like the Wildlife Park better than a zoo. In zoos, most of the animals are in cages.
We first spent some time with the kangaroos. We could touch and feel them. It was very exciting to be so close to them. There were koalas there too. They looked very cuddly(令人想拥抱的). Although we couldn't carry koalas, I could take a photo with one. It is a wonderful souvenir(纪念品) of my holiday in Sydney.
The Wildlife Park has plenty of freshwater crocodiles and saltwater crocodiles. Some of them are very big and scary(吓人的)with huge teeth! I did not want to get too close to them.

Tracy took photos of the dog and printed 400 FOUND fliers(传单), and put them in mailboxes. At the same time, Ann went to buy some food for the dog. She told her two sons not to fall in love with the dog. Ann’s son Thomas was 10 years old, and Jack, who was recovering(恢复)from a heart operation(手术), was 21 years old.
Four days later Ann was still taking care of the dog, and they started to call it Riley. When she arrived home from work, the dog hit itself against the door and barked loudly at her. “Without it, Jack would have died,” Ann reported to a local newspaper. By now, no one called to ask for the dog, so Ann wanted to keep it.
The next morning Tracy got a call. A man named Peter recognized his lost dog and called the number on the flier. Tracy started crying, and told him, “That dog saved my friend’s son.”

【推荐2】Recently, there were two pieces of sad news. An old gorilla(大猩猩) called Sentai was seriously ill because some visitors fed it food. Another poor animal, a deer, died with 3.5 kilograms of plastic bags in her stomach. The two poor animals remind people of the most basic rule in a zoo again: Do not feed animals.
Visitors often throw food like peanuts and bread to animals. They think it’s kind for them to feed the animals. However, it’s not good for the animals and may cause them to become sick.
“Imagine if someone often gives your children snacks and sweets. Would your children have healthy food as usual? This act can lead children to ignore(忽视) the healthy food. This is the same to animals,” Zhang, an animal expert in Beijing, told the Global Times.
Poor Sentai’s condition makes many people feel angry, and some people advise zoos to do more than just stop visitors when they feed animals. Some even advise the zoos to make a “blacklist” to keep those visitors out. However, it is very difficult for a zoo to do this job. A worker in Shanghai Zoo says that workers in the Zoo will correct people’s mistakes and try to improve public awareness(意识) to stop this act.
Some people said that after hearing the news, they felt sorry for feeding animals at the Zoo. Others said the were surprised to find that their “kind acts” could actually harm the animals.
We human beings can express our feelings when we feel ill or uncomfortable, but this is impossible for animals. So it’s important for visitors to protect the animals by not feeding them.

Well, when a rabbit sees something dangerous, it runs away. Its tail moves up and down as it runs. When the other rabbits see this tail moving up and down, they run, too. They know that there is danger. The rabbit has told them something without making a sound. It has given them a signal—that gives others information.
Many other animals use this kind of language. When a bee has found some food, it goes back to its home. It cannot tell the other bees where the food is by speaking to them, but it does a little dance in the air. This tells the bees where the food is. Some animals say things by making sounds. A dog barks(犬吠)when a stranger comes near. A cat purrs(哺哺叫)when it feels pleased. Some birds make several different sounds, each with its own meaning.
But man has something that no animal has—a large number of words about things, actions, feelings or ideas. We are able to give each other information, to tell other people what is in our mind or how we feel. By writing words down we can remember the things that have happened, or send messages to people far away. No animal can do this. No animal has the wonderful power of language. No one knows how man learned to make words. Man, however, learned to make them. As centuries went by, man made more and more new words. This is what we mean by language.
Today there are about 1.5 thousand different languages in the world. But we don’t know all these. We should try to make our vocabulary(词汇)larger. Read as many books as possible.

The Ultra Ironman Triathlon Race (超长铁人三项比赛) is considered one of the most challenging sporting events in the world. Competitors swim, ride a bike, and run. The race is made up of a 3. 86-kilometer swim, a 180. 25-kilometer bicycle ride, and a 42. 2-kilometer run. There are no breaks during the race, so competitors must keep going no matter what. People who choose to enter this race must be healthy and prepared in both mind and body.
There are several rules for those who want to compete in the Ultra Ironman Triathlon Race. The minimum age of racers is 18, so everyone who competes is an adult. Training for the Ironman can take more than a year. People who train often start practicing the events at shorter distances first and then increase the amount of length and time they swim, bike, and run. Training can be difficult because people need to find a balance of strength and endurance (忍耐力) training. Without enough training, people can get harmed. Some people even put on weight when training because their bodies store calories (卡路里) instead of using them for energy. All people in training should drink plenty of water.
In the past 40 years, the Ironman has developed from a single race into a global (全球的) movement. Today’s Ironman races have events of different distances and racers of different ages. Since 2008, Weihai has held the Ironman Triathlon Race once a year. Weihai Triathlon Sports Association (威海铁人三项运动协会) was founded in2011. The 2014 World Triathlon Championships (世界铁人三项锦标赛) was held in Weihai, which was the first time that the event was held in an Asian city.

What should we expect to find in a real newspaper? Interesting political articles? Accurate reports of what has been happening in distant comers of the world? The latest news from the stock exchange? Full coverage of great sporting events? In-depth interviews with leading personalities?
It is a sad fact that in Britain the real newspapers, the ones that report facts, sell in thousands, while the popular papers that set out to shock or amuse have a circulation of several million. One’s conclusion is that the vast majority of British readers do not really want a proper newspaper at all. They just want a few pages of entertainment.
I buy the same newspaper every day. In this paper political matters, both British and foreign, are covered in full. The “leader” column may support government policy on one issue and oppose it on another. There is a full page of book reviews and another devoted to the latest happenings in the theatre, the cinema and the world of art. Stock exchange prices are quoted daily. So are the exchange rates of the world’s major currencies. The sports correspondents are among the best in the country, while the standard of the readers’ letters is absolutely first class. If an intelligent person finds a copy of this paper 50 years from now, he or she will still find it entertaining, interesting and instructive.
So, my favorite newspaper is obviously very different from those popular ones that have a circulation of several million. But that does not mean that it is “better” or that they are “worse”. We are not comparing like with like. A publisher printing a newspaper with a circulation of several million is running a highly successful commercial operation. The people who buy his product are obviously satisfied customers and in a free society everybody should have the right to buy whatever kind of newspaper he pleases.
