On October 26, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress reviewed a draft revision( 修订草案) to the law on the protection of minors ( 未成年人) for the first time, China Daily reported. The draft includes a number of new and improved rules to strengthen the protection of minors.
One focus is bullying. A survey of primary and middle school students showed that more than 32 percent of students have experienced bullying at school, Global Times reported.
The draft asks schools to set up rules to prevent bullying and to report any bullying events to parents. They are also being asked to work with the government when dealing with such incidents.
The draft also includes a new part- Internet Protection. It aims to protect children when they're online. For example, it says that places that provide internet services for teenagers, such as schools and libraries, should have protective software (软件) on their computers.
It also asks online game providers to sort through their products and do something to keep minors away from games that are not suitable for them.
The draft revision has been widely welcomed. As the law on the protection of teenagers was revised (修订) in 2006 last time, it was found to have difficulties solving certain problems that are more common today.
"The draft revision meets the society's needs in time," Zhang Jie, a researcher at the Communication University of China, told Xinhua.

Zoe White (New York City, the US) | A survey shows that learning to write by hand is the key to good spelling and writing skills. And cursive writing could be considered an art from all on its own. It’s one way for students to develop the side of their brain that isn’t developed by basic reading and writing. |
Keith N. Kerman (Ottawa, Canada) | Cursive shouldn’t be taught in schools anymore. It’s a waste of time. The letters are so difficult to write that almost nobody is able to do it well. And in the modern age, why should cursive still exist when people like to contact each other by computer and phone? Besides, who cares about cursive? |
Li Lei (Shanghai, China) | Cursive looks more beautiful. Some parts are wide, while some parts are narrow. That will catch people’s eyes. You can write in cursive faster because nearly all letters can be finished in one line. Your pen doesn’t stop. Cursive can let your thoughts flow. |
Spriha Pradeep (Mumbai, India) | Learning cursive can take away time from subjects we learn every day. What’s worse, it’s harder for people to read. With the development of technology, we write less and less, let alone cursive writing. There’s no reason to teach students a skill that they won’t use in the future. |

I work part-time in a supermarket across from a building for the elderly. These old people are our main customers, and it’s not hard to lose patience over their slowness. But last Sunday, one aged gentleman appeared to teach me a valuable lesson. This untidy man walked up to my register(收款机) with a box of biscuits. He said he was out of cash(现金), had just moved into his room, and had nothing to eat. He asked if we could let him have the food on trust. He promised to repay me the next day.
I couldn’t help looking at him seriously. I wondered what kind of person he had been ten or twenty years before, and what he would be like if luck had gone his way. I had a hurt in my heart for this old gentleman, all alone in the world. I told him that I was sorry, but store rules didn’t allow me to do so. I felt stupid and unkind saying this, but I valued my job.
Just then, another man, standing behind the first, spoke up. If anything, he looked even poorer. “Charge it to me,” was all he said.
What I had been feeling was pity. Pity is soft and safe and easy. Compassion, on the other hand, is caring in action. I thanked the second man but told him that was not allowed, either. Then I reached into my pocket and paid for the biscuits myself. I reached into my pocket because these two men had reached into my heart and taught me compassion.

C.I did want to keep my present part-time job by following the rules |

B.he was touched and became caring |

Free lodging ( 免费住宿) is provided in China, but only if you speak English. Visitors hoping to visit China will get free lodging in Chinese homes__________.
A Chinese organization called Tour boarding started this activity last month. Visitors must speak at least two hours of English a day in return for their stay while their Chinese hosts can learn English from them for free.

Travelers can choose to exchange their learning skills for free living, tour guiding or even Chinese cooking lessons. Yang Yang, 16, a female student in Shanghai advertises her house. At the end of the day's trek, we sat around a campfire and talked about the things we saw. Then we went to sleep in large tents. Every morning, our guide brought breakfast to our tent. I was great.
