Cooking should be considered as art just like any other activity which requires skills and knowledge. It is often said that students are supposed to learn scientific facts as well as how to prepare meals. The following will explain why cooking should be taught in schools.
Cooking is an important skill in life.
Schools are supposed to teach knowledge to the students so that they can lead successful independent lives when they are out of school. Also, they can step into the world knowing how to make a living.
Cooking helps discover future career.
When schools offer cooking lessons, students will show an interest in it and might take cooking as a career. This will give them the chance to perfect their basic skills and be creative in the kitchen.
Cooking avoids wasting money.
One of the main reasons why cooking should be taught in schools is that the students always use a lot of money to buy ready-made food, while in the real sense they could prepare a nice meal with less cost by buying the required ingredients.
Cooking betters math learning.
Schools do not just teach how to prepare delicious meals. Students are also taught to follow the instructions in a standard when mixing ingredients. If it is, ‘add 1/4 spoon of salt,’ students should only add that amount. So there is no more or less.

In Western countries, it's quite common to greet close friends or relatives with a hug. Why not learn from them? Start now and experience the magic behind a hug. For example, you can hug your teammates after winning a basketball game to share the joy. Of course, it's natural people in different countries to have different opinions when it comes to hugging.
In China, it's not common for people to hug each other when they meet. After coming to China, I've noticed that people are generally less willing(愿意的)to hug than people in my home country, the US. My Chinese friends tell me that hugging is believed to be very intimate(亲密的)in their culture. It usually happens between people who are really close to each other, like couple. Chinese people don't usually hug in public, either.
But people's ideas about hugging can change. I watches a video story years ago. In the video a "hugging party" was held in Shanghai. A local artist organized the party, inviting strangers and asking them to hug each other. The Chinese people who took part in the activity clearly looked uncomfortable. However, after the party, several of them changed their minds. They found that they shouldn't be awkward(尴尬的). So next time you see your mom or dad, give them a hug and see how it makes you feel.

WHEN was the last time you used an emoji ? For many of you, the answer is “just now”! Indeed, the cute little pictures have become an important part of our digital lives. But think twice the next time you send out an emoji – the wrong one may get you in hot water
A 12-year-old girl from Virginia, US learned this lesson the hard way. She faced charges for using gun, bomb and knife emojis in a post on Instagram, a photo-sharing website, in December. She had to appear in a court for threatening the school and computer harassment (骚扰) last month, reported The Washington Post.
The girl’s mother said her daughter was a good kid and that the post was a response to bullying (欺凌). It’s not clear whether the case has already been solved, since the hearings (听证) were not open to the public.
There will be more and more of these cases as emojis continue to spread around the world. Last year, 6 billion emojis and other similar pictures were sent every day, according to the UK-based mobile technology company SwiftKey.
While the courts get ready to struggle with upcoming cases with emojis, do you agree that we should start using the icons more carefully?
1. What is an emoji?2. Why did she have to appear in a court?
3. What do you think of the girl’s behaviour? Why?
This summer holiday, some of you might have spent a lot of time playing video games online. However, you won’t be able to do this anymore. On August 30th, 2021, the government cut online gaming time for minors(未成年人)to avoid gaming addiction(沉迷).
A new notice says that game companies can only offer one hour of service to minors from 8 p.m.to 9 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The companies must also make sure that users register(注册)and log in(登录)with their real names. Under earlier rules, minors could play online games for 1.5 hours on any day and three hours a day on holidays. But many parents have called for even stricter rules.
When the rules come out, some people support them, while others are surprised at how strict the rules are. Some people think that teenagers can hardly control themselves, so there should be some rules to guide them. Others also show their worries that if kids use their parents’ logins, what should we do?
Teenagers are the future of a country. Protecting their physical and mental health is important. Parents and schools need to let them know more about the related(相关的)laws and rules.

A New Standard The Ministry of Education (MOE) brought out a new standard (标准) for labor education in 2022. Students have to take courses in labor skills at least once a week. The standard has three tasks: everyday chores such as cleaning, organizing and cooking; agricultural labor like growing vegetables and service such as volunteer work. | An Interview with a Parent Liu Fang Q: Do you want to train your child to do the housework? L: Yes, I like this new course. Though my son Toby is only 8 years old, I have trained him to do simple house chores. Doing housework can train his time management skill. Q: Did all your family members support your idea? L: No, his grandparents are against it. They think Toby is too young to cook or clean for himself. Because he can’t do them well and may hurt himself. After I talked with them several times, they agreed to let him try first, but with adults’ help. Q: Does your child like doing housework? L: He didn’t like tidying up his toys first and always made the room in a mess. Now, he is used to organizing his own things. It seems he has fun doing chores. | |

In today’s world, it’s natural to feel tired sometimes during those long working days. Luckily, there are some things you can do to fight tiredness.
If you aren’t drinking plenty of water by now, you should! But remember that juice, soft drinks and the likes aren’t what you should drink if you are tired, because they are full of sugar that in fact causes you to lose much water from your body. Water is king, so make a habit to drink a glass of water whenever you feel tired. You can put a full glass of water next to you, you will remember to take a sip (啜一口) here and there throughout your activity. You’ll be surprised how quickly drinking water can get rid of your tiredness.
Sometimes you feel tired because you aren’t active, especially when you have to work at a computer or sit at a desk all day. Movement, any type of movement in exercise, can help you. Moving your body creates an increased blood flow which in return increases your energy and defeats (战胜) tiredness. Also it makes your breathe deeper and then you’ll be more energetic immediately. So, all that you need to do is just get up, stretch (伸展) a little bit, or walk around if you can.
Laughing a little can also help you fight your tiredness. You don’t have to laugh out loud. Simply finding something interesting is good. So start reading some jokes on the Internet, listen to some radio shows you like, or watch some funny videos on Youku. You will notice that once you start laughing, you won’t be tired any more.

It’s hard to turn down a tasty banana. They taste good and you don’t have to wash them before eating them. However, British scientusts say that the fruit may die out by 2050.
One reason for this is the weather change. Scientists at the University of Exeter collected numbers from 27 countries and places that produce 86 percent of the world’s bananas. They found that weather change has made growing conditions in 21 of these countries better. In the past 60 years, the average yield (平均产量) has reached 1.37 tons of bananas per hectare (每公顷).
However, if temperatures keep rising, this advantage will disappear. Ten of the countries, including India, the world’s biggest producer of bananas, will produce fewer bananas. By 2050, the fruit may die out.
Shouldn’t bananas grow more easily if it’s hotter outside? In fact, the perfect temperature for growing bananas is between 24°C and 32°C. If the temperature gets too high, they will stop growing.
Diseases are another danger to bananas. Unlike other plants, the bananas we grow come from shoot cuttings (茎段) rather than seeds. This means that all banana plants have the same genotype (基因型). In other words, if a disease is able to kill one plant, it could kill them all.
One serious disease is called Panama. Caused by fungus (真菌) in the soil, it spreads easily. It has spread across South Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Australia. If one banana farm catches the disease, it will take 30 years until it is able to grow bananas again. Have the scientists found a cure for this disease yet? No.
