Have you ever wanted to stop eating something sweet but you couldn’t? Can you eat a box of chocolate all by yourself?

Can you say “no” to sweets at parties? If you can’t, then perhaps you’re sugar addict (有瘾的人). Doctors say that people who often eat sweets can easily become addicted to sugar.

【推荐1】Children who eat three or more hamburgers a week are more likely to suffer from asthma(哮喘), researchers say. However, they say that the risk may not be caused by the meat-rich diet(饮食)itself, but by a lack of fresh fruit and vegetables.

The study looked at 50,000 children from 20 countries. Parents were asked about their children's eating habits and whether they had ever suffered from asthma. The effects of their diet seemed to be different depending on where they lived. Fruit and vegetables are more helpful in less affluent parts of the world, while eating lots of fish was more helpful in richer countries. Eating at least three hamburgers a week was linked to(与……有联系)a greater risk of asthma, but only in wealthier countries.

Dr Gabriele Nagel said different things may cause asthma in different parts of the world. “This gives us more understanding of how asthma affects(影响)different people, and its effects in developing countries as well as developed countries,” she said.

High levels of unhealthy fat in hamburgers could increase the risk of asthma. However, the researchers said children who ate several hamburgers a week were likely to have other unhealthy lifestyle habits as well.

Researchers said the study helped us understand how asthma and diet are connected. “Previous studies have shown that a diet rich in fruit and vegetables can help to reduce a child's risk of developing asthma symptoms,” Dr Elaine Vickers said. “Our advice to parents is to make sure that children have a healthy diet and also get plenty of exercise.”

2】①Most of us don’t talk about food until we start feeling hungry, but eating is important in life. To talk about food and eating is to talk about one of the most common subjects we know. Eating is just like breathing or sleeping, so everyday, and so ordinary. It does not receive much notice.

②However, what, where, when, how, and with whom we eat say a great deal about who we are. Do you use chopsticks? Do you hold the knife backward? Do you chew with your mouth open? All these eating habits say something about you. They are messages even when we are not trying to say anything. Food and the ways we eat it like clothes and the way we wear them, tell who and what we are.

③We learn our eating habits very early in life. We usually have strong feelings about our childhood foods. Foods we learn to like in our early years probably have a special meaning for us forever because they are connected to people and things we love. Mom’s cheese or the way Dad cuts the bread just right brings about feelings of love and comfort.

④People use food and eating to mark the seasons and the important moments in life (such as growing up and getting married), or to honor gods, and to say something about themselves. People will eat different foods for different holidays. Sometimes people ever explain why they eat certain things on certain days. Americans do that sort of explaining at Thanksgiving. They eat turkey corn, and Indian pudding because their ancestors (祖先) ate them at the first Thanksgiving. Those foods mean something to Americans.

⑤As you can see, food and eating mark people’s shared experiences but they can also mark the differences. In the sense, ________.

1. You can probably read the article from a magazine about _______.
A.travelingB.food and cultureC.clothes and fashion
2. Why do people have strong feelings about childhood foods?
A.Because the foods may be connected to the beloved people or things.
B.Because the cheese made by Mom and Dad tastes delicious.
C.Because people learn the eating habits very early.
3. Which of the following shows the proper structure of this passage?
A.①②/ ③④⑤B.①/ ②/ ③④/ ⑤C.①/ ②③④/ ⑤
4. What can be put into the ________?
A.we need to eat healthy food to keep fit
B.it’s the food that makes us different
C.we truly are what we eat
