Housework is a part of family life. To let children have more time to play, some parents don’t ask their kids to do housework. Others teach kids to do housework to make kids become independent (独立的). Then here comes a question: Should children help with housework? My answer is “yes” and the following are my reasons(原因).
Housework teaches kids life skills(技能). Many of the life skills are things that teachers do not teach. That makes learning to do housework become even more important.
Housework makes kids learn responsibility(责任) and independence. Living with their parents, they should know that every family member should do their part in keeping the house clean. After they do things by themselves, they won’t always ask their parents for help.
. When parents do housework, most children think it’s easy. Unless (除非) children try some housework themselves, they won’t know how hard their parents are. Therefore(因此), giving them housework may help this insight(深入理解) come quickly.
Housework help improve(提高) children’s planning skills. When children have homework, housework and out-door activities in a day, they need to decide what to do first. Then they will improve their planning skills. This will become more and more important when children get older and have more responsibilities at school and at home.
It’s true that studies are important for children, but it doesn’t mean that they need to spend all the time on their studies. At different ages, there is some housework that is right for children. Doing right housework can teach your child valuable(有价值的) lessons and they will last into his later years.

【推荐2】Fights at school sometimes happen. But how can you keep away from a fight? Here’s something you can do.
Be calm (冷静). Sometimes, you feel so angry that you really want to teach somebody a lesson. But being angry can’t solve problems. Neither can a fight. Instead, it may bring you more problems. In the school, everyone involved(卷入) in a fight will be punished, no matter who started it. There are no winners in a fight.
Shout loudly. If you know someone is coming up behind you to attack(攻击), turn toward the person with your hands up in front of your body and loudly say “stop” before walking away. Loud voice can make the attacker calm down. If the person doesn’t stop, cry for help by calling out the name of a teacher whose office is nearby.
Learn to refuse. Your friend may ask you to join in a fight. Learn to say no. Helping him fight is not really helpful to him. If you really want to give him a hand, try to ask him to give it up. The policy calls for reducing homework and after-school classes. According to the policy, children below the third grade will not have homework anymore. It should take no more than 90 minutes for middle school students to finish their homework. After-school training institutions (机构) are not allowed to offer advanced (超前的) teaching on weekends, holidays or during winter and summer vacations.
“Our homework is clearly less than before”, said 13-year-old Shen Yuzhe from Beijing. “We are not encouraged to buy workbooks anymore. The exercises are mainly from the textbook.” According to Shen, students have enough time to learn new knowledge now. “Our teachers are also giving us more chances to try out and learn from real life.” said Shen.
For 13-year-old Zhang Hangming from Tianjin, the best thing about “double reduction” is the increased time in after-school activities. “We can now spend more time taking part in clubs and activities, such as dancing, volleyball and instruments. I can learn all kinds of skills more than schoolwork.” Said Zhang.
Shen also pointed out that self-discipline (自律) becomes more important now. “Some students now spend more time having fun when homework is finished early. But if you use all the free time to relax, you might fall behind other students.” He said.

But the earliest boarding schools were set up for white, rich boys only. Now both boys and girls can go to boarding schools from the age of 7 to 18.
What to do
In the UK, boarding schools have three terms in a school year, with about 13 weeks in each term. Students study and live together. They can’t go outside if they are not allowed to. In some schools, each student has his or her subject plan. Besides the usual classrooms and laboratories, the boarding schools have lots of other facilities for their students, including music rooms, boats, swimming pools, cinemas and theaters.
Most boarding schools have a “light out” time. So when it’s time to go to bed, all the lights in the bedrooms are turned off. There are house masters to take care of students all the time, especially after school hours.
What to wear
Nearly all the students in boarding schools wear a school uniform. Boys usually wear a shirt and a tie, and girls wear a white blouse, sometimes also a tie and a skirt. As students get older, the rules become less strict.
________
In the UK, boarding schools provide students with delicious food. They can choose to have a full English breakfast or bread. Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu, who are working aboard the Tiangong space station, showed millions of students their life there. They also did some fun science experiments(实验). Let’s take a look at some of them.
Use it or lose it
The human body grows with the pull of Earth’s gravity (重力). But in space, our bones(骨头)and muscles(肌肉) don’t need to support our body’s weight. This will cause bone and muscle loss. Astronauts can lose up to 20 percent of their muscles after just a couple of weeks. That is dangerous for astronauts because they will be too weak to work.
Astronauts have different ways to prevent(阻止) this. They can wear a special uniform called a “penguin suit”. There are many elastic bands(弹力带) inside the suit. Wearing it astronauts use their muscles to pull the bands to keep their muscles strong. They can also walk on a treadmill(跑步机) and ride a bicycle. Astronauts exercise with these tools every day to prevent muscle loss.
Space water is different
During another experiment, Wang made a water film(膜). Then she added more water drops onto the film to make it a water ball. This can never happen on Earth. Why? It’s because of the surface tension (表面张力) of water, which is like a “skin” of water. One example on Earth is that some bugs can “walk on water”. Most of the time, gravity is too strong and it breaks the “skin”. But with zero gravity in space, the “skin” stays strong and the water ball will not break.
