I am Daisy Jones. At about 8:30 this morning, I was walking on Ocean Road when a boy on a bike passed me quickly. The road was empty at that time so the boy kept riding in the middle.
Suddenly a car appeared. It passed me, then followed the boy for a while. It tried to pass the boy several times but failed. The driver began to sound the horn（鸣笛）. However, it seemed that the boy didn’t hear it. He was probably listening to music with earplugs（耳塞）! That was terrible.

By Mike McDonald Have you ever done or thought about volunteering (志愿服务) before? Volunteering means spending time helping somebody or something. In my case, I’ve volunteered in an animal center to help dogs. Back in 2021, some friends and I went to an animal center outside of Bejjing. There, I was able to get close to the animals. There were not only dogs at the center, however. I saw many kinds of other animals as well, such as foxes and cats. Still, our main task was to help the dogs by giving them walks. Many of the dogs were kept in big cages (笼子) along with other dogs and ate from a big bowl together. I felt a bit sad for the dogs because many of them looked old and dirty. So I decided to give one of the dogs a good walk. I remember it was a big black dog with curly (卷曲的) hair. The dog was very gentle, but it did not want to walk very far. It was also a bit shy and just wanted to lie alone. Still, when I took out a tennis ball to play, it really enjoyed it. 15 dead in building fire in East China

NANJING—15 people were killed and 44 seriously hurt after the building fire broke out on Friday morming, February 23, 2024, in Nanjing, the capital city of East China’s Jiangsu province.
At around 4:39 am that day, the local fire department received an alarm about the fire in a residential building in the Yuhuatai district, which has 6 buildings and the fire broke out in unit 2 of Building 6 with 256 households and 762 residents (居民). Immediately, the local government has ordered all-out efforts to save the injured (伤员) after the fire. 25 fire trucks and 130 firefighters have bcen sent to offer help. They have helped 516 people get out of the building. Unfortunately, 15 of them were dead and 44 were seriously hurt. At around 6 am the firefighters put out the fire which lasted more than 1 hour. All the injured are receiving treatment at hospital.
It’s reported that an electric bicycle parked on the first floor of building 6 caused the fire. In order to prevent similar fire accidents, the government should strengthen the standard management of electric bicycle parking and charging facilities (充电), and strengthen the fire safety education for residents.
The fire again reminds us that fire safety is no small matter, we must always pay attention to our lives and property safety.
