Everyone can join the fight against the novel coronavirus. What can we do? Here are some tips from the Handbook of Prevention and Treatment of COVID-19 released by WeDoctor Digital General Hospital.
Stay away from crowds and stay healthy.
First, don’t go to places where there are many people. If you have to, remember to mask up. Stay at least one meter away from others, especially those who are coughing or sneezing. Second, open windows to let fresh air in during the day. Do it three times a day for 15 minutes to half an hour each time. You can only get infected (感染的) if the virus builds up in certain amounts. Proper ventilation can stop the virus from building up. Third, keep healthy habits such as eating a healthy diet, exercising and getting enough sleep. This can improve your immune system.
Wear medical masks.
Wearing medical masks is an effective way of preventing the spread of the novel coronavirus. What kind of mask should you wear? Medical surgical(外科的) masks and N95 are effective at stopping the virus, according to the Center for Disease Control. N95 means the masks prevent at least ninety-five percent of very small particles.
Wash hands properly.
Remember to wash your hands before eating, after going to the bathroom, coming home, coming into contact with garbage and touching animals. Don’t touch your eyes, nose and mouth before washing your hands. It is possible that you might have touched something that had virus on it. When you wash your hands, use running water and soap. Rub your hands together for at least 15 seconds.

“I’ve always had a pretty clear idea of what I want to do.” says Mary, a middle school student who wants to become a director some day.You may not be as sure of your career as Mary. But you can start thinking about and planning for your future career.
The following article helps middle school students plan for careers.
Explore your interests
Many middle school students don’t yet know what they want to do. But in fact students may change their minds several times, perhaps even after they enter society. And some of tomorrow’s careers might not exist today. In the middle school, it isn’t necessary to focus on just one job. But looking into the kinds of you might like can help you succeed.
①________
Understanding what you enjoy and what you’re good at is the most important step in exploring careers. If you don’t know what you want to do, you should ask yourself what you like to learn about. If you really like science, what do you enjoy about it — the lab work or the research? It’s important to think about what you like to do, because work will finally be a big part of your life.
Discover possible careers
Once you’ve thought about the subjects and activities you like best, the next step is to look for careers that put those interests to use. If you love sports, for example, you might consider a career as a P.E. teacher or a soccer coach. If you like English, a career as an English teacher, a translator or a travelling guide might be a good choice.
②________
After discovering possible jobs, you’ll want to learn more about them. Talking directly to workers on the phone, by email, or through online discussion can help you get information about what they do.亲自与他们见面也是有帮助的。First-.hand information is necessary for you to find out if you’ll really like a career.

Do you think England teaches math the same way as China does? The answer is yes!
In England, we have math lessons very similar to what kids have in China. During each lesson, our teacher teaches us about a new math concept(概念). Later, we finish either a worksheet or a booklet to improve our understanding. We have a test once every term to see how much we have learned.
But things were a little different in Year 7. We didn’t do any end-of-year exams. We did something different—a math test to form “sets”. What does set mean? In each class of 26 students, only 30 percent will reach the top set. The other students will be in the medium set. To get into the top set, you need to get high scores on your math exams. With the set, teachers can pay more attention to a smaller group of students who are good at math. They can give them harder questions to do.
I had my math sets exam on May 17th. It had two parts, A and B. For Part A, we had 40 minutes. It was mainly arithmetic(算术) and questions about numbers. For Part B, we had 50 minutes to answer problem-solving questions.
I got into the top set. It is true that the lessons are much harder. But with the teacher’s help, I always get good grades. I like it because it makes me more competitive(有竞争力的).

French
French people are often seen as romantic and outgoing people with a great love for life, food and wine. They are good at singing and dancing.
Chinese
Chinese are friendly people who are hard-working. They are polite because they are careful about “saving face” when dealing with other people.
Australians
Australians are merry people who spend a lot of time outdoors. They enjoy a slower life. They laugh a lot but sometimes people think they are loud and rude.
Germans
Germans are often described as being serious and careful. They work hard and pay a lot of attention to details. However, sometimes people say Germans have no sense of humour.
All these national types can be true for some people, but very wrong for others. For example, you might meet a German who is a confident singer with a great sense of humour, or an Australian who is shy and quiet!

An Accidental Invention Did you know that tea, the most popular drink in the world (after water), was invented by accident? Many people believe that tea was first drunk about 5, 000 years ago. It is said that a Chinese ruler called Shen Nong was the first to discover tea as a drink. One day Shen Nong was boiling drinking water over an open fire. Some leaves from a tea plant fell into the water and remained there for some time. It produced a nice smell so he tasted the brown water. It was quite delicious, and so, one of the world’s favorite drinks was invented. A few thousand years later, Lu Yu, “the saint of tea”, mentioned Shen Nong in his book Cha Jing. The book describes how tea plants were grown and used to make tea. It also discusses where the finest tea leaves were produced and what kinds of water were used. It is believed that tea was brought to Korea and Japan during the 6th and 7th centuries. In England, tea didn’t appear until around 1660, but in less than 100 years, it had become the national drink. The tea trade from China to Western countries took place in the 19th century. This helped to spread the popularity of tea and the tea plant to more places around the world. Even though many people now know about tea culture, the Chinese are without doubt the ones who best understand the nature of tea. |

How time flies! The summer of 2020 is coming. As the days get hotter, we can stay inside and turn on an air conditioning (空调) to stay comfortable. But do you know how people in ancient China used different ways to avoid the heat in summer?
Starting from the Qin Dynasty, royal (皇家的) and rich families began to store ice during winter. As summer began, they used ice to cool their homes. People would put a container (容器) with many ice cubes (冰块) inside of it in their rooms. Servants would fan (用扇子扇) the containers to create cool air.
But common people couldn’t store ice. So they liked to spend hot days near wells (井) better than in other places. Some people would keep their food in empty wells. The wells would keep the food cool and fresh, just like a refrigerator.
There are some other ways for the Chinese ancient people to cool themselves. They also made their own summer drinks, such as well water and drinks made from herbs (草药). According to a report, Kublai Khan (忽必烈) — emperor of the Yuan Dynasty — liked drinking milk with ice and sweet candy. Some people believe that it was the world’s first ice cream.
