Some ants (蚂蚁) make their homes under a stone. If the weather is warm, you may see many ants under the stone. If the weather is cold, many ants will be in their house under the ground.

Most of the ants are workers. They are very busy. They look for food and take care of the young ants. Each family of ants has a queen ant (蚁后). The queen ant doesn’t work. She is important because she lays eggs (产卵). These eggs will become new ants.

There are many kinds of ants in America. One kind of these is very strong. People are afraid of it and animals are afraid of it, too.

【推荐3】Cheetahs(猎豹)live on other animals they find in Africa. For this reason, most people are afraid of them. However, one family in South Africa is keeping a cheetah as a household pet.

The big cheetah is named Jolie, after the film star Angelina Jolie. She is surely the VIP at Magda and Japie Pienaar's home. She can often be found eating from the kitchen table or napping(打盹)on the sofa. Sometimes, she can even be found sleeping on the couple's bed. The big cat likes to play with the Pienaars' other pet — the more usual one — a German Shepherd. An unlikely friendship has developed between these two animals.

Having a cheetah as a pet is, of course, unusual. At first, Mrs. Pienaar was unwilling to keep a cheetah as a pet. "I really hated the idea of getting a cheetah as a pet," she said. "But we are now glad that we did it — she is part of the family," she added.

And just like Angelina Jolie, four-year-old Jolie the cheetah has risen to fame in the Pienaars' hometown. Fans often come to the couple's home to take pictures of her. Interestingly, Jolie seems to enjoy all the attention.

However, a cheetah is always a cheetah. Although Jolie is now a household pet, she hasn't totally gotten rid of her wild nature. "She makes a big mess in the house. She urinates(排尿)everywhere and chews on everything," complained Mrs. Pienaar. "It's just her instincts, perhaps."

So there might be some problems with having a cheetah as a pet in the house. However, some unusual fun must also be waiting ahead!
