A video of a black sun bear at the Hangzhou Zoo has become popular. In the video, the bear stands on its back legs and the fur (毛) on its behind is loose (松散的). Many people thought it was a person standing in a bear suit.
The zoo workers said that the sun bear was real. “If a person did wear a bear suit, they would be falling down within minutes because of the hot weather in summer. ”
Later, the zoo made a statement (声明) in the name of “Angela”, the sun bear. “Some people think I stand like a person. It seems you don’t understand me very well,” the statement said. “Let me say again to everyone that I am a sun bear—not a black bear, not a dog—a sun bear!”
Sun bears live in the forests of Southeast Asia. They are the smallest bears in the world. They are only about the size of a large dog. They can be 1.1-1.5 meters tall while standing on their back legs. They can weigh from 25 to 75 kilograms.
Sun bears are the least studied out of all the 8 kinds of bears. Maybe this is because they are shy and live far away from people. They are listed as vulnerable (易危的) by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Their numbers in the wild have fallen by 35% over the past thirty years, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). They need more protection.

One reason has to do with your body’s daily clock. At night, when you’re trying to rest, certain small parts in your body that fight off sickness become more active. They’re working hard to get rid of the sickness, but this can make you feel worse. It’s like your body is having a silent battle with the flu, and you feel more coughs, stuffy nose, and aches because of it.
Another factor is how lying down affects you. When you’re up and moving around, the force that pulls everything down helps mucus (粘液) clear away. But in bed, mucus collects in the back of your throat, causing that itchy (痒的) feeling that makes you cough. This is called nose drip after lying down and can be really annoying when you’re trying to sleep.
So what can you do about it? Drinking lots of water throughout the day can help by making mucus thinner and easier to clear. Before bed, a hot shower might also help open up your nose. And when it’s time to lie down, try lifting your head up with a few extra pillows (枕头). This can prevent mucus from building up in your throat and help you breathe more easily.

Now let’s learn some physical (自然地理学的) things about it. A wave has height, from low point to high point . It has length (长度)--the distance from this high point to that of the following wave. The period of the wave means the time it takes for succeeding high points to pass a fixed point. None of these things stays the same--for all depend upon (依靠)the wind, upon the depth (深度) of the water and many other matters.
The water that makes up a wave does not advance with it across the sea. Each drop of water turns around in a little circle with the passing of the wave, but returns very nearly to its original position (原先的位置). And it is lucky that this is so. For if the huge groups of water that make up a wave really moved across the sea, sailing would be impossible. If we want to find the speed of a wave, we may use the following way : Speed =" wavelength" × frequency (频率).
Here, wavelength is the distance between two high points , frequency means the number of cycles per second

Today we talk about one that is about canaries(金丝雀). With the beautiful feathers and lovely bird-song, many people keep them as pets. Some cats like to catch such small birds. So, if a cat eats one, it may have a look on its face that shows both pride and guilt(内疚). The cat was happy when it did it even if it was wrong.
If I look very proud but a little guilty for doing something, others can say that I “look like the cat that ate the canary”. This means, “I should not have done it, and I know it was wrong. But I am still pleased with myself!”
When using this expression, don’t forget the guilt part. If you have a friend who didn’t study hard but still passed the test because she cheated and still looked proud of it… then the expression will work quite well.
Now, we use this expression in other situations. When we have a secret, we may look hike the cat that ate the canary. We also use it when we feel smug. It means you are too proud of yourself. This kind of people are also hiding something from others or simply not telling all the details.

Trips come in second of $4.4 billion. $2.6 billion will go towards buying flowers. Others like clothing ($2.1 billion), and electronics ($2 billion) are also popular.
As we know, Mother’s Day started because of the hard work of Anna Jarvis. She came up with the idea in 1905 to honor moms for the hard work they do for their families. The first celebration(庆祝)in 1908 in Grafton, West Virginia, was such a success that Jarvis made up her mind to make the holiday a national(全国的)holiday. She started writing to newspapers and lawmakers about the importance of a special day to honor mothers. In 1914, President(总统)Woodrow Wilson set the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.
However, soon sellers got the chance to sell their products. Jarvis was not happy with this. So she spent years speaking out and fighting against sellers who tried by all means to earn money on Mother’s Day.
Actually, most moms now choose spending time with their family and a break from daily chores(日常琐事)instead of going to expensive stores to buy things. So on Mother’s Day children can do something thoughtful like making breakfast or doing housework to show love and respect for their moms.

A team of scientists from New York did a study. The team did a study on 109 office workers across the US. They found some of the workers saw lots of light during the morning hours, between 8 am and lunchtime. They found they had a better sleep than others. They also fell asleep more quickly at night.
Why is sunlight so important to your sleep? Scientists say it helps set your “body clock”. When there is less and less sunlight at the close of the day, your body starts to make melatonin (褪黑素). It makes you feel sleepy. Your body makes the most melatonin at night. During the day, sunlight tells your body to make less melatonin. This keeps you awake.

From May through September, Luca and other divers are working on Nemo's Garden in the Mediterranean Sea, 150 feet from the coast of Noli, Italy. Five large balloon-like objects, called biospheres (生物圈), hold plants such as beans and strawberries. The biospheres are filled with air and plated 20 feet below the surface. "My father came up with the idea because he loves gardening very much," Luca said.
According to Luca, the sea is a good place to grow plants because underwater temperatures remain stable, changing little from day to night. The biospheres act like greenhouses. Inside the air-filled biospheres, fresh water keeps evaporating (蒸发), providing the plants with a good environment to grow in. "We have already seen the plants, grow faster and better," Luca says. "And there are fewer storms that can knock down the biospheres during the summer."
Luca hopes Nemo's Garden will provide a new way of growing crops. "There is not enough land on the Earth," he says. "And in many developing countries, bad conditions make it difficult for crops to grow."
Though the project has just started, Nemo's Garden has achieved success and is moving to different areas. "We're going to try growing other plants." Luca says. "We hope to set up biospheres in other countries. There are many possibilities."

The seaweed pouch(海藻袋)
Are you thirsty while running? Here, you can have a seaweed pouch full of sports drink.
More than 42,000 people ran the London Marathon on April 28. And London made a change in giving away water this year. When runners reached 23 miles, they got the Ooho water pouches, not plastic water bottles. And as a result, the London Marathon cut down the number of plastic bottles by 200,000.
The Ooho pouches are made of seaweed by a company called Skipping Rocks Lab. Why does the company use seaweed? Because seaweed can grow up to 1 meter every day and it doesn’t need fresh water. According to the company, making water pouches is easier than making plastic bottles. And the thin seaweed membrane(薄膜) is edible. If people are not willing to eat it, it will biodegrade within six weeks!
The race in London marks the first time the Ooho pouch is used at a marathon. “It is a milestone(里程碑), We are hoping to show that we can use it widely in the future,” said Garcia Gonzalez, one of the company’s founders. The balls are made for people on the move, such as runners and music festival-goers. They can hold not only water but also many other drinks. Garcia Gonzalez says the Lab wants to make plastic packaging disappear.
