Students in primary and secondary schools across China are not allowed to bring their mobile phones to school unless they have a real need and their parents make written applications(申请), according to a policy(政策) at the website of the Ministry of Education on February 1.

In case there are written applications, the students who do bring their mobile phones to school have to hand in their phones instead of taking the phones to classrooms.

The move is said to protect students’ eyesight and make students focus on studying instead of surfing the Internet and playing games.

Mr. Temp was a kind teacher that I will never forget. I truly believe the teen years were the hardest time of my life. At that time, as a girl, I hated it when my parents asked me directly about my problems, making me more uncomfortable. I also remember many times when Mr. Temp would take me aside and talk to me. He had a special way of finding out what the problem was. Every time he talked with me, I felt better.

Have you watched 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games? Freestyle skier Gu Ailing, 18, won the historic gold with a 1620 performance she had never done before on Feb.8th, 2022. At the same time, this is also China’s third gold medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Born to an American father and a Chinese mother, Gu decided to compete for China at the 2022 Winter Olympics in June, 2019. Just two months later, she won her first gold medal for China at the New Zealand Winter Games and Australia Cup. Her strength continued to grow as she won one bronze and two gold medals at the Freestyle Skiing World Championships in March.

People think she is talented. But Gu says that talent takes up “only 1 percent”of her success. Her hard work is what really matters. While going to school in San Francisco, Gu could only practise on weekends. She spent eight hours going to the ski hill and back, doing homework on the way and making full use of her time at the hill to practice skiing. In one of her interviews, she mentioned that once she set her goal, she would try her best to achieve it.

Gu says she hopes to encourage more girls in China to try skiing. She also says skiing brings her freedom and satisfaction, especially when she perfectly controls her body and does skills that others cannot do. She really takes pride in this sport.

Jeff Gaye, the young American swimmer, is becoming more and more famous around the world. But he used to be quiet and wasn’t popular at the primary school.
