Trees are useful to man in three important ways.

The first important way is that they provide man with food, wood and other products. Trees provide not only man with food, but also many animals with food. Without trees many animals could not live on the earth. It’s not easy for man to live on the earth without trees, either.

The second important way is that trees give us shade (阴凉). On a hot summer day, people are eager (渴望) to have a rest under a tree after they have a long walk. You can imagine how important the shade of a tree is to man and animals.

The third important way is that trees help to prevent droughts and floods (防止干旱和洪水). However, in many parts of the world, man doesn’t realize the third way. They cut trees down in large numbers. In the end they find that they have lost the best friends they had.

文章大意:本文介绍北京秋天和冬天空气差的原因及中国政府对此做出的行动计划。

【推荐3】If you live in Beijing, you may notice that the air these days is not as clean as it was during the summer. Fall and winter are the seasons with the worst air quality in northern China. It’s partly because people burn coal to heat their homes. Moreover, compared to the same period last year, higher temperatures, few windy days and little rainfall since September have made pollution worse, Xinhua reported.

To stop pollution from getting worse, Chinese government has made an action plan. It aims to control air pollution in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and nearby areas during the autumn and winter seasons, according to China Daily.

The plan sets higher goals. The average density (平均浓度) of PM 2.5 in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and nearby areas should drop by 4 percent from Oct 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023, according to the plan. Last year’s goal was 3 percent.

Also, the number of days with serious pollution should fall by 6 percent, the plan says.

This year’s plan has some highlights (亮点). It calls for “more scientific” production restriction (限制) in different industries.

The plan sorts factories or companies in 15 fields, including steelmaking and glass production, into three grades. Grade A companies are those that have very few emissions (排放). They will not have to restrict production. Grade B companies will face some restrictions. The plan will set the strictest restriction for Grade C companies.

This approach makes this year’s plan stand out from previous (以往的) ones, Chai Fahe, deputy director of the national Joint Research Center told China Daily.
