Jin Ying, 25, is a lover of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). She took part in a three-month training lesson on tuina in the winter of 2023 at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.
Jin’s life has been different since the training. For example, she didn’t do too much exercise in winter, because the cold of winter means people should slow down, according to TCM. For her, learning about TCM was not about becoming a TCM doctor but about leading a healthy life.
She is not an unusual example of young people becoming interested in TCM. It’s reported by China Youth Daily that 93.3% of the 1,000 young people have tried TCM. Between Western medicine and TCM, young people often choose TCM “because of its efficacy (疗效),” according to Ma Huifang, a TCM doctor. Some people question why TCM has different treatments (疗法) for the same illnesses. “In fact, this is an advantage of TCM. We give people the treatments according to their own health condition. And it can make the treatments more accurate and more useful for different people,” said Ma.
Younger age groups are showing more interest in TCM. At the same time, TCM also gives young people a better life. It helps young people understand Chinese medicine and learn why it is an important part of Chinese culture.

Robots lend a hand
Robots are being used to fight the virus. For example, medical workers at the Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen are using robots to do routine (常规的) medical tasks.
Developed by Chinese AI company UB Tech, these robots can offer medical advice, deliver (递送)medicine and disinfect (消毒) wards (病房) and other areas. They can also check temperatures, according to China Daily.
Liu Yue, head of the hospital’s fever outpatient services (发热门诊), said the robots have made work much easier. “It greatly reduces our burden (负担), and it can also prevent us from missing infected patients,” Liu said.
Remote (远程的) healthcare services
It can be dangerous for medical workers and patients to come into contact (接触) with each other. But with remote medical services, doctors at different hospitals can share photos and videos to come up with the best treatment. China’s three biggest telecom companies are providing hospitals across the country with 5G support. This allows them to transfer(传送) large amounts of data (数据) quickly.
For example, on Feb 27, doctors in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou used 5G technology to treat a severely (严重地) ill 67-year-old patient in Wuhan, according to China Daily. By diagnosing (诊断) patients remotely, doctors can protect both themselves and their patients.
AI makes work more efficient (高效的)
Ask Bob is an AI-powered consultation (咨询) platform. Developed by Ping An Smart Healthcare, it can provide users with information about the virus, help people do medical self-checks, check their mental (心理的) health and choose the right face masks, according to China Daily.
Ping An Smart Healthcare has also developed AI software that can read CT images and provide accurate (准确的) analyses (分析) to doctors. This can speed up the diagnostic process and allow doctors to give faster treatment.

Cute lion heads, loud gongs (锣) and drums, an excited crowd—these are all parts of the lion dances you often see during Chinese holidays or at the openings of new shops and restaurants.
Ancient Chinese people thought the lion stood for (代表) braveness. It can drive away bad things and bring good luck. As one of the most well-known folk dances in China, the lion dance has been performed for more than 2,000 years. It was very popular during the Tang Dynasty (618—907).
Wang Rentao, 41, has been performing the lion dance for 28 years. Born in Zhongkeng village in Dongguan, Guangdong, Wang watched villagers perform it when he was young. “It’s a historical tradition here and the love for lion dance is in everyone’s blood,” Wang said.
Now the head of the village’s lion dance performers, Wang is proud of the group’s achievements. “We’ve won many prizes and taken part in many important events, including the celebration of the 70th birthday of New China at Tian’anmen Square,” Wang said.
Wang’s group is famous for dancing on quincuncial piles (梅花桩), one of the most difficult lion dance skills. Performers jump from one pile to another at a height of about 2.5 meters. The distance between the piles can be as far as 1.8 meters.
“The training is really difficult. Performers need to have lots of good practice of kung fu skills first. Even with that, they can fall from the pile and get hurt,” Wang said. “But that’s also the amazing part of lion dance, the part that makes it valuable heritage.”

1. Get organised
The best presentations are well planned and clearly organized. Think about topics(话题)and choose a proper one. In one topic, three or four main ideas will be fine. The beginning of your presentation should be interesting. For example, you can tell a short, funny story to make people laugh.
2. Use photos or videos
Try to use photos or videos. These things make your performance more exciting and help you remember what you’ re going to say. However, you shouldn’t use too many. The “star” of your presentation should be you, not your photos or videos.
3. Practice before your performance
You need to practice many times before the “big day”. Practice saying any unusual words. Then write the main ideas on small cards to help you remember. Practice in front of a mirror and time your presentation. Finally, you can record your performance or ask a friend to watch you and then make suggestions for improvements.
4. Connect with your audience(观众)
Always look at the audience when you speak. Stand up straight, but don’t stand still or move around much. Finally, be sure to thank your audience when you finish speaking. It’s a simple but good way to end any presentation.
1. How can you interest your listeners at the beginning?A.By listing your ideas. | B.By telling a funny story. |
C.By standing up straight. | D.By saying simple words. |
A.The day you prepare videos. | B.The day you get some advice. |

Rebecca Sharrock, 25, is one of just 80 people worldwide who have been identified(确定)as having Highly Superior Autobiographical Memory(HSAM, 超级自传体记忆症). It means she can remember every small event which most people would forget with in(在……以内)days as if it had happened just minutes ago.
“I remember my mum putting me in the driver’s seat of a car and taking a picture of me when I was 12 days old,” she said. “That’s my earliest memory. I remember every day since then. I can’t tell all the dates exactly because I was too young to understand calendars, but I remember what I did that every day, what the weather was like and so on.”
Rebecca can also re-experience taste. If she’s eating something that she doesn’t like, she thinks about Black Forest cake, her favorite food, and the memory will be so strong that she can nearly “taste” it.
However, sometimes her memories prove to be painful. Because they’re not just events that she remembers. “When I relive(再体验)memories, the feelings return, too,” Rebecca said. “For example, I remember falling over when I was three at my grandparents' house and hurting my left knee. Talking about it now, I feel painful in my left knee.”
“At night, I have to sleep with the radio recorder and a soft light on, she added.” If it’s too dark or quiet, my mind would be filled with all these memories and I can’t sleep.
