A new course standard for labor (劳动) education comes out recently. The standard has the following tasks: everyday chores, like cleaning; productive labor, including making traditional handicrafts (手工艺品)and experiencing new technologies; and service, including volunteer work.

Primary school students in first and second grades need to do basic cleaning, wash vegetables, peel fruit, and learn to raise one or two kinds of plants or small animals. Third and fourth graders should clean their classrooms, wash their socks and shoes and know how to make cold dishes. Fifth and sixth graders should know the skills of cooking two or three common dishes. For middle school students, they are encouraged to cook three or four dishes independently, learn how to make one or two kinds of traditional handicrafts, and experience one or two kinds of new technologies, modern service or volunteer work.

Labor Week will come into beings every school year. It calls on the families to join in students’ labor education. Schools should help parents realize the importance of labor education and help parents make labor lists to improve students’ independence.

The course standard has been widely discussed on social media and most of people welcomed this online and said it is necessary. Some have regretted not learning such skills during their school days.

However, housework like cooking and cleaning always send up at the bottom of many of our to-do lists. Because of study pressure, schools always focus on the courses, and parents sometimes see housework as distractions(干扰). Some people even think that they should be taken care of by our parents. It seems that hard-working spirit education has been overlooked(轻视) in recent years. Many teenagers do not value the importance of working hard.

They only spend 12 minutes a day on average(平均) on housework, compared to 72 minutes in the US, 42 minutes in South Korea and 30 minutes in France.

The Chinese government has been trying to pay attention to the importance of hard-working spirit education(劳动教育). Primary and middle schools should provide students with hard-working spirit courses every week. Parents are encouraged to help their children learn how to do housework at home. Teenagers should master one or two life skills every year. These skills can include cooking, washing their own clothes and tiding their rooms. The basic skills may help teens to solve the problems they will meet in the future.

In fact, these life skills are important and should be taught as part of labor education.

Now more and more Chinese people are traveling abroad. However, their bad manners have given them a bad reputation(名声).

A recent US survey of 5,600 people from five countries showed that Chinese people are the second worst tourists. The worst are American tourists.

Some Chinese tourists talk loudly in places like cafes and museums. Some Chinese tourists also like to write or draw pictures on famous buildings. In Singapore, some Chinese tourists are fined(罚款) because they were smoking in non-smoking areas.

Some people may say that they can do everything that they want because they spend money in the country. In fact it is not true. While enjoying ourselves, we should also respect local customs and take care of the environment.

Life is full of the unexpected. On October 28, 2020, a serious traffic accident happened in Chongqing. A bus and a red car collided(碰撞) at the second bridge of the Yangtze River. The bus ran out of control on the bridge and crashed into the river. All 15 passengers and the driver in the bus were killed.

At the beginning of the accident, many people doubted that the red car was going the wrong way, causing the bus to fall into the river. Others guessed that the accident was caused by the driver’s sudden illness. However, a few days later, based on the black box, which was saved from the scene of the accident, together with the traffic records, the police announced(宣布) the truth.

Before the bus reached the bridge, a female passenger had a quarrel with the bus driver because she missed her station, but the driver refused to stop the bus. So she got angry and got into a fight with him. Because the bus speed was very high, the bus was out of control.

People from all walks of life paid more attention to the accident and expressed their opinions. Some people think the woman passenger made the trouble without reasons. She was regarded as the chief culprit(罪魁祸首). She shouldn’t have argued with the driver. Some people think drivers shouldn’t fight with passengers and they should keep calm and put the passengers’ safety first at any time. As for the other passengers, they failed to dissuade(劝阻) the two in time. Of course they didn’t know the result would be so serious.

Nowadays, tens of thousands of people die or get hurt on the roads every year in China. In my opinion, all of us should follow the rules and put the safety in our heart.
