Do you have a pet? Many children like pets and even treat them like humans sometimes. They may like to kiss or hug their pets. But this can make them sick. “Kissing or hugging pets such as dogs and cats can cause people to take in drug-resistant bacteria (耐药细菌),” British scientists said.

Many pet owners give their pets antibiotics (抗生素) when they get sick. But taking antibiotics too often can affect the bacteria inside your pet. The bacteria can become drug resistant. When people kiss or hug their pets, this kind of bacteria can move to them and make them sick.

Close relationships between pet owners and their pets are important. But if pet owners follow the rules below they will not get sick.

Rules for playing:

One day you go into a restaurant and order fried chicken, but the waiter brings you a plate of green vegetables instead. How would you feel about this kind of mistake? Perhaps most people will feel unhappy. However, the same mistakes often happen in a restaurant in Tokyo, Japan and it has become very popular.

The name of the restaurant is The Restaurant of Order Mistakes. Food blogger Mizuho Kudo visited it and had a good time there. At first, she ordered a hamburger but ended up having dumplings instead. To her surprise, everything turned out to be very delicious. Kudo said that the waiters and waitresses were full of smiles and seemed to be having lots of fun. Yes, as the restaurant’s name shows, mistakes are common in this restaurant. But it’s important to know the cause of the mistake: the waiters and waitresses make these mistakes not because they are too busy or they are not careful enough. Red sky at night, Sailor’s delight!

Red sky in the morning, Sailors take warning!

This weather rhyme was written a long time ago, but it still works today. As the sun is setting, a red sky at night usually means there are no clouds coming in from the west, a sign of good weather for tomorrow. But a red sky in the morning always means drier air is moving away to the east and moister air is moving in from the west. The moist air could bring clouds, rain and stormy weather.

When leaves show their undersides (底部), Be very certain, rain betides.

The rhyme shows us how trees forecast the weather. Tree leaves turn upside down just before it rains. In the period before a storm, strong winds can lift the leaves and show their undersides.

Animals, insects and plants are natural forecasters. When a summer storm is coming, you may notice that dogs, cows, horses, and geese grow restless (不安的) and frogs come out of their hiding places. These animals don’t have some sixth sense. Scientists think the animals can hear the low frequency (频率) sound waves made by thunderstorms many miles away.

Get outside and observe nature carefully, and soon you’ll be your own weather forecaster.

1. The underlined word “moist” can be replaced by the word “________”.
A.wetB.ColdC.warmD.clean
2. What is helpful for some animals to forecast the stormy weather?
A.Their sense of sight.B.Their sense of hearing.
C.Their sense of smell.D.Their sense of touching.
3. Which of the following is TRUE?
A.The two rhymes are both about winter weather.
B.When leaves show their undersides, it will be fine.
C.If you see a red sky in the morning, you can travel outside.
D.If you see a frog come out of its hiding place, you’d better stay at home.
4. What’s the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To introduce two famous weather rhymes to us.
B.To tell us we should read as many rhymes as possible.
C.To show us the way to observe different animals.
D.To encourage us to get close to nature and observe the weather on our own.

【推荐3】We have always been interested in the moon. 2000 years ago people already knew it moved around the earth and where it would be in the sky at different times of the year. At that time, everything about the moon was learned by watching it carefully in the sky.
When scientists could use telescopes(望远镜) to study the moon more closely, their ideas began to change. They could see the moon was made of rocks. Most scientists thought moon rocks would be different from those on Earth. This was because they believed the moon had once been a planet(行星) that had been caught in the earth’s gravity(重力) millions of years earlier.
In 1969 moon rocks were finally brought to the earth and studied. Much to their surprise, scientists found that, except for water, the moon and the earth were made of the same things. Once again new ideas were needed for this new information.
After years of study, most scientists now think that the moon was once part of Earth. They believe very early in its history, maybe 4 million years ago, something about the size of Mars(火星) hit Earth. This sent billions of rocks into space around our planet. These rocks slowly joined together and after many years became the moon.
In the future, even though our ideas about the moon may change again, we will still be interested in it.
1. In the passage the writer wants to tell us ___________________.
A.why people are interested in the moon
B.how ideas about the moon have changed over time
C.where the moon came from in the past
D.that people have finally learned the truth about the moon.
2. Before 1969 most scientists thought the moon was ___________________.
A.part of the earth billions of years earlier
B.older than the earth
C.a planet caught by the earth’s gravity
D.made of the same things as the earth
3. From this passage we can learn that ___________________.
A.scientists in the past were not clever
B.the earth was once part of the moon
C.we now know everything about the moon
D.new information brings new ideas
