March 24th
This morning, we had a school trip to the Dashan Collection House, a building of two floors. It is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We took the school bus and arrived at 9:00. When we entered the collection house, our eyes were caught by a collection of old photos of the town on the walls of the front hall. Those photos told us something about the history of the town. And then in the Art Room, we saw many pictures of the countryside. Some famous local artists drew them. The colors of the flowers and the trees were rich and bright. All at once, I lost myself in the beauty of nature.
Then we went upstairs(楼上). On the left, there were over one hundred different clocks. The oldest clock was already more than two hundred years old. To my surprise, the clocks all worked well and they could tell the right time. It was then ten o’clock, and some clocks made different beautiful sounds. It seemed to be a concert. How amazing!
On the right there was also a stone(石头)collection. The stones were from all over the country. They were in different sizes, colors and shapes. Some looked like different kinds of animals. I really liked one stone that looked like a little monkey. It looked very nice.
The collections there were wonderful. So we stayed there until 11:30 in the morning. I had a great time and really liked the school trip.
Answer the following questions within 6 words.
1. Where did the writer and his classmates go for the school trip?
2. What did they see in the Art Room?
3. How many kinds of collections are there in the passage?
4. How long did they stay there?

In Chinese culture, the ox stands for the spirit of hard work and unselfishness. We often say that the ox is enduring (忍耐的) and generous (慷慨的). The term “laohuangniu” describes those who help others and ask nothing for themselves. Just as Chinese writer Lu Xun once wrote, “Cows eat grass, but give milk.”
But in the West, people have a different opinion about the animal. “Bullheaded” people are very stubborn (固执的) and will not listen to advice.
If you search on the internet for the word “bull”, you’ll also find other interesting English expressions. For example, if someone behaves “like a bull in a china shop”, he or she behaves in a clumsy (笨拙的) manner when they should be more careful.
With the new year coming, we hope that all of our readers will work just as hard as the ox does. Avoid anything that might make you as angry as “a red flag to a bull”. We hope you can always “take the bull by the horns (不畏艰险)” when you have to deal with a difficult situation.

3. What are bullheaded people like?
4. If a person acts carelessly, which word or phrase might be used to describe them?

For more than 100 years, libraries have played an important role in keeping Americans educated. But how are these book-filled buildings changing with the times? You may be surprised to find out.
Benjamin Franklin founded America’s first lending library in Philadelphia in 1731. And the number of public libraries greatly increased in the late 1800s. Andrew Carnegie, a businessman, gave away millions of dollars to help build free public libraries across the country. Between 1886 and 1919, Carnegie helped build 1,679 new libraries!
Carnegie believed that libraries could offer Americans many opportunities. He knew that the more libraries there were, the more people would have opportunities to read books and news. There are more public libraries in America than McDonald’s restaurants now.
The United States is home to 9,225 public libraries. Today, the number of libraries continues to grow. Seven out of ten public libraries offer free Internet use. This can help many community members who can’t go online at home. It can also help them to have the opportunity to find jobs online.

This year marks the 100th anniversary (周年纪念日) of the founding of the CYLC. The CYLC was born during the war and got over a lot of difficulties in the past century. I believe that most teenagers dream of being members. I sure do! Here are some qualities that I think a member should have.
First, a good member must be determined (坚定的) to follow the Party. As the reserve force of our Party, CYLC carries trust and expectation and represents the future of our nation. Its members are meant to be loyal to the Party. Second, when facing danger, its members should stay calm and brave. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, there was a girl called Liu Hulan. When enemies asked her about our secrets, she refused to tell them. In the end, she died for the revolution. She is a hero forever, and sets a good example for us. Finally, its members should be passionate (热诚的) and positive even when there are challenges ahead.
President Xi Jinping once said, “To accomplish (完成) our great mission (使命), we must always remain true to our original aspiration.” To be a good member of the CYLC in the future, I will stay on course. I will devote myself to our Chinese Dream, following the light of the CYLC.
