You ask about places to visit and things to do in my city. Wenxin Mall is always fun. It’s a shopping center. There are some good stores and restaurants here. For example(例如), Andy’s Boutique is in Wenxin Mall. It’s a good place to shop, and has many Chinese clothes. My favourite restaurant is Dick’s Café. There are all kinds of drinks in it and the grape juice is great. I like Beijing Restaurant, too. You can get wonderful noodles there and beef noodles are the most delicious!
Come for a visit soon!

Mike

In the early years, these schools were nearly the same. Only young men went to college. All the students studied the same subjects, and everyone learned Latin and Greek. Little was known about science. And few people knew that one kind of school could teach everything that was known about the world. When the students graduated, most of them became ministers or teachers.
In 1782, Harvard started a medical school for young men who wanted to become doctors. Later, lawyers could study in Harvard's law school. In 1825, besides Latin and Greek, Harvard began to teach modern languages, such as French and German. Soon it began to teach American history.
As knowledge increased, Harvard and other colleges began to teach many new subjects. Students were allowed to choose the subjects that interested them. Today, there are many different kinds of colleges and universities. Most of them are made up of smaller schools that deal with special fields of learning. There's so much to learn that one kind of school can't offer all.

Green is no longer just a color. It is a new way of thinking about the world and a way of living your life. It’s
“Green Living” means:
Understanding that your choices affect(影响) not just you, but everybody everywhere.
Understanding that your choices affect not just today, but the future.
Understanding that when we talk about “saving the planet” or “saving the environment,” we are actually talking about saving ourselves!
You may be thinking: “Hey, I’m just one person, on a planet with billions. I can’t really make a difference.” Well, have you ever seen a group of people do “the wave(波浪)”? It always starts off with one or two people, jumping up and down like crazy. Soon thousands of people are joining in. “Going green” is just like that. It starts with small, simple actions. It can soon build into a wave that will change the whole planet and lead us all to healthier, happier lives.
Many students have already shared with us their efforts to help the environment:
Gabrielle, 12, writes, “I have helped my community plant a garden and I ride my bike or skateboard to school.”
Kaitlyn, 10, says, “Lots of paper towels are thrown away, so I use a reusable cloth towel to dry my hands instead.”
“I always recycle(重复利用)” says Natalie, 13. “You can call me a recycler! I always look at the bottom of things. I want to see whether they have the little sign that tells you it can be recycled. So I almost recycle everything!”
Now it’s your turn to think about how you can “go green”. Make important choices and take actions to improve the environment right around you and the health of the whole world.

I am Lisa, Dean studying in a high school and I’ve noticed that forests are disappearing.
You know, forests are disappearing around the world each year because of many different reasons including farming, tourism, pollution, etc. If we stop doing these things, there will be a good future for people of tomorrow.
Now I’m writing to ask you to help stop forests from disappearing. You can help by getting shops to stop selling paper made from trees and by persuading people not to use tree-free paper (paper not made from trees). This will help forests so much. There are many, many things we can do to help forests. If you would like to know more, please visit http.//www. Rainforestweb. Org/.By changing the little things, we can make a big difference.
If you would like to contact(联系)me, please see the above address or e-mail me at SunnyLisa@hotmail.com.Thank you for taking your time in reading this letter.
Yours sincerely,
Lisa, Dean

Man vs. Horse Marathon
This race takes place in a small town in Wales, about 200 miles from London. It's called a marathon(马拉松), but it’s actually 35.4 km, not 42.2 km like a usual marathon. People race against horses across the hills and mountains. It started in 1981, but a human did not win until 2004.

Caber Toss
In this sport, players compete to throw a large piece of wood called a caber as far as they can. There is no rule about the size of the caber, but it’s usually the size of a small tree. It's an ancient Scottish sport. Visitors to the UK can check it out.
Chess Boxing

Yes, but first they must become stars. Most performers star life with a group. This is the pattern nowadays. But there are many groups and competitions are hard. Groups appear and disappear almost overnight. Only a small number survive. Almost without exception they have to work very hard before they reach the top.
And very few reach the top and stay there. In England there are perhaps thirty or so groups at the top. Most of these do not earn so much money, perhaps 500 pounds each time they perform. What’s more, they have quite a lot of expenses(开销). They have to pay a manager, for example. He is the key person in their lives and takes about 20% of their earnings-perhaps more. Then there are their clothes, their instruments and their van. Sometimes they are still playing for the last two items.
And don’t forget, they have to travel a great deal-sometimes 2,000 miles in one week. At times they even sleep in their van instead of a hotel, just to save money.
So now, what do you think? Are pop-stars so rich? And do they have such exciting lives?
