Hi, everyone, my name is Isabella and I’m an artist and fashion designer. But today, I’m not here to specially talk to you about art or fashion. Today I want to talk to you about dreams and stories.
Did you know that 4-minute mile once thought to be impossible? It was something outside we can consider. But in 1954, a guy named Bannister achieved. 35 In the following two months, two other runners broke 4-minute record and in the following three years and 19 runners continued. And now, it’s common for an experienced runner to be able to run a mile under 4 minutes. It’s just that they didn’t think it was impossible any more.
So we should dream big. I have always to be encouraged to dream big. And I think when you’re very little and maybe don’t know any better it’s easier to do because there’s fearlessness before you become afraid of something. What did you want to be? A movie star, an actor or an astronaut. Maybe you didn’t achieve these dreams, as you got older. Because as you got older, you became afraid. It’s important to hold on your fearlessness just like a child. Because it’s fearlessness that helps us achieve our dreams.
I’m a big fan of what I called dream board. It’s just a piece of paper. There’re lots of pictures of things I would like to achieve and I put it in a place where I see it every day and that helps me. I started doing this a few years ago because I read a study in the US showing that people who made dream boards are more likely to achieve them. I know this may not be new or useful to everyone, but for me, the act of making my dream board every year and seeing it every morning really helps me.
Another thing that I really believe in is the world. I believe that once you have your dreams and begin to work for it, people start appearing in your life that can offer support and help… So let’s face it, there’s going to be a lot of challenges but to get through. I think courage is needed.
In conclusion, after all of this dreaming you have to work hard and put a lot of time into everything you’re doing and have courage because there’s going to be a lot of difficulty but just remember the world is trying to help you. I know that I’m not the only one that has dreams. Everybody has dreams. You just need to work hard to achieve them.
Thank you!

“It was my idea,” Johnny said, “so I would just do it without you.” Then he walked away in anger and left his friends Karen and Max alone.
“Wow, I didn’t expect he’d get so mad,” Karen said.
“Making a cardboard town needs a lot of work,” said Max, “Johnny can’t do it all by himself. Maybe if we give him some space, he’ll want us to help again.”
Johnny wanted the cardboard town done before New Year’s Day so that he could show it to all of his family when they came over, but New Year’s Day was only two weeks away. When he started again, he found it was just so big a job. He couldn’t make the buildings out of boxes, put them around the town, and decorate(装饰)them all by himself. It was too difficult.
“I guess that’s why people work together. When we each played a part, it was fun and everything went a lot faster. Maybe I should say sorry to my friends. They were just trying to help and have fun with me, “Johnny said to himself.
The next day at school Johnny said sorry to Karen and Max. “I don’t know why I got so mad. Will you come to my house tomorrow to complete our town?” Johnny asked. Karen and Max happily agreed. The three all took on a role and the town was done on time.

People were scared of him because he often bullied(欺负)villagers. At that time, a man-eating tiger and a deepwater monster(怪物) lived nearby. They often caused trouble for the village. People called them, along with Zhou, the "three evils"(三害).
One day, some villagers asked Zhou to help them kill the tiger and the monster. After three days of fighting, Zhou finally killed them and came back. But the villagers thought he was dead. They celebrated his death. After seeing this, Zhou realized how much he was hated and decided to make a change.
He visited a famous scholar(学者)named Lu Yim. Lu told him, If one realized what is good in the morning, he can change his behavior in the evening. Just do what you think is right." From then on, Zhou became a good person and stopped bullying others. Later he became a great soldier(战士)and died protecting his country.
Zhou Chu is a great example of the Chinese saying: "A prodigal who returns is more precious than gold." We all make mistakes. But it's never too late to correct them. On the other hand, we should also be more tolerant(宽容的)of those who sometimes make mistakes. Maybe they've made mistakes in the past, but they can do great things as long as they return to the right road.

【推荐3】When something goes wrong, it can be very pleasing to say. “Well, it’s so-and-so’s mistake.” or “I know I’m late, but it’s not my mistake; the bus was late.” It is probably not your mistake, but once you form the habit of blaming somebody or something else for a bad situation, you are a loser. You have no power and could do nothing that helps change the situation. However, you can have great power over what happens to you if you start thinking about how to improve the situation. This is the winner’s key to success.
Winners are great at solving problems. For example, if you were late because the bus was late, maybe you need to leave home early. Or, you might call a taxi or call friends for help when in need. For another example, if your workmate causes you problems on the job for short of responsibility or ability, find ways of dealing with his irresponsibility or inability. Ask to work with a different person, or leave some simple jobs to this person. You should accept that the person is not reliable.
This is what being a winner is all about—creatively using yow skills and wisdom so that you are successful no matter what happens. Winners don’t have fewer problems in their lives; they have just as many difficult situations to face as anybody else. They are just better as seeing those problems as challenges and chances to develop their own ability. So, stop thinking about “whose mistake it is.” Once you are confident about your power over bad situations, problems are just stepping stones for success.

Mr. Healthcliff is my only neighbor, and I think his characteris like mine. He does not like people either.
When I introduced myself, he said nothing, but frowned, and did not encourage me to enter. After a while, however, he decided to invite me in.
“Joseph!” he called. Joseph was an old servant (仆人). He looked crossly up at me as he took my horse. “God help us! A visitor!” he whispered to himself. Perhaps there were no other servants, I thought. And it seemed that Healthcliff hardly received guests.
His house is called Wuthering Heights. The name means “a windswept house on a hill”, and it is a very good description. The trees around the house are bent by the north wind, which blows fiercely every day of the year. Fortunfately, the house is strongly built, and is not damaged even by the worst winter storms.
Mr. Healthcliff and I entered the main room. We sat down by the fire, in scilence.
“Joseph!” shouted Mr. Healthcliff. No answer came from the cellar, so he rushed down there, leaving me with several fierce-looking dogs. Suddenly one of them jumped angrily up at me, and in a moment all the others were attacking me.
“Help! Mr. Healthcliff! Help!”I shouted. My landlord was nowhere to be seen, but luckily a woman ,who might be the housekeeper, rushed into the room to calm the dogs.
“What is the matter?” Mr. Healthcliff asked me rudely, as he finally entered the room, accompanied by his man -servant.
“Your dogs, sir!” I replied. “ You should leave a stranger with them. They’re dangerous.”
“Come, come, Mr. Lockwood. Have some wine. We don’t often have strangers here. I’m afraid neither I nor my dogs are used to receiving them.” I could not feel angry after this, and accepted the wine. We sat drinking and talking together for a while. I suggested visiting him tomorrow. He did not seem eager to see me again, but I shall go anyway. He seems a fascinating man.

Unless we spend money to spot(认出,发现) and prevent asteroids(小行星)now, one might crash into Earth and destroy life as we know it, say some scientists.
Asteroids are bigger versions of the meteoroids(流星体) that race across the night sky. Most orbit the sun far from Earth and don’t threaten us. But there are also thousands of asteroids whose orbits put them on a collision course with Earth.
Buy $500 million worth of new telescopes right now, they spend $10 million a year for the next 25 years to locate most of the space rocks. By the time we spot a fatal one, the scientists say, we’ll have a way to change its course.
Is it worth it? Two things experts consider when judging any risk are: (1) How likely the event is; (2) How bad the consequences if the event occurs. Experts think an asteroid big enough to destroy lots of life might strike Earth once every 500,000 years. Sounds pretty rare but if one did fall. It would be the end of the world. “If we don’t take care of these big asteroids, they’ll take care of us,” says one scientist. “It’s that simple. ”
The cure, though, might be worse than the disease. Do we really want fleets(队,车队) of nuclear weapons sitting around on Earth? “The world has less fear from doomsday rocks than from a great nuclear fleet set against them.” said a New York Times article.

A.It sounds practical but it may not solve the problem. |
B.It may create more problems than it might solve. |
C.It is a waste of money because a collision of asteroids with Earth is very unlikely. |

However, a new study shows that the drop in temperature is a good reason to run. In fact, running in cold weather helps improve one’s performance. Many runners might find it easier to run in winter than in hot weather.
Lower temperatures reduce stress on the body. When you run in cold weather, your heart rate is lower. And the body needs less water on a cold day than in warm weather because dehydration levels are lower in winter than in warmer conditions.
John Brewer is a professor of applied sports science at ST. Mary’s University in London. For this study, he and other researchers put a group of people into a room where summer and winter weather conditions are recreated. The test subjects, were asked to run 10,000 meters under both conditions and their biological measurements were recorded and studied.
From the study, every movement runners make produces heat. The heat can be really damaging unless the body can lose it. One way in which people lose heat is by sweating. The body loses heat through droplets of sweet. The body also loses it by transporting the blood to the surface of the skin and it puts more stress on the heart, particularly in hot conditions because it’s much harder to lose heat when the outside environment is warm. As the result shows running in hot temperatures results in 6 percent higher heart rates.
When running in cold conditions, the body does not have to work hard to pump blood to the skin surface. Therefore, it requires less energy. The most important thing for people who run in cold conditions is to wear the right clothing. Keep as dry as possible when exercising in low temperatures. Wear mittens on your hands instead of gloves. Wear more than one layer of clothing to keep sweat away from your skin. So don’t let winter weather keep you indoors. Simply get ready for the low temperatures and start running.

To help me with that task, Mrs. Pillar volunteered to come to the hospital and later to my house once a week. We began with basic maths skills. As time passed by, I made progress.
I remembered very vividly how she came to my home on Sundays, sat with me at the kitchen table, and threw different coins on the table. She asked me to show her 38 cents, 17 cents, 63 cents. It was challenging, but she also made it fun.
After a year and a half, I had progressed a lot, both in body and mind, to return to school. Seven years later, I graduated from the University of Texas at the top of my class.

Marie Kondo says people can improve their life by changing the way they think about all their things-everything from books and photos to clothes.
This is not the first time an organizing expert has written a book on clutter. They say wonderful things will happen when you organize your home. One book says that if you throw out 50 things from your home, you will truly find your life. Another book says that if you throw clutter away, you will also lose weight. And you can even get a better job, more money and a happy family if you organize the things. “Your self-perception(自我认知)is improved by living in a clean and tidy room,” she said. “This can change lifestyles and even your looks.”
Marie Kondo teaches a way of organizing. If the object(物品)was meaningful to you, you thank it before throwing or giving it away. Typhoons are some of the worst storms, usually around the Pacific Ocean and the South China Sea. Most happen in July, August and September.
How does a typhoon happen? When lots of sea water gets hot in the summer sun, it evaporates (蒸发)into the air. This makes the air hotter. When the air gets warm enough, it starts to move higher up into sky. Then cooler air around it rushes in. It fills the space that is left. After the air gets warmer, it starts to move quickly, making wind. The wind goes in circles(圆圈)and it keeps moving higher in the sky. The warmer the air gets, the quicker the wind moves. And when the wind moves faster than 30 metres a second, a typhoon begins.
A typhoon has two parts, one is called the “eye”. In the eye, the wind does not move so fast. The other part is the wall of clouds around the eye. Here are the strongest winds and hardest rains.
Typhoons are very dangerous. In November this year, Typhoon Haiyan killed 5500 people in Philippines. More people are missing.
What to do when a typhoon hits?
Stay inside. Close all the windows and stay away from them.
Try to bring all of your things inside. Strong winds could even blow away your bikes!
Listen to the radio or TV for important information.
