【推荐1】Recently, a study (研究), published in BMC Medicine, found that sitting in front of the TV for a long time was a risk for people’s health.

After scientists used data (数据) on 370, 000 people, covering 12 years, they found about 9, 000 developed heart disease. They found people with genes (基因) of heart problems were more likely to develop heart disease. However, they found that people without such genes watching more than four hours of TV every day were also at the greatest risk of heart disease. People spending 2 to 3 hours a day watching TV had a 6% lower risk. And those who watched less than an hour had a 16% lower risk. The scientists of the research team finally found cutting TV watching time to less than an hour a day could prevent 10% of heart disease.

In life, people who want “one more episode (剧集)” might be the group at a higher risk, for they are easy to spend more time watching TV. If they have more snacks while watching TV, it might add the risk of putting their hearts in danger. So, if people want to watch TV longer, standing up and moving the body, or hanging out will work. But limiting their time on TV could be a more useful way to help them avoid possible heart problems in the future.

【推荐2】When we hear the word shark, many people think of the great white shark. However, there is another shark I find interesting.

This shark is the hammerhead shark (锤头鲨). The hammerhead sharks are a group of sharks with flat (扁平的) hammer-shaped heads. It makes them so interesting, so they are called the hammerhead sharks. Actually there are nine different kinds of hammerhead sharks. The smallest is about three feet long. The largest hammerhead shark can grow to nearly 20 feet. They have an eye on each end of the “hammer”. It is good for them to look for food. Like all sharks, the hammerhead sharks have a great sense of smell. When a shark picks up the smell of its food, it can follow the smell for many miles until it finds its meal.

Most fish lay eggs, but sharks’ young ones are born alive. Mother hammerhead sharks give birth to as many as 40 or 50 young ones.

During the day, hammerhead sharks swim in the sea. At night, they usually look for food alone. Of the nine known types of hammerheads, only three can be dangerous to humans. The great hammerhead shark is among the most terrible fishes in the ocean. Even though they can be very dangerous animals, there have been less than 50 known hammerhead attacks (攻击) on humans. Still, I wouldn’t want to swim with one!

Care has grown these years about the number of some types of hammerhead sharks. One reason why they have become fewer is overfishing.

However, we can often see the elderly gathering around the boards with garbage sorting knowledge, but young people are hardly ever seen there. To make young people more involved in（参与到）garbage sorting, a lot of mobile programmes and games that spread the knowledge about it have come into being.

A 15-second video of a game became the hottest online in the past few days. In the video, there are four different kinds of garbage bins in front of players, and the players should throw different kinds of garbage into the corresponding bins to get scores.

This game appeared at the Mobile World Congress（世界移动通信大会）held in Shanghai last week. Although it wasn’t the only game there, it caught the most attention. “I’m in great need of this game. Maybe I won’t need to check how to sort garbage on my phone if I play this game more often,” Zhou Zhou says, a young woman from Shanghai.

Wu Xia, the CEO of the company that created the game, says, “We want to provide a simple and interesting way of learning garbage sorting. With it, people can practise garbage sorting without going through the rubbish in real life, and it also works better than paper materials when training garbage sorting volunteers.”

The garbage sorting game was launched（发布）on the Steam platform and China’s Tencent WeGame platform in August this year, according to Wu.

【推荐1】For most of us, the Arctic (北极地区) and the Antarctic (南极地区) are very far places. The Arctic is the most northern part of the earth and it is the area around the North Pole. The Antarctic is the most southern part of the earth and it is the area around the South Pole. Both of the places have a lot in common, but they are also different in many ways.

Both places are very, very cold. Both of them are covered with ice. Much of the ice there never melts (融化). You may be surprised to know there are not many snowstorms in either place. Small pieces of ice blow around and look like falling snow.

On every big difference is what is under the ice. Water is under most of the ice in the Arctic. Land is under most of the ice in the Antarctic. The Antarctic is a large continent (大陆). It has plains (平原), valleys and mountains. They are covered with ice.

The Arctic is warmer than the Antarctic. Small plants grow on the Arctic in summer. The Antarctic has almost no plants, because it is too cold. A few small plants grow there each summer.

Animals live in both places. Polar bears live in the Artic. Same foxes and wolves live there, too. Most animals can’t live in the Antarctic because it is too cold. However penguins (企鹅) can live there. There are some animals that can live in both places, such as whales.

Many people live in the Arctic. There are towns and small cities on the land areas. The Antarctic is so cold that nobody lives there for long. Scientists who study the Antarctic stay there while they are working. They live in special buildings and don’t spend much time outside.
