The next day, we entered the Strait of Jubail, which leads to the Gulf of Suez. A few hours, the captain told me that the Nautilus was about to enter the tunnel that led to the Mediterranean. It was difficult to enter the tunnel, so he steered the ship himself and invited me to watch. It was the first time I had been in the pilot’s dome. Captain Nemo turned on a powerful electric light, and we went slowly along a rock wall for about an hour. Then, I saw the opening of the tunnel, and the Nautilus entered it. The water flowed through the tunnel very quickly and carried the Nautilus along with it, and in only twenty minutes we were in the Mediterranean.
A day or two later, it came closer to the surface again. We were close to Crete. I was looking at the fish through the window with Captain Nemo when suddenly I saw a man swimming under the water. He swam to the window, and Captain Nemo made a sign to him. He swam away, and I did not see him again.
“That was Nicholas,” said the captain. “He lives on an island but he spends more time in water than on land.”
“Do you know him?” I asked.
“Why not, Dr. Aronnax?” He opened a cupboard and I saw that it was full of gold bars. He filled a large box with them, closed it, and wrote an address on it. Four men carried the box out of the room. I went back to my room. What was Captain Nemo doing?
Soon, I realized that the Nautilus was back on the surface, and I heard the dinghy leave. Two hours later, it returned, I wondered where they had taken the gold. I told Ned and Conseil about it. “Where does he get the gold, and where does it go?” we wondered.
Toward the end of the next day, it became very hot in the Nautilus. Captain Nemo explained that we were in a stream of boiling water. We were above an underwater volcano that was erupting. It was too hot to stay there long.

②The next morning my family and I made our way to the cathedral. It was just a five-minute walk from our hotel. On the roof, there are many statues (雕像). They are all about characters from Bible (圣经). Although many look lovely, I felt kind of scared when I saw a scary one. We climbed to the roof. There, we had an amazing view of the city and took lots of photos. Inside, we enjoyed the beautiful glass windows.
③We then walked to the La Scala, Milan’s world-famous opera house. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the inside is wonderful. Most of the greatest singers of the past 200 years sang there.
④Between the Duomo di Milano and La Scala is the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II hallway. We went there from the opera house. Some of the top fashion brands (品牌) have shops there. The only thing we could afford to buy was ice-cream. We waited in line, watching the server make it look like a rose. It tasted great, just like yogurt.

As the couple wheeled her up to me I was looking down at the register. I turned my head toward the girl and gave her a wink(眨眼示意). As I took the money from her grandparents, I looked back at the girl, who was giving me the most beautiful, largest smile I have ever seen.

But parents do a lot more than just pass along their hobbies.Moms and dads need to care for their kids from the minute they’re born. It’s a parent’s job to love and guide kids — and most parents will do this as long as they live, even when the “kids” are grown up and have children of their own.
Here are five ways you can stay close, get along, and build a strong relationship with your parents:
Spend time together. How much time do you spend just enjoying being together with them? Instead of playing a computer game or watching TV,maybe ask your mom and dad to play with you.Go outside together, try a board game,or read a book out loud.
Share your feelings and ask for help. Many kids say they’d like their parents to help them when they’re upset. But your mom or dad might not know that you’re having a problem.Talk to them and you’ll be glad you did.
Be kind.Little things might mean a lot to your mom or dad.You can brighten a parent’s day with a hug,a card,or a joke. It’s also lovely when a kid offers to help fold the laundry or cleans up his or her room without being asked.
Show you care. It’s important to show that you care for each other. In addition to kisses and hugs, kids and parents show their love by respecting each other, and being caring, polite, and thoughtful.
