There may be something in your food that you can't see and smell. But it could be killing you. It's called trans fat(反式脂肪).
Trans fat is usually taken from the hydrogenated( 氢化) vegetable oil. Food makers use this low-priced oil to make food stay fresh longer. It can be found in food such as cakes, fried food and so on. Studies have found that trans fat increases the risk of heart disease.
“Some countries have been stopping trans fat from being used, such as Denmark and a few states in the US. And it's really important that governments around the world change trans fat for healthier oils,” said Frieden, the head of the public health organization.
The WHO calls on governments to take some steps. These include changing trans fat for healthier oils, letting the public realize trans fat can have bad influence on people's health, and carrying out anti-tans fat laws.
If people stop eating foods made with trans fat, more than 17 million lives could be saved over the next 25 years.

But bad eating habits go beyond fast food. We find many teenagers eating unhealthily. Some don’t have breakfast before they go to school. During the day, some don’t have a right meal for lunch. The first public report on the novel coronavirus infection(传染) in China was the report of “unusual pneumonia (肺炎)” in Wuhan, Hubei province, at the end of December. At that time it was not identified as a coronavirus infection because it was a new disease.
A diagnosis (诊断) is like a piece of detective work. Experts try to match patterns between what a patient has and the patterns of known diseases. They then form a list of what is called “differential diagnoses”, and tests are conducted to confirm or refute (驳倒) certain diagnoses on that list.
When something doesn’t fit anything at all, it could be a new disease or an unusual pattern of some known disease.
Faced with (面对) a new disease, doctors face many difficulties and the task of diagnosing the disease is usually time- and energy-consuming(费时费力).
One can look to the Minamata disease, a neurological (神经学的) disorder, first discovered in Japan in 1956. At first, it was believed to be an infectious disease. Eight months later, it was determined that the disease was a result of mercury (水银) pollution in a river caused by a factory upstream (在上游).
What this pandemic has taught us is the importance of cooperation (团结合作) among the people of the world. Assigning blame for the outbreak is not going to help in dealing with the crisis. International Cooperation in containing the spread of the virus and ultimately finding a cure is the answer.
As John Donne, an English writer of the 16th century, once said, “No man is an island, entire of himself.” Imagine for a moment that those in the wealthier countries manage to contain the virus, and no help is given to those in the poorer countries. Because we are all interconnected, the virus would still spread back to those rich nations.
China has initiated the overseas delivery of medical supplies and equipment to help fight the virus, only to earn suspicions of ulterior motives (别有用心).
After World War II, the United States sent a lot of food aid to Asia. Was that done on humanitarian grounds or motivated by soft-power ambitions? Instead of pointing fingers at each other, we must operate as one people helping one another.
If we don’t learn from our past mistakes, we are bound to repeat them. That would do great damage to the people of the world and be an affront (冒犯) to those who died in the pandemic.
