In October 2016, the government chose our neighborhood to be part of a pilot(试点的)program for garbage sorting. To help the program run smoothly, we set up a volunteer team. I am one of the volunteers. Several of us, however, doubted whether we could lead people in the building to change their habits.
We began with the usual methods. We posted notices around the neighborhood. We also went door to door, spreading the word.
However, they made plenty of mistakes. For example, many didn’t know wet garbage meant food waste. Instead, they thought it meant that was wet. Some even refused to sort their garbage.
As a result, we volunteers had to do lots of sorting ourselves. At the same time we went around explaining the rules. We kept talking to those who refused to sort their garbage. We let them know we had sorted their garbage for them. It was a matter of time and patience. We believed they would finally change their mind.
Six months later we were successful in changing people’s mind. People in my building had begun sorting in their garbage. Some even joined us to sort garbage that was sorted improperly.
I think face-to-face talks played an important role. Sometimes, these talks led us to conflict(冲突), but they were much more effective(有效的)than notices and flyers(小传单). It was interesting to see what happened. I hope everyone knows garbage sorting is good for them.

Many years later finally saw the Leaning Tower . I knew then that it was Pisa and no pizza. But there was still something special about it for me. The tower got its name because it really does lean to one side. Some people want to try to fix it. They are afraid it may fall over and they don't like it leans over city.
I do not think it's a good idea to try to fix it. The tower probably will not fall down. It is 600 years old. Why should anything happen to it now? And , if you ask me, I like what it looks like. To me it is a very human kind of leaning. Nothing is perfect, it seems to say.
And who cares? Why do people want things to be perfect? Imperfect things may be more interesting. Let's take the tower in Pisa. Why is it so famous? There are many other older, more beautiful towers in Italy. But Pisa tower is the most famous. People come all over the world to see it.

Think about it. When you're driving in a car down the road. you may be going 80 km an hour or faster. Then somebody ahead of you locks up his or her brakes(刹车). You don't have time to stop. Your car knocks into that one. Now it has suddenly stopped. Your body, however, is still going 80 km an hour. What's going to stop your body? Will it be the windshield(挡风玻璃)or your seat belt? Every time you get into a car, you make that choice. I choose the seat belt.
Some people think that seat belts are uncool. They think that seat belts are uncomfortable. To them I say, what's more uncomfortable? Wearing a seat belt or flying through a car windshield? What's more uncool? Being protected by your car, or flying down to the road in your jean shorts? Wearing a seat belt is both cooler and more comfortable.
Let's just take a closer look at your choices. If you are not wearing your seat belt, you can get in and out of your seat easily. That sounds like a lot of fun. But, you are also more likely to get hurt really badly or even die. If you are wearing a seat belt, you have to stay in your seat. That's no fun. But, you are much more likely to walk away unharmed from a car accident. Hmmm.... A small pleasure or a serious pain. That's a difficult choice. I think that I'll avoid the serious pain.
How about giving money away? Do you lie to give your money away? Probably not. And when you don't wear your seat belt, you are beginning to give your money away. That's because kids are required(要求) to wear seat belt in every state in America. If you're riding in a car, and you don't have a seat belt on, the police can give you or your driver a ticket. I'd rather keep my money, but you can spend yours however you want.
Wearing a seat belt does not make you safe all the time. You can still get hurt or killed while wearing your seat belt. But wearing seat belts has turned out to be safer than going without them. You are much less likely to be killed in a car accident if you are wearing a seat belt. You are much less likely to get seriously injured if you are wearing one. So why not take the safer way? Why not go the way that has turned out to result in fewer deaths? You do want to live, don't you?

A.it is dangerous to drive fast. |

A.have to give money away |
B.go to see movies about traffic accidents |
C.have to stay in his seat |

B.many people don't like seat belts because they look uncool. |

Famous Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu drew our attention because of a one-hour documentary on BBC Four-Du Fu: China’s Greatest Poet.
The documentary was hosted by Michacl Wood, a British historian and teacher of University of Manchester. He not only tells the hard life of Du Fu, but also follows his footsteps and retraces (重走) his path, including Xi’an, Chengdu and Changsha. To better introduce the poems to Western people, Wood invited British actor Sir Ian McKellen to read in English 15 poems and articles translated from Du Fu.
In the film, Wood not only uses “the greatest” to describe Du Fu, but also puts him in the same literary league (文学范畴) as Dante and Shakespeare. “There is no such person in the West as Du Fu.” said Wood. “He is more than a poet. He wrote down the people’s hearts and the nation’s history. That’s why he was honored as a Poet Sage (诗圣). “This documentary is welcomed in Britain. Some people have shown more interest in China and Chinese poems after watching the documentary. “We got quite a few letters from people saying they were strongly influenced to read more poems by Du Fu.” said Wood.
