For him, the medal stands as an honor for his family. “Whenever I see my great-grandfather’s medal, I feel very proud. In my heart, my great-grandfather is a hero,” said Guo.
Food coupons (粮票) Xiao Yao won first prize in the activity. Her heirlooms are some food coupons. Her grandma used to tell her stories about food shortages (短缺) when she was a kid. Back then, people could only get a little food each month. She said, “My grandma wants me to be thankful for what we have today and work hard for a better tomorrow.”
