1 . Jane Goodall is a famous scientist. For more than 40 years, Goodall had lived mostly in Tanzania in East Africa, studying chimpanzees (黑猩猩).
As a young child, Jane Goodall was interested in animals. She grew up in the English countryside and was always climbing trees or riding horses.
When Jane was 23, she got a chance to go to Africa. Even though she had never been to college, she got a job with a famous scientist named Louis Leakey.
One day Louis Leakey said he needed a volunteer. He needed someone to go to a lake in Tanzania to study a kind of chimpanzees. Jane was excited. On July 16th, 1960, she began her exploration (探索). At first, the chimpanzees ran away from Jane. But with time passing, they got used to her being around.
Every day, Jane would follow the chimpanzees, taking notes on their behaviors. She learned many new things about chimpanzees. She watched how a chimpanzee made a tool. She learned how some chimpanzees became good leaders. She watched how mother chimpanzees raised their children. She watched animals get angry and get upset. 4 . During the summer holiday, some students might have been busy with traveling, summer camps and all kinds of lessons, but a special group of Chinese middle school students decided to taste the hardship (艰难) of life outside school.
Twelve students in a big city sold vegetables at a local market together. In 12 days, they made more than 1,500 yuan. Among them, the oldest is 21 years old, while the youngest is just 10. They are all cousins in a big family and eight of them are from countryside. “Compared to traveling, such social practice makes us learn how hard our parents are,” said Dalin, 18, to the City Morning Newspaper. Dalin, a high school student, and her 12-year-old brother Xiaolin had the idea about selling vegetables.
They learned to work hard to sell their vegetables. Every morning they had to wake up at 3 o’clock. Some of them went to the farmer’s market to buy vegetables. Some of them went to the local market to take up a temporary stall (临时摊位). To lower the cost, they learned to bargain (讲价) with the sellers. At about 16:30, they began to sell vegetables. They peddled (吆喝) loudly to attract (吸引) customers. After several days, they got some experience, too. For example, it was better to put vegetables in order and bigger ones on top. When the vegetables are too heavy, they should give customers more plastic bags (塑料袋).

I am a big fresh fruit eater. It is unusual for a 15-year-old boy. I love apples, nectarines, bananas, and oranges. I never skip breakfast. For me, it’s the most important meal of the day. At school, I only have soup and sometimes an apple. I usually come home at around 3 o’clock and I have a vegetable salad. When I eat out, I also try to choose healthy dishes, but sometimes I can’t resist (抵挡) some delicious cookies (曲奇饼).
Rashida Ross
My mom’s rule for eating is to have salad with every meal. I try to do what my mom does with fruit and vegetables. I know it’s good for me.
