Soon they were cooking more, eating fewer desserts, and spending less time watching TV. Mrs. Biden realized that making little changes can have a big effect (效果)。

A huge fire at a 13-story apartment building in Kaohsiung has killed 46 people and injured (受伤的) at least 41 people.
The fire broke out at about 3 a.m. on Thursday morning, October 14th, 2021. Neighbors said they heard an explosion (爆裂声). Nearby video cameras showed a bright flash (闪光) on the first floor. The fire quickly climbed to the higher floors. It took firefighters four hours to put the fire out.
There were shops on the building’s lower floors, but about 120 families, including many poor and older people, lived on the upper floors. Many had trouble getting out of the building safely.
The building was built in the 1980s, and it experienced a smaller fire in 1999. After that fire, some of the building’s residents (居民) simply moved on, leaving the broken building behind. Off and on, a number of people moved into the empty rooms, living there without paying rent (房租). Before the recent fire, the upper floors were full of people, and many of them were old and poor with physical disabilities.
Recent pictures show that the building was in bad shape. Trash was everywhere in many areas, where the fire was especially strong.
The local government is finding new homes for those who were affected (受影响) by this fire. Firefighters are still working to discover the cause of the fire.
