1 . Children know that summer is probably the most fun of all seasons. However, experts say it is also the most dangerous, especially for children aged 14 and under. In its first study of children’s safety in the US, the National Safe Kids Campaign (NSKC) found that nearly half of the accidents even deaths(死亡) among children happened in summer.
Experts are not surprised by the study’s results. They always know summer is a dangerous season for children. During the summer, children are out of school and spend more time outdoors. They might get into an accident or get hurt. “While we encourage children to be active and spend more time outdoors, they need to understand the importance of safety,” said Everett Koop, an expert of the NSKC.
To help children stay safe, the NSKC started a “Make it a Safe Kids Summer” campaign during National Safe Kids Week, from May 5 through May 12. Here are some important summer safety tips from the NSKC:
●Make sure there is an adult(成年人) around when you decide to go swimming.
●Wear a life jacket when on a boat or doing water sports.
●Following all traffic rules.
●Don’t meet e-pals(网友) alone.

From the lower floors of the buildings, escaping through windows is possible. You have to learn the best way of leaving by windows with the least chance of serious hurt.
The second floor window is usually not very high from the ground. It is about the height of an average man. Of course, it is safer to jump a short way than to stay in a burning building.
Windows are also useful when you are waiting for help. Be sure to keep the door closed, or smoke and fire may be drawn into the room. Keep the window open and keep your head low at the window to be sure you get fresh air rather than smoke that may leak (渗) into the room.
On a second or third floor, the best windows for escape are those that open onto a roof. From the roof a person can drop to the ground more safely. Dropping onto cement (水泥) might end in injury. Bushes (灌木丛) and grass can help to break a fall.

Chinese children are weak in reading because they read much less than what they should do. Although Chinese parents try their best to send their children to all kinds of after school classes, they give no attention to children’s reading ability.
The parents are ready to spend a lot of money on children’s education. Most Chinese families spent more than 30% of their income(收入) on education. And the number is still growing, But spending on children’s books is even less than that on toys and clothing. A survey shows that 58% of Chinese parents spend more than 30 yuan on their children’s reading every month.
