1 . Now in different places of the world, people are doing different things.

In Beijing, it’s early morning. People are sleeping.

In London, people are leaving work to go home. They are waiting for buses or trains. Some people are driving their cars. Some are having afternoon tea at home or walking to the pubs(酒吧) to have a drink.

In Moscow, it’s evening and people are having supper at home or in restaurants. Some are going to watch a ballet(芭蕾舞) . Some are drinking in the pubs.

In Los Angeles(洛杉矶) , it’s morning. People are working in their offices. Children are starting their lessons.

New York is noon now. People aren’t working but having lunch. They are eating hamburgers or hot dogs and drinking coffee or Coke. Some people are seeing friends or shopping.

2 . John Smith works in a basketball club. He gets up at 5: 30 every day. After that, he runs. At 8: 00, he eats breakfast.        

Tom White is a writer. He works at home. He gets up at 8: 00 in the morning. He usually reads books for two hours after breakfast.

Mary Green is a music teacher. She gets up at 6: 00 every morning. Then she eats breakfast. She lives at school but doesn’t live with her parents.        

Mona Black is a clerk (职员). She works at a clothes store. She usually gets up at 6: 30. After breakfast she goes to the store.

3 . When you are in England, you must be very careful (小心的) in the streets because the traffic (车辆) goes on the left. Before you cross a street, you must look to the right first and then the left.

If the traffic lights are red, the traffic must stop. Then the people on foot can cross the road. If the traffic lights are green, the traffic can go. People on foot mustn’t cross.

In the morning and in the evening when people go to or come from work, the streets are very busy. Traffic is the most dangerous then.

When you go by bus in England, you have to be careful, too. Always remember: the traffic moves on the left. Have a look first, or (否则) you will go the wrong way.

In many English cities, there are big buses with two floors. You can sit on the second floor. From there you can see the city very clearly. It’s very interesting.

4 . Today is a fine day. Mr Smith and his family are in the park now. On their right, there is a cafe. On their left, there is a big lake. There is a small hill behind the lake. Near the lake, there is a sign. It says “Don’t swim in the lake!” There is a beautiful garden in the middle of the park. There are many flowers in it. Between the lake and the garden, there are many tall trees and some small shops.

7 . Trees are important and they can help us in many ways. However, some of them are in danger and need to be taken care of as much as possible. There are some ways to save trees.

Use paper wisely. We can save trees by using paper in a right way. What can we do? Use both sides of paper when doing homework. Borrow books to read when you needn’t buy them. Never throw old books away, but be kind to donate them to others who need them. In place of paper towels, use cloth towels.

Plant trees. To save trees, it’s a great idea to plant them. Spring is the best season to plant trees. If everyone around us does it, millions of trees will appear and make our world become green and beautiful.

Tell people to understand the importance of trees and help save trees. Try to write letters to government official(官员) and persuade(劝) them to use as little paper as they can.

Do you love street food? I’m sure you do! What makes the food sweet? Sugar, of course! Do you know anything about sugar? Most sugar comes from sugar cane (甘蔗). This kind of plant is very tall.

How do we make sugar from sugar cane?

First, farmers cut the top of the plant and put part of the plant in the earth. This will grow into more sugar cane.

Next, workers make the sugar cane into big machines. One machine washes the cane. One machine cuts and turns the cane over and over. And one machine gets the sweet juice from the cane.

Then, workers make the juice hot and it becomes thick (浓稠的). The thick juice is called syrup (糖浆). Workers put the syrup into the crystallization tank (结晶罐). It turns to crystals (晶体). We need one more machine to dry the crystals. Now we have sugar.

Sugar can be brown or white. It can also be in different sizes. Then the sugar can go to the sweet factory (工厂). There workers use it to make sweets.

9 . My school has a big library. It’s on the first floor of the school building. There are thousands of books in it. It has books of all subjects. It has a lot of storybooks and newspaper, too. Our classrooms are on the second to fifth floor.

10 . In England, people often talk about the weather because they can experience (经历) four seasons in one day. In the morning the weather is warm just like in spring. An hour later black clouds come and then it rains hard. The weather gets a little cold. In the late afternoon the sky will be sunny，the sun will begin to shine, and it will be summer at this time of a day.

In England, people can also have summer in winter, or have winter in summer. So in winter they can swim sometimes, and in summer sometimes they should take warm clothes.

When you go to England, you will see that some English people usually take an umbrella (伞) or a raincoat with them in the sunny morning, but you should not laugh at them.

If you don’t take an umbrella or a raincoat, you will regret (后悔) later in the day.
