Nowadays people carry out all kinds of leisure activities. Travelling is one of people’s favorite leisure activities. People usually travel in their spare time. Some like to travel abroad. Some like to travel around the country. To be safe, what should we do when travelling? Here are some suggestions.

Before Leaving

Choose the right food, fruits and drinks. Before you prepare the food, fruits and drinks, the first thing you need to think about is how long you will travel with the food, fruits and drinks. If you take a long trip, you should bring food such as bread, fruit juice and some fruit. They are not easy to go bad. If you are on a short trip, you can bring some fish, meat, eggs, milk and vegetables. Also, you have to prepare umbrellas and medicine and so on. It is necessary to take some medicine with you. It can be used when you get sick or have other problems. You need to prepare comfortable shoes and hats if you plan to do lots of walking or climbing during your trip.

While Travelling

Be sure not to eat dirty food or bad fruit. If you eat dirty food and bad fruit, you may get sick.

Have enough time to have a rest during your trip. If you are too tired, you may feel uncomfortable.

Running water is not safe. Remember to drink boiled water and always clean the cover of the bottle.

Keep food in good condition. If you take hot food, you should try to keep it hot. If you need to keep cold food, you can put cold food into a box with ice. When you arrive, put cold food in the fridge.

4 . They exist in every school. Some use words, and others use physical violence(暴力). No matter what the methods are, the result is the same: bullies make you feel bad and make going to school a lot more difficult. What can you do about them? Luckily, dealing with bullies is not as hard as you think. Just follow these simple steps, and there is a good chance you will survive the bullies at your school without getting hurt.

The first step to take when dealing with bullies is to understand them. Most bullies make others feel bad so they feel better about themselves. Their main goal is to make you upset so they feel in control. The best way to deal with this is to avoid them all together. Don’t walk near them, change your seat in class, or if they come up to you, walk away. If you can successfully ignore(对……不予理睬) a bully for a few days, you will probably be left alone.

When it is impossible to ignore the bully, you will have to take further steps. Bullies prefer to target kids who they think are weak and vulnerable. The next time you see a bully, pretend to feel very brave and confident. If the bully says something to you, say “Stop it!” in a strong voice and walk away. If you see a bully picking on someone else, do the same. Bullies normally do not like confrontation(对抗).

If they still pick on you, the next step is to report the bully to a teacher. Bullies have been around for a long time, so experienced teachers will know how to deal with them. The bully will get into trouble and the teacher will get ready to be on watch all the time.

Bullies can give you big trouble. However, if you act quickly, you can almost always prevent them from bothering(烦扰) you. Just remember to never get in a fight with a bully. Fighting will almost always make the situation worse. Be smart when dealing with bullies and you should survive without getting hurt!

5 . Now I’m studying in the US, and I find there are some differences between schools in the US and in Korea.

One big difference is the clothes students wear at school and how they look. In my country, all the students should wear uniforms when they go to school. Boys aren’t allowed to have long hair. Girls aren’t allowed to have long or colored nails.

Another difference is about the rules for parents. In Korea, when we begin a new year, our parents have to go to a meeting in our class. If they don’t go to that meeting, their children won’t have a grade or a report card from school.

However, in the US, there aren’t such strict rules above.

In Korea, a class is only 45 minutes and we have only five classes each weekday. When the bell rings, all the students can just stay in their classroom. They can’t move to a different room, but students in the US can.

In Korea students can’t go to work because they can’t find a job if they’re under 18. But in the US, many students work after school. This helps them make money. More importantly, this helps them become more independent. They’re able to do things by themselves in their own way, without asking other people for help.

8 . When we think of paper, we think of newspapers and books. But there are many other uses. Only half of the world’s paper is used for books and newspapers.

Paper is very good for keeping you warm. You have perhaps seen homeless men sleep on large number of newspapers. In Finland, it is sometimes -40℃ in winter. The farmers wear paper boots(靴子) in the snow. Nothing could be warmer.

Each year, more and more things are made of paper. We have had paper cups and plates for a long time. But now we hear that chairs, tables, and even beds can be made of paper. Besides paper boots and shoes, you can wear paper hats, paper dresses, and paper raincoats. When you have use them once, you may throw them away and buy new ones.

The latest use of paper seems to be paper houses. These are not small houses for children to play in, but real, big houses for people to live in. You can buy a house with three rooms for about 500 dollars. You can put it up by yourself in a few hours, and you can use it for about five years.

9 . In ancient China, willow branches（柳枝） were often used as a gift to friends and family members who would leave. Do you know why willow branches are a symbol of saying goodbye?

One reason is that willow trees are strong. They can live in any soil, wet or dry, north or south. Because of this special feature, when saying goodbye to loved ones, giving a willow branch is a way to tell them you hope they will easily get used to their new living environment.

Another reason is that, in Chinese, the pronunciation for the willow tree “柳” is similar to the character “留”. So giving a willow branch in ancient China was like asking the others to stay, even though you know that they must leave.

It’s said that this custom became popular during the Han Dynasty. At that time, Baqiao, a bridge in Chang’an, today’s Xi’an, was a common place to say goodbye. People often stopped there and handed willow branches to people who were going to depart.

Willow branches, as a symbol of saying goodbye, were often mentioned in poems, especially at the time of the Tang and Song dynasties.

10 . Every year there is Spring Festival in China. Usually it is in January or February. It is the most important festival in China. So before it comes, everyone has to prepare things. They buy pork, beef, chicken, fruits and many other things. And they often make a special kind of food—dumplings. It means “come together”. On the day before the festival, parents buy new clothes for their children. Children also buy presents for their parents. On the Spring Festival Eve, all the family members come back to their hometown. This is a happy moment. Some sing and dance, some play cards and others get the dinner ready. When they enjoy the meal, they give each other the best wishes for the coming year. They all have a good time.
