1 . Here comes the year 2023, the Year of the Rabbit! Rabbits are quiet, smart in Chinese culture. Many Chinese good sayings have rabbits in them. I’m sure you will come up with a few when you’re reading this sentence.
In Chinese culture, the rabbit stands for the moon. People used to believe a rabbit was living on the moon. The rabbit is called the Jade Rabbit or the Moon Rabbit. It’s the pet of the moon goddess Chang’e. It makes medicine by grinding herbs (捣草药). Rabbits can have a lot of babies in a short time. In this way, people in the past also saw the rabbit as a good sign. They believed having more children could bring them luck and happiness.
Western people also see the rabbit as a sign of good luck. They believe a rabbit’s foot can bring good luck to its holder. This may go back to an old tradition. When teenage hunters caught rabbits to provide food for the people, getting the rabbit foot means they are welcomed as both hunters and adults. Rabbits also show up in other areas of Western culture. In the book Alice in Wonderland, Alice follows a rabbit to get away from her world and start her adventure (冒险). There is the Easter Bunny, too. Rabbits are close to the idea of new life because they have lots of babies. The night before Easter, kids often make nice little homes in their gardens for the Easter Bunny.

Why is music so important to children? Here are some of my thoughts on the subject.
Music has a positive (积极的) effect on young children’s development! New research shows that music has a good influence on young children’s cognitive (认知的) skills, such as spatial reasoning (空间推理) and memory. Research also shows that offering children an interesting environment can support children’s healthy growth and development.
Young children enjoy making music with others! Making music with others gives children a wonderful feeling of belonging to the group. Children might have difficulty joining in activities with others because they are shy, have limited language ability or special needs, but they can freely take part in a music activity.
Music makes young children happy! Children seem to experience much pleasure and joy when listening to music, making music and dancing to music. Whether they are singing along to a CD, playing an instrument or dancing to music around the classroom, most children seem to enjoy participating in a music activity. How wonderful it is to offer children the chance to take part in some activities about music!
The activities can make children feel relaxed.

3 . Nobody likes a bully (恶霸). But bullying is a big problem around the world. According to the US National Bullying Prevention Center, one fifth students in the US have been bullied.
Nathan Fellars is an eighth grade student at Centennial Middle School in Utah, US. When he saw classmates being bullied, he knew he had to do something. “People often deal with bullying after the bullying has happened. I wanted to see if there was a way to reduce (减少) bullying before it happens at all,” Fellars told the Society for Science.
After studying more about the causes (起因) of bullying, he had an idea to make the app Bully Block. On the app, students can share their lives, whether good or bad. Others can then post responses (回复). But before the responses are posted, an AI program reads all of them. Only positive (积极的) words will be shown. Fellars believes that this will naturally stop bullying both online and in schools.
“I would love to see my app be used by teachers and students,” said Fellars. “I love knowing that it can help somebody else in the world.” Do you think Fellars’ dream can come true? Do you want to be a person like Fellars?

8 . ChatGPT, a smart AI tool, has swept the education world in the past months. According to a US survey of more than 1,000 students, over 89 percent of them have used ChatGPT to help with their homework.
Developed by US company OpenAI, ChatGPT is a powerful tool. You can ask it to write stories and emails, create a food menu, translate languages, and answer all kinds of questions.
Some schools in the US, Australia and France have banned(禁止)the use of ChatGPT. In the US, for example, New York City public schools banned students and teachers from using ChatGPT on the networks and devices(设备), CNN reported. Why? ChatGPT makes it easier for students to cheat on their homework. Some also worry that ChatGPT could be used to spread information that is not true.
Apart from bans, teachers are making changes to their classes to cut off the use of ChatGPT. Some college teachers in the US try to include more speaking exams and handwritten papers instead of homework done on computer, The New York Times reported.

Parents are the closest people to you in the world. But a lot of middle school students have a problem. They feel they’re not as close to their parents as before. They even don’t think their parents are fair to them.
Some students complain that their parents often say a lot to them, but never listen to them. Some say their parents don’t allow them to play computer games when other classmates are doing that. Others say when they’re making phone calls to friends, their parents like to ask if they’re speaking to a boy or a girl. These make them very unhappy. Some students even decide to leave home because they’re afraid to tell their parents when they have done something wrong, especially when they do badly in exams. Then they usually think running away is the only choice (选择). But they don’t know running away may bring them some more problems.
Problems are parts of life. Here are some suggestions for you to solve your problems.
