Students in many schools of the United States often do worse in exams in the hot months of the year (July and August).

Weather also has a strong influence on people’s feelings. Winter may be a bad time for thin people. They usually feel cold during these months. They might feel unhappy during cold weather. But fat people may have a hard time in hot summer.

2 . Bad days happen to many of us. Something makes us sad, angry, frustrated or disappointed. But you still have to get up and go to work. Everything others say to you sounds stupid. Everyone seems to annoy you. Luckily, you can do something about it. Here are some ways to turn around a bad day.

Accept your bad mood

Being in a bad mood is not that hard. If you’re mad, be mad. If you’re sad, be sad. This does not give you license to be rude and unpleasant to others. It just means that you need to recognize and accept your bad mood to be able to do something.

Tell others

You can try to keep your bad mood a secret and put on your happy mask. But you’re fooling nobody. The best thing to do is to tell the people you work closely with. Simply tell them, “Listen, I’m in a really bad mood today. I’m not sure why, but it has nothing to do with you. If I bite your head off, I apologize in advance.”

Remember the good

Spend a few moments to try thinking of at least one or two things that aren’t all bad. Something you look forward to, such as a person you like at work or something nice that happened recently.

Take some quiet time

Take a walk in your lunch break. Sit and work somewhere quiet. Take a long bathroom break. Consider going home early or taking the day off.

1. If you’re in a bad mood, you should ________.
A.be rudeB.be unhappyC.accept itD.be angry
2. The underlined phrase “bite your head off” means “________” in Chinese.
A.咬掉你的脑袋B.对你发脾气C.不理你D.打你
3. When you’re unhappy, ________ may help.

C.keeping it a secretD.doing nothing
4. A quiet place may ________ when you’re in a bad mood.
A.make you betterB.make you lonelyC.trouble youD.make you sad
5. The passage mainly tells us ________.
A.how to get along with othersB.how to deal with the bad mood
C.everyone has bad daysD.bad days are not bad

4 . My grandfather is eighty years old. He always complains (抱怨) about how fast things have changed, and he often says that life used to be better.

And mothers used to stay at home and take care of their children, but now everyone is busy working. No one has time to look after their children at home.

And the cars! No one walks any more. More and more people drive. We used to walk five miles to school on school days, even in winter. But now students don’t. And at school, children don’t have to think anymore. In Maths class, for example, we used to add, subtract, multiply and divide by using our heads. But now kids don’t use their heads any more. Instead, they use calculators.

Most families have computers now. In the past we didn’t have computers. We didn’t even have lights. My mother used to spend all day cooking in the kitchen. But now we don’t often eat home-cooked food.

7 . Wentian, the first lab module of China’s space station, was connected with the Tianhe core module (核心舱) successfully.

Wentian lab is expected to develop space science, technology and research applications greatly. With a weight of 23 tons and a length of 17.9 metres, Wentian is the world’s longest single-body manned space-craft, setting a new world record for China’s aerospace industry.

Wentian will serve as a space life science research lab, making use of the microgravity (微重力) in space, to do many experiments that would be impossible on the ground. It will also be used for some basic research on humankind’s journey from the Earth into space. For the Tianhe core module, as well as being a research lab, Wentian also has backup systems (备份系统) for the station’s normal operations.

Besides, Wentian provides one more exit, one more kitchen, as well as three sleeping zones for the astronauts, thus greatly extending the living and working space for them.

The world’s first space station, the Soviet Union’s Salyut 1, was launched in 1971 and the International Space Station, headed by the United States, Russia and other countries, was launched in 1998, providing a good platform for the participants to do experiments there. In 2020, NASA announced 20 scientific research achievements for the past 20 years of the ISS’ history, and six of them have something to do with life science research in space. There was a time when China had little chance of doing such research. Now China can.

Looking back over the last 10 years, we can clearly find the steps for China’s space research. The Shenzhou series of spaceships has progressed from DC to XIV, while the space station is finally coming into service. Besides, there is also Mars rover (火星车) Zhu Rong, Xihe (China’s first solar exploration satellite), as well as the Chang’e lunar probe. The Chinese are adding more footprints in space.

A.It’s price.B.It’s weight.C.It’s length.D.Both B and C.
2. What does the underlined word “operations” probably mean?

3. How many per cent of scientific research is achieved by space research according to NASA’s announcement?
A.6%.B.20%.C.30%.D.26%.
4. What is the correct structure of the passage? (①=Paragraph 1 ②=Paragraph 2 …)
