文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了电子竞技第一次走入亚运会的情况,但想成为职业电竞选手是不容易的。

1 . For the first time in its history, the 18th Asian Games, which took place in Jakarta, Indonesia from Aug 18 to Sept 2, 2018, had e-sports as an event.

Players from 27 countries and regions, including China and Japan, competed in six different video games, such as Hearthstone (《炉石传说》)and League of Legends (《英雄联盟》). E-sports events have appeared in the 2022 Asian Games (held in 2023) as an official competitive program.

So does this mean that kids now have a new excuse to play video games?

Not exactly. For one thing, not everyone agrees that e-sports qualify as actual competitive sports. Some people believe sports should be more physical to count as “real” sports, the BBC reported. Second, not everyone who plays video games can become a professional (职业的) e-sports athlete.

Just like any other sports competitor, you need to have exceptional (特别突出的) skills, such as being able to quickly analyze a situation and think on your feet (反应迅速). “Only those who are top players in their games can become professional athletes,” said Wu Meng, 26, champion of the 2014 NetEase E-sports League.

And just like any other athlete, one has to put in a lot of hard work and training to compete in e-sports.

“Every day, I train for up to 15 hours, from 9 am to 12 am,” said Zhang Chi, 20, a player in China’s King Pro League. “It can be very tiring. Some players even seriously injure their back and shoulders,” Zhang added.

1. When did E-sports become an event at Asian Games?
A.In 2014.B.In 2018.C.In 2022.D.In 2023.
2. What do we know from the article?
A.China didn’t take part in the 18th Asian Games.
B.E-sports provide kids a new excuse to play video games.
C.It’s not easy to become a professional E-sports player.
D.E-sports players needn’t work as hard as sports players.
3. Which of the following may Wu Meng want to say to the young people?
A.If you like playing video games, you can be an E-sports player.
B.If you are talented in e-sports, you will be a top player.
C.You have to be prepared for hard training if you want to become an E-sports player.
D.You have to injure your back and shoulders when you train to be an E-sports player.

文章大意:本文主要讲述了在我们的生活中,我们经常容易陷入“比较陷阱”,从而影响自己,因此我们应该关注自己的成就,和自己比较。

3 . Do you often compare yourself to other people? Whether it’s the number of goals you’ve scored at football or how many books you’ve read, it’s easy to compare yourself to someone else. It’s a natural behavior that helps humans learn from each other, live happily together and achieve more. However, it s not always helpful and you can find yourself fall in a comparison trap (陷阱). This is when you always measure yourself against others and base your feelings on how well they seem to be doing.

Comparison can make us feel good and bad about ourselves. “Comparing up” means seeing someone is better than you and using that to encourage yourself to aim higher and try harder. However, sometimes it can make you feel rubbish about yourself and undermine your confidence. “Comparing down” is when you see someone who seems like they’re not doing as well as you. This might make you feel you’re doing well, but it can also stop you wanting to improve.

How do you escape comparison trap? If your feelings depend on what other people are doing, always stay with cheerleaders. Notice how people make you feel and spend time with friends who celebrate your strengths rather than compare themselves to you. If you follow social media (媒体) accounts that make you feel you are failing in any way, unfollow them. Find ones that make you laugh or show you lovely places instead. Finally, pay attention to your own achievements and how you can improve. The best person you can compete with is yourself.

Let’s make positive, healthy comparisons. Instead of trying to be the best aim to be your best. This means you value your own achievements and not someone else’s. Celebrate progress instead of the final result. It doesn’t matter if someone is better or faster than you, it’s how hard you try that’s important. Set some goals and pay attention to your progress. Instead of saying “I can’t do it”, say “I can’t do it yet”.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了如何写好广告。

How to write an ad? Before you write an ad von need to know your readers. What group people are you trying to reach?

Writing an outline (提纲) can make sure you include all the important information. Imagine your school is having a fair to raise money for a new playground. Your readers: Students in our school
Questions your ad will answer:
What is the event? The Hillsdale School Fair.

Where’s the event? The Hillsdale School Gym.
When is the event? Saturday, April 13, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Words and phrases that are persuasive and get attention:

5 . Water plays an important role in keeping you healthy. This should come as no surprise. Much of your body is made up of water, after all. It keeps your body working properly. But did you know that too much water can make you die?

Water poisoning (中毒) happens when people drink too much water. This lowers the level of sodium (钠) in their blood to dangerous levels. When you have too little sodium in your body, a lot of things will go seriously wrong in your body.

Protecting yourself from water poisoning may seem easy, however, this is easier said than done. For example, when you do exercise, you may have to drink a lot of water. It is important to balance the amount (量) of water. This can help you stay healthy whenever you are exercising.

文章大意:本文主要讲述了近200个国家同意了一项关于保护世界海洋的新的联合国协议。它计划到2030年保护30%的开阔海域。

8 . After 10 years of difficult talks, nearly 200 countries agreed to a new United Nations (UN) agreement to protect the world’s oceans. The agreement has been the first of its kind in 40 years. It plans to protect 30% of the open oceans by 2030.

Oceans cover about 71% of the Earth’s surface and are home to hundreds of thousands of different kinds of animals and plants. Healthy oceans are a very important part of a healthy planet. But the oceans are in trouble. Overfishing (捕捞过度) has had a terrible effect on many kinds of fish and other animals. Pollution from ships and other places has caused serious problems. In 1982, an agreement described the “high seas (公海)”, but it did not protect them. In these areas, all countries have the right to fish, send ships, and do research. The high seas cover about two-thirds of the ocean. But now people only protect 1. 2% of the areas.

Last December, over 110 countries agreed to protect 30% of their land and ocean areas by 2030. Without an international agreement, there was no way to make this goal meaningful for the whole ocean. The new agreement now makes this feasible.

The new agreement tries to turn 30% of the high seas into protected areas by 2030. It also says that activities planned for the high seas must first be examined to see what kind of influences they might have on the ocean environment. Businesses in some countries hope to make a lot of money by getting valuable things from the bottom of the sea. Other businesses hope to find plants or animals in the ocean that could lead to new discoveries and new medicines.

Many of the disagreements were about how valuable things would be shared between rich countries and poor ones. Poor countries wanted to make sure that the valuable things would help everyone, not just people in rich countries.

A.Nearly 20 countries.B.Very few countries.

A.Awful.B.Painful.C.Possible.D.Dangerous.

5. What’s the passage mainly about?
