4 . Sitting on a chair all day in school can make anyone want to move around. So, more and more teachers are letting students have a ball. By sitting on exercise balls instead of chairs, teachers find students’ posture (姿势) and attention improve.

Dottie Pownall, a fifth-grade teacher in West Virginia, USA, has been using balls as chairs since December 2008. “The students love them,” she says. Pownall took a survey of her students. She found that 80% of the students thought sitting on the balls helped them pay more attention to what they were learning.

The teacher, Pisa Witt, felt so strongly about the use of balls as chairs, she started Witt Fitt. This company encourages the use of the balls. And the company educates not only teachers but also students on how to use them. “Our products are used in 24 states, three provinces in Canada, Puerto Rico (波多黎各) and Japan,” says Witt. “Research shows that sitting on the balls makes them sit up straighter. You can slouch (低头垂肩地坐) on a ball,” says Witt, “but it feels awful.” Because the students are moving, their blood (血液) increases. Four ways to have a good school life

Your schooldays should be some of the best and happiest days of your life. How can you get the most from them, and make sure you do not waste this excellent chance to learn?

Be active at school

Don’t say things are difficult or boring. Be interested in school life and your school subjects. Join in lots of activities. ① (hands, quickly, your, class, in, up, put). Go around the school with a big smile. If you are not working, you are wasting your time at school. Teachers cannot make everything enjoyable.

Face the problem

Do not say you will do things tomorrow. If you get behind the class, it is very difficult to get back in front. ③ You cannot finish the race if you rest all the time. Everyone fails some exams, loses some matches and has bad days. Don’t let small problems seem very big and important. Don’t forget to ask for help. You are young. No one thinks you must do everything quite well!

__________

Don’t waste time lying in bed on Saturday or Sunday morning. Go and play a sport, get together with friends in the park to relax, learn the piano, or help someone with problems. 6 . Jia Meng used to keep a diary (日记) in Chinese. But one year ago, the 14-year-old girl from Hei Longjiang began to write her diary in English, because Jia found her mother was reading her diary secretly. She changed the language because her mother can’t read English. “It’s like killing two birds with one stone.” said Jia, “My privacy (隐私) became safe and my English improves a lot.”

Jia’s mother is not the only mom who reads her child’s diary. Recently, Renmin University of China had a national survey among over 2, 3000 parents. The results show that 40% of parents read their children’s secrets. That’s why, like Jia, many teenagers try to find ways to protect(保护) their privacy.

Wu Lei, 15, of Shanxi, keeps a diary, too. But he doesn’t write in on paper. He writes online which he thinks is perfectly safe because his parents “know nothing about the Internet.”

Lu Huan, 13, of Guangdong, said her parents always secretly listened to the talk between her friends and her on the telephone in their room. To solve this problem, Lu asked her parents to buy her a mobile phone.

“Parents want to know what is going on in their children’s lives,” said Shao Xiazhen, a teenage expert in Beijing. “But sometimes they go about it the wrong way.” Shao suggested to teenagers that instead of hiding their secrets, talking to parents is a better solution. “If your parents know that you are safe, they’ll let you keep your secrets.”

9 .
The rockets take astronauts and man-made satellites into space. The satellites are used for communication, weather monitoring and research. But how do satellites stay up without falling down?
There are two opposite forces (力量) acting on the satellite. One of them is the force of gravitation (地心引力), which tries to pull the satellite towards the earth. The other force is created by the rotation (旋转) of the satellite around the earth. This force tries to take the satellite away from the earth. With these two forces, the satellite goes round and round. The gravitational pull of the earth (the force which pulls everything towards the ground) is like a rope which keeps the satellite from flying away.
Everything that goes up has to come down. It is only a matter of time before a satellite comes back to the earth. As time goes by, the satellite loses its speed, which makes the gravitational pull stronger than the force pulling it away. This makes the satellite crash (坠落) down to the earth.

A.communication
B.monitoring the weather condition
C.doing some research
D.taking pictures

A.when it flies faster
B.when its speed slows down

Some people seem to have unusual memories. Zheng Aiqiang, a "memory athlete" on TV show Super Brain, can remember 2,660 numbers in just one hour!
You would think people like him must have special brains. But according to a recent study by researchers from America and Holland, the brain structure (结构) of ordinary people and 23 of the world’s leading memory athletes shows no difference.
Good memories can be trained. New research in the magazine Neuron suggests that a person will get a super memory with just six weeks of hard training.
Researchers found that a technique (技巧) called loci, invented by the ancient Greeks, can greatly help improve memory.
By using loci, you are using your imagination to improve the brain's memory networks. You can link (关联) something you need to remember with a place that you know very well. For example, to remember a list of numbers, imagine yourself walking through your house. Each thing is linked to a number. For example, zero could be the handle on the door and five could be the painting on the wall.
In one study, some ordinary people were given 20 minutes to remember 72 nouns. At the beginning, they could only remember 26 words, but when they were taught loci, they could remember 62 words.
“Not everyone can become a memory winner. But everyone using the technique can improve his memory greatly,” said Boris Konrad, one of the researchers in the study.
请根据短文内容,完成下列任务。
1. From the recent study, we know that ordinary people and memory athletes have similar _______.
2. To memorize a list of numbers by using loci means you are using your __________to link it with a __________ you know well according to the passage.
