1 . It’s December now. It’s snowing and the weather is really cold in the north of China. You can see many children playing with snow. Some of them are making snowmen. Some are skating on the river because it’s so cold that the water in the river freezes (结冰). It’s a white world. How beautiful!

Is it winter in Australia? No. We have different seasons in a year. In Australia, it’s summer now and the weather is hot. Many people are swimming in the sea. They are having a good time. Jim and his friends are playing soccer near the beach. The sunny weather is really cool for them. They want to swim after playing soccer.

Rules in the library

Hello, boys and girls. Welcome to the school library. But you must follow some rules. First, you can’t be noisy in the library. You have to be ①________ here. Second, don’t listen ②________ music here, so you can’t bring your music players to the library. ③________, you can’t bring any food or eat anything in it. Fourth, don’t take photos in the library.

3 . Hello, everyone! I’m Frank. I’m a middle school student in No. 2 Middle School. Do you want to know my school life? Let me tell you.

I go to school from Monday to Friday. We have four classes in the morning and two in the afternoon. We do many things after class. On Monday afternoon we have sports. On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, some of us have art class. My favorite subject is art. On Wednesday and Friday afternoons, we talk to each other(互相) in English at the English Corner(英语角). On Saturdays and Sundays, I don’t go to school! 4. 我经常和朋友打篮球。

4 . Now in different places of the world, people are doing different things.

In Beijing, it’s early morning. People are sleeping.

In London, people are leaving work to go home. They are waiting for buses or trains. Some people are driving their cars. Some are having afternoon tea at home or walking to the pubs(酒吧) to have a drink.

In Moscow, it’s evening and people are having supper at home or in restaurants. Some are going to watch a ballet(芭蕾舞) . Some are drinking in the pubs.

In Los Angeles(洛杉矶) , it’s morning. People are working in their offices. Children are starting their lessons.

New York is noon now. People aren’t working but having lunch. They are eating hamburgers or hot dogs and drinking coffee or Coke. Some people are seeing friends or shopping.

5 . John Smith works in a basketball club. He gets up at 5: 30 every day. After that, he runs. At 8: 00, he eats breakfast.        

Tom White is a writer. He works at home. He gets up at 8: 00 in the morning. He usually reads books for two hours after breakfast.

Mary Green is a music teacher. She gets up at 6: 00 every morning. Then she eats breakfast. She lives at school but doesn’t live with her parents.        

Mona Black is a clerk (职员). She works at a clothes store. She usually gets up at 6: 30. After breakfast she goes to the store.

6 . When you are in England, you must be very careful (小心的) in the streets because the traffic (车辆) goes on the left. Before you cross a street, you must look to the right first and then the left.

If the traffic lights are red, the traffic must stop. Then the people on foot can cross the road. If the traffic lights are green, the traffic can go. People on foot mustn’t cross.

In the morning and in the evening when people go to or come from work, the streets are very busy. Traffic is the most dangerous then.

When you go by bus in England, you have to be careful, too. Always remember: the traffic moves on the left. Have a look first, or (否则) you will go the wrong way.

In many English cities, there are big buses with two floors. You can sit on the second floor. From there you can see the city very clearly. It’s very interesting.

7 . Today is a fine day. Mr Smith and his family are in the park now. On their right, there is a cafe. On their left, there is a big lake. There is a small hill behind the lake. Near the lake, there is a sign. It says “Don’t swim in the lake!” There is a beautiful garden in the middle of the park. There are many flowers in it. Between the lake and the garden, there are many tall trees and some small shops.

8 . Halloween（万圣节前夕）is an autumn holiday that American celebrate every year. It means “holy（神圣的）evening”, and it comes every October 31st, the evening before All Saints’ Day（万圣节）. However, it’s not really a church holiday, it is a holiday for children.

Every autumn, when the vegetables are ready to eat, children pick large orange pumpkins（南瓜）. Then they cut faces in the pumpkins and put lights inside. It looks like there is a person looking out of the pumpkin!

The children also put on strange masks（面具）and frightening clothes every Halloween. Some children paint their faces to look like monsters（怪物）. They carry boxes for UNICEF（联合国儿童基金会）. They ask for money to help poor children all around the world. Of course, every time they help UNICEF, they usually receive a treat（款待）for themselves, too.

Fire can help people in many ways. But it can also be very harmful. Fire can make water hot and house warm, give light and cook food. But fire can burn things, too. It can make trees, houses, animals and other things catch fire. If some people can’t run away from fire, it can kill them. Sometimes a big fire can burn forests and destroy many tall buildings. Today people know how to make a fire with matches（火柴）. Children sometimes like to play with them. But matches can be very dangerous. The match can burn a piece of paper and then it can burn a house. A small fire can become a big fire. Fire kills many people every year. So you must be careful with fire.
