1 . Every early morning in Southwest China’s Chongqing, there is a common scene (场景,情景) at the city’s Subway Line 4: a group of farmers shouldering vegetables for sale are busy riding on the subway to the city center.
The second part of the subway line connects Shichuan town to the city center. It has provided local farmers near the town with a wider channel (渠道,手段) for selling their produce since its opening in 2022.
The vegetables grown by the farmers, which used to be sold at low prices in the town, can now be sold at higher prices in the city.
Every morning around 6 o’clock, the entrance and exit of the Shichuan Town station of the line are crowded with special passengers. They carry baskets filled with fresh vegetables on their backs.
To make it easier for the farmers, the station which was supposed to open at 6:15, now opens five minutes earlier every day. The workers at the station also help as much as possible: helping with the baskets, guiding them to enter the station quickly and orderly and so on.
There’s also an elderly couple in their 80s, who take the subway to sell vegetables. In Chongqing, people over the age of 65 can use the subway for free. The opening of this subway line not only saves money for the elderly but also time.
According to Feng, the husband of the elderly couple, it took him more than one hour to reach the city before as he had to take several buses. Now, by taking the subway, they can get there in less than 30 minutes without any trouble. And they can sell all their vegetables in less than three hours after arriving at the market. Some netizens (网民) say the subway passengers should be prohibited (被禁止) from carrying large items (物品) such as vegetable baskets during peak hours in the mornings and evenings, as this could cause inconvenience to other passengers and potentially damage (损坏) public transportation facilities (设施).
Chongqing Rail Transit responds that passengers can carry items on the subway as long as the sum of the length, width, and height does not exceed (超过) 2 meters and the weight does not exceed 20 kilograms. If passengers find that the vegetables brought onto the trains by the farmers emit odors (散发臭味) or liquids (液体) that soil the carriage (弄脏车箱), they can report this to the subway stations, and the staff members would handle (处理) the situation promptly (立即).

2 . With a habit of drinking coffee on weekends while doing schoolwork, Wu Zibo, a 17-year-old student from Beijing No. 4 High School, wanted to order a cup of Moutai-flavored latte (茅台味拿铁). “I wonder how my father’s favorite Chinese liquor (白酒) would taste with my favorite coffee.” Wu said.
Moutai, known as the national liquor brand of China, made a coffee called “Jiangxiang Latte” with Luckin (瑞幸) Coffee. It is put into a bag with a Moutai picture and has less than 0.5 percent of 53 degrees Moutai in a cup. The two companies sold 5.42 million cups and earned 100 million yuan just on the first day after it came out, China Daily reported.
Independent food industry researcher Zhu Danpeng said the partnership was good for both brands. “Moutai and Luckin are the leading companies in the liquor and coffee field,” Zhu said. “On the one hand, Moutai becomes younger through making things together with Luckin. On the other hand, for Luckin, it has collected more older customers and become more popular.”
Many brands choose to have a partnership and make products together. However, wrong partnerships may have bad influence on the brands. For example, the coffee brand Manner and the brand Louis Vuitton (LV) asked customers to buy two books at the price of 580 yuan so that they can get a free cloth LV bag. People doubted whether the books and the bag were worth the price.
“The key to having a partnership is about how good the products are. The brands should not just care about getting the public excited.” Zhu Danpeng said.

3 . ① Sixty-eight cultural relics (文物) that were recently returned to China were warmly welcomed by Chinese people.
② The relics, which were smuggled (走私) to the United Kingdom in the past, arrived in Beijing on Oct 20. These relics include a number of fine works of art such as plates and teacups. Dating back to a time lasting from the Spring and Autumn Period to the Qing Dynasty (朝代), they come from many different provinces, including Fujian, Hebei and Guizhou.
③ Back in 1995, British police found these relies while investigating (调查) an international relic-smuggling group. After learning of the discovery, China set up a special working group to bring the items home.
④ However, a local buyer of the relics didn’t agree to return them, so British police held the relics for 25 years. But communication between the Chinese and British governments never stopped.
⑤ In January, the British police told China that the local buyer was missing and that the relics therefore had no owner. The UK offered to return the relics to China, Global Times noted.
⑥ In the history, it has not been easy to fight the crime of cultural relic smuggling, but this time it was successful. The return is a successful example of cooperation (合作) between China and the UK in fighting cultural relic smuggling under the 1970 Convention (公约) which requires its members to take action to protect relics.
⑦ Not only is the 1970 Convention helping cultural relics return to their countries, China is also taking action. Over the past 20 years, China has worked to protect and recover cultural relics. In recent years, it has become more common for people to purchase cultural relics and give them to museums for free. ③What’s more, the Power Construction Corporation of China of Guizhou also built the AI-Qasar 800-megawatt photovoltaic plant (800兆瓦光伏发电厂). As the first power plant that doesn’t use fossil fuel (化石燃料) in Qatar, it provides green electricity for the World Cup.
④In addition, vehicles (交通工具) made in China provide shuttle (摆渡车) service to stadiums of the World Cup. There are 888 new energy vehicles from Chinese company Yutong.
⑤Apart from big companies, manufacturers (制造商) from Yiwu are seeing their growing influence. About 70 percent of the World Cup’s souvenirs are made in Yiwu, from soccer balls to national flags.

Hello, welcome to Shirley’s Time! Have you ever heard of Alyssa?
Alyssa is an astronaut. She was chosen to be the first person to land on Mars (火星) by NASA in 2021 at the age of 17. She may go to Mars in 2033 and never come back to the earth. So her father is a little worried. He thinks that Mars may be a very dangerous place. Alyssa is probably going to leave the earth and never return to the earth in the future.
Alyssa expressed why she dreamed of being an astronaut in a recent interview. She said, “Well, I first wanted to become an astronaut from watching a cartoon called the Backyardigans when I was three. In the cartoon, the characters flew to Mars.” After that, the girl just kept asking for videos, books and anything she could find about space. And her parents have always given her love and support.
Alyssa has always been working hard for her dream. She went to an expensive space school to get training. Studying there isn’t always easy. It needs to pass a lot of tests like floating (漂浮) in the air. At first she felt sick in her stomach, but later she got used to it. Finally she made it to be an astronaut. From what she said, we also knew that Alyssa enjoyed speaking in public and talking to the girls who wanted to be astronauts.
