1 . Can you imagine how people on a more than 1200-meter-high mountain in Hunan get their letters and parcels? Over the past 16 years, YangZhengui, a 60-year-old man, has always been able to help people there to get them in time.

Yang is the only postman there. In order to get to the office from his home on time, which is over 30 kilometers away, he has to get up at around 5 a. m. on workdays. Before leaving, Yang sorts the parcels in his post office. As an experienced postman, Yang can complete his sorting in just about 30 minutes. He has to ride more than 70 kilometers along the mountain road for nearly three hours to complete his work.

When the parcels need to be delivered right away, he will always find a way to deliver them to the villagers, even if he goes there on foot, regardless of the bad weather. In 2007, when Yang was new, the road was not completed, so he had to deliver the parcels on foot for nearly one year. “The bags weighed about 35 to 40 kg and I had to carry them, walking over 30 km a day.” said Yang.

Before Yang started his job, his elder brother and father had also been postmen working there since the late 1990s. Together with Yang, his father and brother have provided delivery services there for over 20 years.

So far, Yang has traveled more than 40,000 kilometers and worn out four motorcycles. Although the trips were hard. Yang said he got such a strong feeling of satisfaction when he saw the smiling faces of the villagers after they received their parcels.

2 . Five young girl students at Shanghai Theatre Academy have become famous online by singing pop songs to the tunes (曲调) of Beijing Opera.

Li Wei, a young man, likes to watch the students’ videos. He said, “Thanks to them, I have got a better understanding of my parents’ deep love for Beijing Opera.”

The students, mainly roommates from Room 416 at the academy, are known on the Internet as the “416 girls”. They have put their singing on short-video platforms (平台) since 2019.

Over the past three years, the students have gradually won a large number of fans. In one of their videos, which has been watched more than 50 million times and received 2.5 million “likes”, they sing the pop song Tan Chuang to a Beijing Opera tune.

Young people such as the “416 girls” have increased audience (观众) numbers for Beijing Opera, which has a history of more than 200 years.

Guo Jing, 27, a primary school teacher, has about 2.5 million followers on the Douyin short-video platform. In her videos, she performs ancient songs while dancing to Beijing Opera movements, or discusses interesting stories about the art form.

“I want to be one of the best art vloggers, and I see it as m y task to shorten the distance between art and life,” Guo said.

Pan Yan, a leader of the China Performance Industry Association, said, “Beijing Opera has a special charm (魅力) that people can sense without having to understand it. Audience experience the art form’s beauty by watching short videos, and they also spread news and knowledge about Beijing Opera after watching videos.”

5 . When we think of the most respected awards in the world, the Nobel Prize（诺贝尔奖）must be on the list.

Created by Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel in 1895, the prize recognizes achievements in sciences and the people behind them. Every year in October, the announcement of winners catches the world’s attention.

Wednesday’s event marked the third time Wang had taken part in a space lesson. In June 2013, she gave the nation’s first space lesson to over 60 million Chinese students in Shenzhou X. It made China the second country, following the United States, to have given a lesson to schoolchildren from space.

In early December, Wang gave the country’s second space lesson from the Tiangong station. The astronauts showed viewers how they lived and worked inside the space station.

Mike, when did you start cooking?

When I was four, I became interested in cooking. I started helping my mum in the kitchen when I was five. At the age of six, I could make vegetable salad. One year later, I could make a fruit pie all by myself.
